Gamers would never overreact, would they? Gran Turismo Sport has been rubbished in some online circles following its reveal last week, with many suggesting that the PlayStation 4 exclusive barely improves upon Gran Turismo 6. That's not strictly true, however, as these comparison videos show that, visually at least, the upcoming racing simulation is lightyears ahead of its last-gen alter-ego.
In fact, following a fairly knee-jerk initial reaction, there's been a bit more positivity surrounding the release over the past few days. Team VVV, for example, uploaded a video demonstrating the subtle but noticeable improvements in the game's audio β an enhancement which is long overdue. There's still a lingering sentiment that Polyphony Digital should be iterating faster than it is β but at least the series is progressing in key areas after all.

I had no idea the game was so much different from GT6, I was one of those that were saying it looks like GT6.5 or something....BUT, it's still not the most photorealistic racer out there. I think Driveclub and Project Cars are still beating it, at least at this point. Maybe when it releases in November the game looks better or maybe GT7 improves even more, but right now it's not the prettiest out there. That's not to say that the game looks bad by any means, I think it looks beautiful. Especially the trees in the Ring, they finally have proper geometry hah.
Even though it looks a lot better than I first thought, it is still FAR from the competitors in terms of visual flare, and of course, realism in sound design.
While it's certainly not beyond criticism, y'all got to remember that DriveClub is 30FPS. That makes a massive difference.
But yeah, Polyphony Digital used to always set the benchmark β good enough isn't good enough.
60fps beats 30fps hands down. No matter how nice it looks, it all falls apart when you start moving and look around at 30. 60 stays smooth and solid, the illusion is not broken like it is at 30. Same as playing 30 shooters and then jumping into Doom or MGS. Just personal I guess but I'll be the happiest when I never have to see 30fps again. Hopefully Neo will put that on the table for us.
Think they had to downgrade it to support VR?
@Vix Unlikely because they're aiming for 60FPS anyway.
Maybe not downgrade, but at least restrict themselves to keep that 60 frame lock?
the trailer looked nice, but it looked like a ps2 game in the stream
It doesn't look bad by any means, and the more frames the better, but I feel they could have done so much more with it, while keeping the frame lock at the same time.
I really dont take much notice of the Internet, most people nower days needs glasses.
There's always knee-jerk initial reaction for nearly every ps4 exclusive games, just ignored it and wait for the review on the site you trusted.
Looks much improved over GT6 but I think we've been spoilt by the beauty of Driveclub in the looks department...
I've always wondered though how much the actual racing physics (in terms of what makes gt more of a racing sim than forza) takes away from the ability to give gt more eye candy. I've personally since after a spec thought forza does better in the presentation aspect, while gt feels like a much better sim while forzas steering always felt a bit like driving a car in mud. I just wonder how much if any at all does poly sacrifice due to the absurd amount of numbers being crunched behind the scenes to make gt feel like a more true driver.
I wonder if they'll apply the really fun and also "realistic" sim approach of penalising you for cutting a corner slightly or bumping another car by cutting your vehicles speed for a few seconds.
While the best graphics and sound in the world help it's not everything.
Which should look better? I think some parts of sport look better than 6 and vice versa. Still don't think it looks 'that' impressive compared to other racers I have seen...
Oops, yeah that actually looks pretty good after all
@get2sammyb I guess I'll appreciate it when I slap that Playstation VR helmet on.
Looks pretty great! I can't wait!
Those lighting effects or whatever there called are amazing.
@wiiware
People can only react to what is shown though, and the reveal of GT Sport was uninspiring. I'm still not sold. It's been a long time since GT was THE racing game to have.
When all is said and done, I think this is a greater demonstration on how powerful the PS3 really was when properly utilized. Gran Turismo 5 and 6 both look amazing, even when compared to more modern games. I think Gran Turismo Sport looks great. The shadows appear pretty low res and the foliage could use a bit more love, but otherwise it looks fantastic.
DriveClub certainly looks amazing, but often times it's the weather and night racing that is shown off, not the day racing. I'm curious to see what PD has to offer in terms of weather.
looks great
