It's no secret that Gran Turismo, Sony's flagship racing series, has long suffered from poor audio work. The roaring engines found in similar speed-'em-ups usually make Gran Turismo's cars sound like toys rather than beastly automobiles - but developer Polyphony Digital may have finally turned things around with Gran Turismo Sport, says Eurogamer.
Taking the racer out for a spin at a PS4 Pro event, the publication describes the audio work as "a big improvement over what's gone before in the series". Eurogamer writes that the sound quality changes as you switch views, with the cockpit perspective giving way to a "overpowering" transmission whine. In other words, it sounds a lot more like you're sitting in a real car.
Good news for all you petrol heads, then, but are you looking forward to seeing how Sport shapes up next year? Screech into the comments section below.

I love a good transmission whine... those straight cut gears!
Confirmed. It's miles better.
Some of those shots look stunning I really hope they can get back to when the series was great.

That screenshot at the top of the article, if that's in-game then wow it's hard to tell if it's a real life photo or from the game itself.
@wiiware I wonder if the Scorpio can make games that pretty
I expected this, Polyphony raided Turn 10's sound team IIRC.
@ferrarimanf355 they could of raided the turn 10 graphics team and got better sound.
Gran Turismo, the real deaf persons driving simulator.
You lot are probably too young but I remember going to the midnight launch at Game of GT 3 on the PS2. Happy memories.
@themcnoisy True.
@GBMatthew I remember going to the launch event of stunt car racer in John Menzies for the Commodore 64. Now that was the best racing game back then! (I was 6 or 7 at the time) I actually think the legend @BAMozzy was at the launch of the very first car ever invented lol.
A little disappointed to learn that GT Sport doesn't fully support VR.
@MaccaMUFC I am not sure what you mean. The Scorpio will most definitely be capable of higher quality rendering than the Pro.
Because the Scorpio is releasing a year after the Pro, we have what could very well end up being a staggered release cycle. It would mean that it doesn't matter what console is the most powerful 'now' because a year or so later, the competition will have their, even more powerful, console release. So Scorpio is more powerful than the PS4 Pro, and the PS4 Pro II is more powerful than the Scorpio, but the Scorpio II is more powerful than the PS4 Pro II, and so on. At some point a new console cycle may begin but will most likely be more of a naming convention (i.e. PS4 Pro III is called PS5) than an actual new console.
It doesn't matter to me which is more powerful (though I do like it when my "team" is on the "better" side) because my support of Playstation and Sony rather than Xbox and Microsoft is not dependent on the amount of eye candy the machines can push out, and I think a lot of people (in both camps) feel the same way.
@thedevilsjester The Scorpio comment was just a little joke directed at wiiware because he was complaining that I always mentioned the Scorpio in every PS4 Pro article.
If Sony and Microsoft are going to start bringing out upgraded consoles mid cycle then they should be more transparent about it. I'm all for a more powerful console but I bet many people wouldn't be happy that they feel like their day one console is now amateurish when a Pro II/PS5.5 eventually comes along a few years later.
@MaccaMUFC Even they may not know what they plan yet. Is the Pro going to push Sony ahead even further? Will the Scorpio give Microsoft enough of an edge to close the sales gap? Will the classic PS4 still sell well with the Pro out? They cant answer the question about future plans until they know how the market is going to shake out. Its stupid to say "Oh no, the DS is not the successor to the GBA, there will be another Gameboy too" only to change course when they see sales numbers. Im not bitter...not at all...
@MaccaMUFC I feel the only reason for the mid cycle upgrade is VR.
