The best thing about Rockstar – aside from its award winning games – is the manner in which it goes about announcing them. While other publishers pre-empt reporters with Twitter teasers and cryptic press releases, the Grand Theft Auto V developer prefers to nonchalantly drop bombs – usually when we expect them the least.
We assumed that this morning’s rumours would be the last that we’d hear about the next-gen re-release of the firm’s sandbox smash for some time, but the organisation clearly felt that it should probably attach a date to the holiday game. It will deploy on 18th November globally for the PlayStation 4, and will come with a whole raft of improvements.
Many of those were detailed earlier today, but in case you missed the memo, they include a new foliage system, denser traffic, additional wildlife, and much, much more. The title will also boast “increased draw distances” and will run at a “higher resolution”, though there’s no word on any enhancements to the original’s inconsistent frame rate.
Nevertheless, the tweaks aren’t strictly cosmetic, as the port will also come with 100 new songs and tons of fresh commentary from the release’s radio DJs. The player count in Grand Theft Auto Online will also be bumped up to 30, making your online battles even more epic than ever before. Pre-order the port, and you’ll get $1,000,000 in-game cash for free.
There’s a new trailer embedded below, which we have to say looks absolutely stunning. Los Santos always felt scarily alive on the PlayStation 3, but it appears even more impressive on the next-gen machine. Are you excited by what you’ve seen? Will you be double-dipping when this updated version drops? Show your allegiance to Kraff in the comments section below.

What makes it truly worth a repurchase is what I'm thinking.
@Jazzer94 Updated the article.
@Jazzer94 Cats are a thing.
But is the world 36x bigger?
Yet another game - along w/ TLoU - that I can put on my list for a future PS4 purchase.
Is it just me or is that trailer a bit misleading about the gmaeplay? Looks like all happy happy joy joy, but isn't this the game that almost got Damo to stop gaming?
@rjejr The campaign's a bit like that to be honest. It ranges from utterly ridiculous, to pointed satire, to incredibly dark.
@get2sammyb Is that going to truly make the game better, I'd rather they improved the controls and driving physics more.
Edit: 100 new songs sounds cool but surely that could have been free dlc.
@rjejr GTA 5 bounces between extremes quite often, at points I felt a tad awkward/uncomfortable others I was laughing my head off.
@Jazzer94 I actually agree with you, the controls are absolutely atrocious.
Article update, screenshots added.
I do plan on getting it again. Though after seeing the trailer, I'm kinda wondering why they didn't just develop the game for the ps4 in the first place
All these new Additions and so called improvements mean absolutely nothing if the framerate isn't a solid 60fps.
All developers should be looking at Metro Redux on how to port a game to the new consoles.
Controls have always been awful on GTA games. Im sure they aren't happy until they've made a control system that just seems like it would be at home on the master system
@Jazzer94 @get2sammyb - "utterly ridiculous, to pointed satire, to incredibly dark."
Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad
Guess I'm glad I never got around to playing this, those screen shots are so purty.
@owenstodstill I don't think it'll be 60FPS. I'm personally hoping for a sturdy 30FPS.
I'll be playing dragon age inquisition. This is bargain bucket for me, as and when.
I skipped it on PS3, can't wait for it on PS4.
@Clamedeus SAME
I will be double dipping I hadn't spent enough time on the ps3 version and I lost my save so makes sense to play it again on ps4
I'm moving at the end of October so money's gonna be tight for a little while, far cry 4 will be my game of November and I'll pick up GTA 5 cheaper further down the line
As a GTA V owner for ps3, rockstar disappointed heavily with online. It was a pretty bad experience for about a whole month or 2, I'm sure you early adopters remember!
The icing on the cake was the DLC, it came slow and few. Then the amount of people hacking the game and finally "Heist". I waited months and it never came though they kept mentioning it. I would only be buying this if it was a 10$ upgrade just to feel like i haven't been let down. (rant over)
This indeed looks gorgeous. But still, GTA games tend to bore me about a third or so into the campaign. The worlds are all wonderfully crafted for their respective time, but the gameplay itself tends to get boring and repetitive for me. It's basically the same since GTA 3.
Still, I will give V a try for sure, even if it's just for soaking in the world...but not at launch, most probably.
@get2sammyb Really? I know everyone hates tapping X to run, but I felt GTA V's controls were fine.
It's the Euphoria movement engine that's the problem. The way you control the character is fine, it's the engine behind the movements that feels sluggish and heavy.
I think I'll hold out for the Wii U version. I can only imagine how the Wii U GamePad could make the experience even better.
If anybody's ever looking for a perfect example of sarcasm, there you have it ^^
Its the Online i'm jumping straight into, hopefully Rockstar have from their mistakes.
Cannt wait to play this on psvita by remote play gta v in the palm of my hand is the closes we are gonna get for a vita gta game
Will be picking this one up. Can't wait to visit Los Santos again.
Far Cry 4 and Little Big Planet 3 delays incoming.
@rjejr @get2sammyb
I guess there were some 'dark' moments but for the most part the campaign was too stupidly over the top to be considered that bad.
My PS3 fried before I could play it, so this is a must have for me.
