Re: Halo Confirmed for PS5, Remake of First Game Out in 2026

@Veritas7Ax

Theres is a video online of somebody who was allowed to play it hands on - and it shows him using the standard assault rifle , and it uses a similar zoomed in view with left trigger to Halo Infiinite, rather than full ADS.
I didn't see if this is applied to all non-scoped weapons eg. needler, plasma pistol etc like in Infinite, or not.
Also mentions improvements in helping you find the way to the next objective and not get lost/go in circlles, but didn't show any details of how this is done.

Re: Mafia: The Old Country (PS5) - Historical Crime Story Runs Out of Ammo

I managed to play about 4 hours before I got bored and put it on my trade-in pile.
The bits where it actually lets you play the game are ok (not great, not terrible - though insta-fail stealth is just bad) but so many long dull sections are just walking simulator - hold the thumbstick forward to slowly walk while somebody talks at you, telling a pretty flat unispired story.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last Of Us (HBO) Season 2 Episode 6 - Robbing the Story of Its Genius

soyabean135876

@Kienda that would probably depend on whether somebody is criticising it because they don't like the writing, directing, acting etc., or whether they are being an immature incel and criticising it for happening to feature characters and storylined that include sexual orientations & gender identities different to their own.

Like the difference between people who criticise Dr Who for its often terrible writing lately, and the idiots criticising it for having a non-white gay actor in the lead role.

It's not rocket science.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds' Campaign Has an Impressive 73% Completion Rate on PS5

soyabean135876

@dardel
I'm playing in performance mode on base PS5 and I'd say it's absoulutely fine.
Close enough to a consistent 60fps to feel smooth, and the image quality is acceptable enough to not be distracting.

If the beta had never happened, I think the final release has decent enough perfomance that nobody would have made any fuss about performance on base PS5 when it came out like this. It was only the beta having such terrible perfomance that I think started the whole conversation abouty performance being terrible.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Monster Hunter Wilds?

soyabean135876

Played a few hours on base PS5.
Not enough to get a feel of the game, but I can at least confirm that the performance mode runs a lot better than the terrible beta performance.

Not great by a long shot, but does a passable job of staying at mostly 60fps and image quality not high, but bearable.

Re: Hands On: Monster Hunter Wilds Performance Certainly Isn't Perfect on PS5, PS5 Pro

soyabean135876

Pre-ordering it - but I do have a bad feeling about this one.
I can't cope with less than 60FPS in actions games - so I'll be putting up with the very low-res blurry version of it, unless I ever decide it's worth upgrading to a PS5 Pro one day.

The beta was terrible performance-wise - very low quality image, and even then didn't feel like it was hitting 60fps at all while I was playing it.

The perfomance reviews suggest it's mostly hitting 60fps in performance mode in the final release - I just hope they didn't achieve this by downgrading the visuals even more than the already low quality visuals in the beta.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Beta Will Get an Extra 24 Hours on PS5 After PSN Outage

soyabean135876

I tried both betas on PS5, both times gave up within 15 minutes due to the terrible perfomance (perfomance mode seems to have a terrible frame rate rarely getting anywhere close to 60fps, and the image looks appallingly blurred and filled with jaggies) - maybe there's a great game under there to be enjoyed on a future console or if it gets drastically optimised later, but for me, I'd rather play Rise or World with their non-headache/eye-strain inducing framerate/resoltuion, than suffer such awful perfomance just to have more foliage/weather/draw density/creatures onscreen/whatever is making it run so badly at the moment.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Failed Because It Wasn't Live Service, EA CEO Seems to Suggest

soyabean135876

Maybe 20 hour in, and am struggling to care about the story the characters or the gameplay.
The slightly cartoony aesetheic just seems a huge mistake, makine it feel like a kid's spin-off from a relatively hardcore RPG series.

I'm 100% woke and DEI and am glad games are more inclusive now - but this one just does it all in a badly written way, along with most of the character interactions through the whole game - it feels like watching a childs attempt to write "how adults talk and behave" or something - can't put my finger on it, but no character and no interaction ever seems to feel authentic.

