@Jey887 agree I just re-subbed after sitting back down on essential for a year and have already beaten about $125 worth of games. You don't have to keep it all the time, let it marinate for a while if you're not feeling it and come back later, especially if there's a sale going on.
@blecch which also brings up the ps4 pro, which was also just nice to have, not necessary. Maybe we are reaching a maturation point here, like iPads are, and we aren’t seeing monumental jumps like we used to.
They have yet to even fully establish why we need a PS5 given all the cross-platform games, let alone a PS6. I agree with the sentiment here. Not an urgent day 1 purchase.
@wildcat_kickz this is true lol, I guess my one note then would be that it was very emotionally draining and I've only recently built up the desire to give it a second playthrough.
@Voltan yeah but once you get to FF mode it required a bit more combos and damage mitigation/avoidance! The way they changed up fights in that game actually made me appreciate it a bit more than just a typical harder mode.
@Batesy125s I enjoyed Rebirth for what it was and it definitely brought many a tear to my eye reliving the story in a new way.
@Dissident I loved FF16 too, one of my top RPG experiences of the past few years. Metaphor was also quite the ride!
It's just that overall you see some games selling 100M units (Pokemon) and that's a huge success. JRPGs are such a niche genre, that selling 5, 10, 20M units seems very successful. I think we are just not being realistic. Even Breath of the Wild has been credited as being genre-redefining but only sold half as many copies as Mario Kart.
I can't help but wonder, who in their core audience is actually asking for AAA games? Yes we love them but JRPG enthusiasts are just as happy with games like Dragon Quest 3 and Octopath Traveler as they are with Rebirth, probably more so (I hated how many mini games were in that one). It seems like another company becoming obsessed with the bottom line.
These games had so much heart, combat was pretty unforgiving, too! Classic JRPGs through and through. I'll never forget spending so much time in the post-game of Eternal Blue scouring every inch of the map.
The great part about FF6's art is that it still looks great today, and has a lot of nostalgia to boot. I'd appreciate a patch or DLC that lets me play the additional content that was released (I think) on GBA. FF6 is not known for its difficulty so it would be nice to have a challenge.
@caiol92 people love to complain is why. If my PS5 breaks I would probably get a pro, but I'm not dumping over $800 after tax and a disc drive to get me where I'm at now. Do I need to let the whole world know about it at every opportunity? No.
I remember dumping a lot of time into this game and it wasn't very good back when PS2 was new lol. It had a pretty cool premise for the time. Hopefully someone can find some love for it!
@NinjaNicky sounds like the only downside for you may be portability since switch doesn’t need internet whereas the portal does…mainly thinking travel.
@NinjaNicky build quality is great. Feels light but solid. Love playing it on the couch or in bed. Really enjoying Eiyuden on it right now. RPG machine for sure. Tunic is great too!
Just got one last week and it's really awesome. Ergonomic, lightweight, and have had zero issues with connectivity. Looking forward to testing it on a weekend getaway soon where I'm not on my home wi-fi. PS5 is hardwired to fiber internet.
I don't understand why some realities merged but others didn't. Aeris had to die but Zach is still running around??? Overall it still broke my heart wide open, more so the grieving of the team in the final scenes over Aeris actually dying.
@Flaming_Kaiser not here to argue on the internet baby just stating throwing in a common feature as a patch isn’t free dlc. Not a comparison to any other game either. Have a good day.
@3Above was this the big bad fight at the very end of the epilogue? He was tough but I learned in OT1 to do a 4 & 4 setup. Do the chapters with 4 players and then the next 4 together so you have eight built up characters. It was tough but doable. Now, the same boss in OT1 sent me down a rabbit hole of despair and I gave up.
@Brydontk I can appreciate your perspective, it would be nice to have it all packaged together if you're looking at something like a physical collector's edition. For me, it's not that big of a deal.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About The Last of Us Part 2, 5 Years Later?
10/10 game for me, timeless story, emotion I've never felt in a game before/since, and fantastic combat. No notes.
Re: 9 New PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Available Now on PS5, PS4
Eiyuden is worth a playthrough if you're a Suikoden fan.

Re: Final Fantasy 16 May Have Underperformed on PS5, But It's Doing Terribly on Xbox
@Voltan I thought it was a 9/10, just a few cheap fights but it was a lot of fun getting the platinum. I still need to go back for the DLC.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Season 2 Episode 3 - Setting the Stage for a Revenge Odyssey
At first I was disappointed at their choice for Dina, but she is quickly embodying the role perfectly!

Re: Lunar Remastered Collection Brings Two Classic RPGs to PS4 in April
@Runex2121 haha, for sure! Back then I had more patience for some of the crap old RPGs pulled, but I'm sure I'll make an exception for Lunar.

@3Above I don't blame ya! I thought the way they handled that fight was truly epic but it can be complex!

@Drago201 it's such a staple that probably 1/2 of those new switch buyers will buy it at some point to have on the console.

Re: Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis Will Be Locked Behind Expansion Pass
This is laughably terrible but also just wait on a sale for it if the extra $15 is too much to justify for junk DLC.

Holy ***** this is most likely a day 1 purchase.

While not the most frugal option, what's it going to be, $20 at most? That's less than what you'd pay for lunch and a drink these days.
Re: The Last of Us HBO Showrunner Quashes Hopes for a Bill and Frank Spin-Off
Thank god. The episode was a master class in great story telling and should be left alone.
