While the PlayStation 4 may be smashing sales records in most parts of the world, Sony needs all of the help that it can get to remain competitive in Japan. As such, it’s decided to roll out the system’s ridiculous Metal Slime hardware SKU this December in the East – a couple of months before its associated game Dragon Quest: Heroes arrives.
The silver system will be available from 11th December for ¥49,980 ($462), and will come with a themed DualShock 4 controller, a 15-day PlayStation Plus pass, a code to download a related theme, and access to the abovementioned game 24 hours before anyone else. For those out of the loop, the title’s due out officially on 26th February.
Oh, and you also get that goofy bit of goo that plugs into one of your console’s USB ports and nestles on the top of the device. Still, if you think that that’s wacky, check out the promotional trailer below, which sees a man forging one of the formats in an old-school furnace. They certainly do things differently overseas, huh?

I hope DQ heroes sell like hotcakes! If so we maybe get the next entry of the main DQ games! Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies was one of my favorite games off all time ( Nintendo DS)
Never thought a silver PS4 would look so beautiful.
I actually like this...I just don't get why the metal slime character thingamy needs to plug into a USB port, though? Is it just to keep it in place, or does it actually do anything?
@get2sammyB - "Sony needs all of the help that it can get to remain competitive in Japan."
Competitive in Japan w/ what exactly, X1 sells about 3 consoles a week in Japan. Go ahead, say it, I dare you [If having a sense of humour means being "that guy", then yeah, I'm that guy.]
I like the silver console and the silver slime on top but it will never release in the west. Really looking forward to the game if the PS3 version makes its way west next year, Hyrule Warriors is a blast.
Awful, I love it. Metal slime edition is about all I understood. I was hoping to see them dip a big glowing block and pull out a ps4 though.
@SuperKMx probably just to hold it in place, I think also someone apparently mentioned keeping the USB ports dust free, not that I've ever had that problem @sinalefa it isn't beautiful, it makes the ps4 look like an old VCR
@rjejr : yeah , we've already establiished the fact that you're genuinely hilarious .
