Any thoughts on this? I just played the demo - looks like a day one for me, ticks all the boxes.

I do wonder how long the game will be, though.. Im hoping not 4-5 hours, and more like 8-10 as a minimum.

Pretty late to the party but better late than never. I just played the demo on PS4 and the game is so good. The gameplay is everything you could ever want in an action game - deep close combat system as well as shooting mechanics and the different camera perspectives make the game feel more refreshing as you progress through the levels. I'm usually not a huge fan of Platinum Games but I feel like they nailed it with this one.

PlayStation's Youtube channel also released some open world gameplay a couple of weeks ago:

The world really looks great and I'm interested to see more of what kinds of side quests you will be doing in the game. Also, the dynamic between 2B and 9S is really interesting. From the chunks I've seen of the game, it didn't seem like the characters would be talking or interacting at all, because of them being androids. Glad I was wrong though.

I'm leaning more and more towards buying this at launch because it's open world and according to the above article it seems like this game will indeed have lots of content so it sounds like it's going to be well worth the launch price.

@KratosMD The demo is very good isn't it, I've got this on preorder. I don't expect the game to be mindblowing but it ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Looks like a really fun game and Platinum are the masters of the action game so it should be good, my only worry is the open world is going to be too big and empty full of nothing to do.

@Bread-Not-Toast From the above video, it really seems like the main point of the open world is to complete the side quests that you'll be getting and to get to different areas in order to progress with the story. There'll be secrets to find and enemies to fight as well however, but so far it does seem to be the case that there won't be much going on in the open world, sadly.

@kyleforrester87 Out of curiosity, which edition of the game did you pre-order? I saw at my online retailer that there are two editions at the same price, one with a steelbox and one as a "day one edition". Looking closer at the steelbox version, that one seemed to have a paper sleeve on it which I really despise on game cases as they can get easily ruined. I feel like the best one for me would have to be the standard day one edition.

@KratosMD I just went for the standard day one edition from Amazon.. I'm assuming it just comes in a normal box. To be honest I don't like steelbooks, I prefer my games to come in the normal cases

Just played the demo; not normally I game I would go for but it was so slick and fun I might be tempted.

Just pre-ordered the Day One Edition of the game! I've been watching so much gameplay lately that I actually went and played through the demo again (which is something I literally never do for demos) and even played through it on Hard difficulty! This game draws you in like crazy, the gameplay is so addicting, I just had to pre-order it now, lol.

Also looked up information about the Day One Edition and supposedly it comes with a reversible box-cover with the same art that is on the steelbook version, which is great. Also, it comes with some DLC skins for your little robot buddy and I didn't notice this until now but there is literally a skin where your robot will look like a PS1! I'm definitely going to use that one throughout the game.

I think the statue looks pretty cool, unfortunately for me it's a Square Enix Store exclusive.

I especially like the steel book art by Akihiko Yoshida and I read that you can get just the steel book version in UK?

@WanderingBullet I saw that you can get both versions in UK. Also, the steel bok art cover comes with the Day One Edition as a reversible box cover, so you'll get it no matter which version you buy.

@KratosMD I don't live in the UK but sometimes I do order stuff from Amazon.com if its not too expensive. NA doesn't have Day One Edition unfortunately. EU tends to get better limited/special/collectors editions.

Anyways, I can find the artwork online, it's the steel book that I really want. lol

It's NieR: Automata week! So are you guys ready to tear yourselves away from Horizon and Zelda this Friday (Or Tuesday if you live in North America) to play this game? I'm actually more excited to play this than I was for Horizon. I just hope they iron out the supposed frame rate issues on day one because I can definitely see myself playing this and Horizon the next couple of weeks.

Also, I'm guessing that since the game comes out tomorrow for North America that reviews should start showing up today. It's going to be interesting to see what everyone will give the game. As of right now, it sits at 94 on Metacritic based on some reviews of the Japanese version I'm guessing.

@KratosMD No! And yes, bring it on. I don't know how I will play both these games, I like HZD a lot more than I thought I would so it will be difficult to tear myself away from it, and like you I was more hyped for Nier. I've even preordered the t-shirt edition.

@finalstan I didn't know there was another edition for the game. Just looked it up, the T-shirt looks really dope! I'm guessing the head is based off an enemy in the game?

The thing is both these games are so long, but NieR feels more like a game you can pick up and play and instantly feel satisfied after playing 20-30 minutes. It takes way longer than that for me to feel satisfied when I play HZD, lol.

KratosMD

@KratosMD I know what you mean and I also think Nier will be more suited to shorter bursts of play. That said... HZD <3

The PushSquare review is out people. Seems like a quirky little title that you have to play through 3 times to get the most of. I think this will sit on my shelf as I carry on with HZD until they release a performance patch. I wasn't too bothered with the performance video on PS4 Pro, looked good to me, but I take any excuse to hold off playing for now.
