The Japanese sales charts haven't made for especially interesting reading in weeks - at least as far as PlayStation goes. Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch last month, the PlayStation 4 has been pushed out of focus due to a lack of notable software releases. Naturally, this also means that hardware figures are in a gradual decline, with Sony's home console dropping below 20,000 units over the last fortnight or so.
The only game worth even a brief mention is NieR: Automata, which has now broken 300,000 copies in Japan and remains in the top five. Hopefully things pick up soon, eh?

Seems the Switch has taken some steam out of PS4/Vita sales. Or is just lack of software?
@Dodoo It'll be a bit of both. I imagine Switch sales will level out over the next few months and the PS4 will gain some ground again once it gets new games.
Both PS4 and Switch have some big titles in the next months.. Dragon Quest and Splatoon are as big as a game can get these days in Japan.
I was like - no new games?!?!? And then I remembered Persona came out early in Japan.
@Dodoo Unlikely to be connected. PS4 is still up year-over-year weekly, it's just that this is a slow period — all platforms except Switch are down, after all.
I imagine Switch will slow down before long. At least, until Splatoon 2 releases.
Poor Wii U: even the PS3 is still outselling it!
PS4 is still performing decently in Japan, it seems.
PS4 is still kicking it, it's just because a new system entered the scene with Zelda. Switch will fade out for a while (at least go down a bit) after Mario Kart 8 arrives. Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey are the only other ones coming for it that are big names...3DS doesn't have a whole lot coming out for it (actually neither does PS4). Summer is also coming, which means the sales will go down even more, but the hype for switch is what's killing it, but, the sales will be up to Nintendo for that one (and they seem to struggle with 3rd parties, and will probably screw it up again...just give it a year or 2). Other than that, when PS4 puts the exclusives out, the sales will climb again...it's still dominating, it just has a new challenger...Switch.
It's better then the Xbox One.
162 ...ouch.
Well atleast SAO x Accel World wasn't listed again at the Top 20. Seriously, while most SAO games like Lost Song and Realization seems to have sold decently in Japan during their releases, SAOxAccel World seems to have died off. Then again, the game only got a 30 famitsu compared to the other SAO games' 32 so maybe that's the reason.
I'm picking up my PS4 Pro today.
It's not rally related to this, I just wanted to mention it.
It'd be nice to see the Switch and PS4 both settle in at least the 40K to 50K range after they get out of the slow periods, actually since Switch is a newer system I'd like to see it closer to at least 70K but yeah, the Japanese charts make more for depressing reading than anything else. I still worry we're not too many years away from Japanese devs going 95% mobile gaming with only a big title like RE or Final Fantasy once every 4 or 5 years.
On the positive side, Horizon has proved to be a big win for Sony. Over 200K in Japan is very impressive for a new Western IP.
@Dodoo Nope. Switch is doing quite badly on its own. By this time after its launch, Wii had already sold over 1.2 million systems! 3DS had sold close to 900,000 systems... and that got a discount 4 months in!
Nintendo must be hoping for a turnaround, because currently Switch is selling even worse than Wii U did after its launch!
People need to remember that Switch is a new system, and new systems sell for some time after launch. But Switch numbers are currently worse than what Wii, 3DS and Wii U did after launch.
PS4 is having a dry spell, but it still has 8 games in top 20, more than any other system. This is the calm before the June-July storm.
@Mahe I don't think Switch is doing that badly, in fact the general consensus is that it's selling better than most analysts and even Nintendo expected...

@Enuo
Enjoy. Nothing like a new console to put a spring in your step.
@Dodoo The initial Nintendo estimates were super low. Wii U shipped 3.06 million in just a little over a month when it was launched. See how that went?
Remember, the original estimates had Switch selling much less than Wii U. Now it's still selling less than Wii U. That's not good.