Pity, the core gameplay starts out fun - but I feel like I've seen pretty much everything the combat had to offer already, and all thats' left is the well-meaning but wooden writing and dull story set in an unattractive cartoony art style.

Re: Rumour: Gears of War to Make PS5 Debut with Full Crossplay in Trilogy Collection

soyabean135876

Never liked 3, but a decent remake/remaster of the campaign from 2 would be amazing to play again.
Fantastic gameplay, gunplay, level design, world-bulding - just a pity about the awful dudebro dialogue and characters - first time around I had to mute the dialgoue and put subtitles on instead.

Having the actual dialogue/voice acting on is like being constatly hit over the head with a 13 year old boy's idea of what gritty scifi is like.

Re: Horizon MMO May Have Survived NCSOFT's Cull After All

soyabean135876

The update has just rendered most of the comments on this topic confusing.

I'm not a fan of GAAS, in general, but Horizon and The Last Of Us were the only 2 announced/rumoured that I actually thought might have a chance at turning out any good.

I was picturing sometihng slightly akin to Monster Hunter set in the Horizon universe. I'll be interested to see what it ends up being if this ever happens.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Comes Out Swinging, Already EA's Biggest Single Player Game on Steam

soyabean135876

@Jey887
I know right - there were so many angry people online confidently informing us that by "going woke" Bioware would be "going broke"... surely they can't have been wrong can they?

This game lets you create a non-binary character and choose your pronouns...and yet there seem to be loads of us out here buying it and loving it.

It's almost as if they were just an angry loud minority making a lot of noise about it on social media and comments sections.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Gets 1 Hour of PS5 Gameplay Fresh from Gamescom

soyabean135876

Thanks to the poster higher up - didn't realise World had optional outlines.

Really excited for this - personally I'm a fan of simplifying the monster tracking elements - I've been playing the series since Tri, and never thought that wandering randomly/searching for tracks before the hunt started, really added to the experience once you'd done it the first 100 times - it was just pointless busywork.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing the Stellar Blade Demo?

soyabean135876

Played through once, struggled to enjoy it.

Combat just feels off to me. Not fast and fluid like Bayonetta, not slow and methodical like Elden Ring, but feels like an unsatisfying no mans land somewhere in between.

Will try another playthrough tonight and see if I can click with it though, visually it looks amazing.

Re: PS5 Pro's Proprietary DLSS-Esque Upscaler Sounds Superb

soyabean135876

Personally I'm much more interested in framerate than pushing for higher resolutions.

So the TLDR of this could be - games like Dragon's Dogma 2, or Starfield if it was ever ported, would just run at a higher effective resoution, but only get a modest framerate increase and still won't likely hit anywhere near 60FPS?

In which case, I doubt I'll be interested in an expensive upgrade.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5) - Strong Sequel Seeks a New Direction

soyabean135876

Only on chapter 4, but so far it's feeling like a big improvement over Remake.
Combat is subtly improved quite a lot, and the pacing seems to be a lot better regarding how often you are forced to do the slow-walking and listening to characters talk stuff. I would regularly play remake for 15 minutes chunks where nothing fun seemed to happen at all - this one seems much better balaced in that regard.

And since the latest patch, perfomance mode is still a little soft, but improved to the point it's not causing me eye strain (like the first version of the demo was doing quite badly for me).

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

soyabean135876

Bought one at lauch, impressive tech but horrific lack of support from Sony who seem to be just letting it slowly die.

What really makes me think it's doomed, is the fact that even after all this time, there is still no word on things like Youtube or Minecraft support - things you would have just taken for granted would release upgrades to support it.
If they have decided sales are so bad that it's not worth wasting resources on it, what are the chances of anybody investing any serious money making big budget games on it?

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo?

soyabean135876

Mixed feelings.
Never had a 60 fps game that left me feeling so much eye strain before, to the point it was putting me off playing to the end.
I'm guessing to do with the upscaled low resolution graphics, and the constant close up jarring camera changes in cutscenes make it hard to watch.
Really wish sometimes they'd just let you watch an event rather than overload with dramatic crash-cut camera jumping all over the place.
And just running around the hilly landscape feels incredibly lightweight and janky and cheaply made somehow.
Combat seems a bit improved though and music is fantastic.
