Topic: Need for speed rivals is dirt cheap - but is it any good?

I've just noticed NFS Rivals is the deal of the week. I was a huge fan of NFS Hot Pursuit by criterion (RIP) is this similar? Can anyone recommend the game?

If it's the one that came out at the launch of PS4 that needs online, neither myself or my son enjoyed. Less than a tenner (i.e. 9.99), go for it, more than that is up to you. But it wasn't for us.

@Drawfull: Yeah £7.50 for the complete edition. I bought it. I'm fed up of driveclub so maybe this will scratch the driving itch.

Let me know if its any good, fancy it myself at that price.

Not really. For that price it might be worth it. But it's just another open world racing game with an appalling story attached to it. Bonus points for the hideous soundtrack, too.

@johncalmc: I haven't played an open world racer since Burnout paradise which was sublime. I dont think BP had or needed a story, so yeah that would be a worry.

Its pretty much 2012 Most Wanted set in the countryside, better than that reboot last year and well worth it for the price.

@kyleforrester87: I would say to buy it if you need a racing game, which to be fair I did. Its similar to nfs hot pursuit from 4/5 years ago but less polished, the screen noise and pop in are annoying issues and the cops annihilate you in the open world and there's a lot less room for error. The open world is a miss step, the hot pursuit model was way better - you only use the open world to get to the hideaway areas after completing a mission or level which is pointless and you lose all your accumulated dosh if you wipe out, the levels should end when you complete a race. Its still fun to be fair and its a nice change of pace to hardcore driveclub dlc trophy chasing, its a step down graphically but well worth the sale price. Burnout paradise and hot pursuit are both better games so if you haven't given them a go do that instead.

@Drawfull: You can turn the gameplay settings to one of four options. Public, private, friends only or single player. Im gonna try the single player option tomorrow and see if you can play completely offline, there's too many times to compete over they all become redundant and even if you finish high up there's no sense of achievement in that respect, as you know no one was trying to beat your time.

@themcnoisy: Didn't know that, not played it since its launch. Might give it its gigs on the hard drive and have a look. Thanks
