Xillia is one of my favorites in the series! And Xillia 2, sucks to not have them both in one package, but $40 is also pretty damn cheap, so I guess it kind of justifies having just the first game (though I'm going to need to find all those cats soon!)
Also looking forward to Legendia's remake, whenever that comes along (I feel like that'll benefit most from a lot of QOL stuff and encounter changes)
Gotta make a poll for the spinoffs now (where P3 Dancing is objectively the best one, obviously)!
For this one though, I went with Innocent Sin PSP. I found the gameplay itself a bit antiquated for my liking (it was really the load times before and after every single random encounter that tested my patience a bit too much), but I love that opening!
Yea sounds way too pissed off and angry, none of the underlying warmth I get from Kuroda. Darryl Kurylo sounds solid (I still prefer Kuroda), but he does sound like the same character in tone and manner. Yea sounds like he's trying to voice a completely different character. If Yea's voice was my first intro to Kiryu, I'd assume he's a mean jerk, not the type of sweet guy who plays pocket car racing and claw machines while buying p0rno mags for children out of vending machines guarded by gossiping housewives. Kurylo I could see running a cabaret club, Yea's sounds like too much of a jerk with his take.
Really wish there might be an option to put just Kiryu in Japanese cus Kaiji Tang and everyone else in the Y7 cast is excellent and I want to hear them.
I find it a little hard to hold "lack of originality" against it, I mean, the Kickstarter literally stated it was an SotC clone, it was why I backed it. And I honestly can't think of too many other SotC clones either, it's not like GTA or Smash Bros clones where they're a dime a dozen. At least they cloned something that doesn't already have ten thousand clones
As for me, I've been playing it on PS4 standard, and while I have seen getting some texture pops, I don't think I've run into many outright "glitches", if any, and I have yet to get completely stuck somewhere in the environment geometry either.
I do, however, wish the checkpoint system could be a bit more generous at times. If you die in the middle of a boss, you do have to start it again, but sometimes, you'll also have to redo the puzzle that let you get to the boss, I think it could've been a bit nicer on that front.
Also, this could be a plus or a negative, depending on your view, but I've found I was able to get to the first 4 bosses with barely touching the survival stuff or side stuff. Great if you just want to run to the bosses, but I also feel like I'm missing out on stuff. Since a lot of stuff is hidden in caves, I could definitely argue that the caves shouldn't just look like a black shadow on the cliff side, maybe an otherworldy subtle glow might've helped them stand out a bit more. Think about Breath of the Wild, you could see the shrines at a distance and couldn't mistake them for anything else ever.
@skxnkwxlkr I do not play on PS5, because I cannot find a PS5 to buy (and I refuse to play scalper prices). I'm playing on PS4 standard, and I'll admit, a few texture pops have happened, but that also happened to me all the time while playing Psychonauts 2.
Also, while I did back the Kickstarter, I didn't play any of the beta versions and I honestly mostly forgot about it, just checking occasionally to make sure it wasn't vaporware. I didn't even know there was BotW survival until I played the game yesterday
@skxnkwxlkr I'll admit, I'm not super far into the game yet, so I haven't done too much with the survival stuff. If you're here for the Shadow bosses though, I think the game has you covered pretty damn well. But I do appreciate the option of making the survival parts easier for people who don't want the cold or freezing water to outright kill them
I played some earlier, I'm quite enjoying it so far. While Shadow of the Colossus is obvious inspiration, I would say Breath of the Wild is strongly in its DNA too (and not just because you get a glider right away). Partly with some of the resource gathering, but also with making the open world interesting to traverse with clear landmarks. Shadow of the Colossus had way too much empty space of nothing (don't get me wrong, I love Shadow, but some aspects have aged a bit these days), but I haven't encountered that yet here. Of course, with no mode of horse transport, this world isn't as needlessly vast, so I didn't feel like it took forever to get to my destination either. But it does break up Shadow's issue with going from point A to point B with nothing interesting (gameplay wise) in between.
Fortunately, it also knew what not to take from Shadow, so while the bosses are clearly Shadow, the controls on this are WAY better (especially the grip meter). I haven't encountered any major glitches yet, a few visual things off in hidden areas, but I do notice I tend to bounce off bosses like they're made of rubber.
I also quite appreciate the snowy atmosphere, while other games (Breath of the Wild, God of War) have their snow areas, I don't think I've seen the whole thing be snow. Which is fine by me, it feels cold just looking at it. I'm also glad the game can make it so cold and water won't kill you (some of us just want to unwind after work here and don't want to put up with that).
So yeah, looking forward to more over the weekend. Also, does anyone know what language the Gods spoke in this? Is it made up, or based on a real language?
I loved the series through Xillia, but Zestiria was so boring. I'm not a fan of how it and Berseria felt way too button mashy. I played Arise's demo, still felt button mashy to me (though adding a regular attack helps it). Maybe if it gets really cheap down the line, I might consider retrying it (though it looks like you can remap the buttons, which would probably make the game playable at that point for me)

Re: Reaction: PS5 Price Hike a Sobering Sign of the Times
Damn, I still can't find one in stock and now, if I try to get one via a scalper, it'll cost even MORE than it already does from them?
Eh, God of War is coming out on PS4 too.
Re: Best Platformers on PS5
I predict the list will have to update to add Klonoa, once that comes out (unless re-releases are off the table)
Re: Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series Remasters the PlayStation Platformers for PS5, PS4
Highlight of the Direct for me! Can't wait to buy it! And one for my niece! And everyone should get it because I want a Klonoa 3 already!!!
