@Bismarck have been and price checked. Vanguard launched November 2021 64.99 is current Sony list price. Dropped in price 5 times with 43.99 the lowest charged. Amazon price 29.99 physical. BOIII (ZC) launched 2015 Sony list price 54.99. Price dropped 10 time in last 12 months. Currently 18. Amazon 19.99. Paying 69 on launch and being happy, no issues there. But I would be no less happy paying 49. Apple don’t want other app stores for a reason, neither do sony. Currently looking to buy Returnal but waiting for another price drop to match the last one.

In the normal world buying directly from the factory that made something is usually cheaper than a shop. If I was the only one to sell something I could charge what I wanted.

Fueled by a lack of competition that would normally exist in a retail environment Sony can change the prices at will to benefit from normal consumer behaviour. You don’t don’t see PlayStation direct selling PS1 consoles at $299 then put on offer for $79. Digital games have no value.the cost to produce 1 is the same as a million. I am surprise some American lawyer has not taken them to town about it. Let’s not forget what Sony said when it increased the upper pricing on new games built to harness the power of PS5. You cannot say I have to charge more as it costs more to produce then the cut price shortly there after. Why not sell the games for $200 on release with a 75% discount a few months down the line to extract the maximum possible revenue from people which what they are doing. Don’t believe me check out the normal price for black ops iii and find that price in a store.

It all sounds a bit of a faff really multiple tiers with different games, streaming options. At a guess they will check uptake and simplify things down the line with a basic plus and plus deluxe with all the other game options included. Can see little billy asking for a ps plus sub for Christmas and getting the essential when he wanted premium.

@Northern_munkey Agree. Have yet to see Farcry 5 for sale for 64.99 in a shop or Black ops 4 for sale for 84.99. I am pretty sure there was a tab channel that operated the same with greatly inflated original prices. It got shut down as was misleading consumers.

So when does Sony expect people to have the time to play these subscription games when they are also asking they buy new releases. (Sony Board Room: so we are basically asking our loyal customers to buy our games and then pay a subscription fee to access the same game on the service at a later date. Just checking but loyal customers who bought a PS1 game disc and still have it cannot use this to play the game on PS4/5. No they must pay the top tier subscription)

The price I am sure has nothing to do with it. Why you are forced to pay extra if you are fortunate to have a ps5 is a mystery. Assume there won’t be much need for a PS4 version to most people. Bought Cold War on the understanding they were running a battle pass system with free post launch content. Why there are characters you have to “buy” is a mystery. Fool me once….,,

Been affected by this myself. Just checked UK store and saw Crash 4 PS5 listed with a discounted price of34.99. Was previously unavailable. Added to basket and it was added with a discount applied bringing the price down to £0.00. Best guess was the PS5 version was not actually live on the store or did not have a release date. I looked at all PS5 games available on Saturday and Crash 4 was not listed. Downloading now.
