People always say "If Sony did that you wouldn't be mad" and call out "Sony fanboys" and etc etc. Its disturbing that only Sony is ever called out and has grudges held against it (the guy yesterday going on about Spiderman from the 360 days being taken away by Insomniac & Sony for example).
Like, is this a press narrative? Is it some weird tribalism against a Japanese company? I just don't get why many, even people who own a Playstation, are quicker to blame Sony for everything than even question Xbox.
@__jamiie You may not be an ass kisser but you sure are condescending. Plenty of us are "grown ups" but not all of us are financially well off to buy 3 consoles and all the games and controllers and peripherals for them that they entail.
We're also "grown ups" in that we fear the power of gigantic unstoppable corporations versus the consumer.
I'm sorry, what? That's like walking up to a guy, punching him, then saying, "I trust you're not going to hurt me." Dude, you're the one calling the shots now. You're the leader now with all your publishers. Set an example if you're worried the other platforms won't act the way you want them to hard eye roll
I think it's ironic that he cautions against tech giants when 1.) Microsoft 2.) Gamepass is their main selling point, and streaming games is already, IMO, a step toward an anti-gamer gaming industry. One where you never own games, you can only own a subscription
Yesterday we were all agreeing about dangerous monopolies but now that Phil Spencer said "chill", a bunch of you are calling a bunch of us names for reacting the way we did.
Do you realize how you're being manipulated by the corporations? I bet you're under the spell of Elon and Bezos and Tim too
Wake up and stop infighting. Its not Xbox vs Playstation, it's greed vs balance. It'd be nice to be Ninty PS & MS against the tech giants, but let's face it, if either Sony or MS can step on each others face and push them down to come out alive, they'll take it.
The future is shaky on all fronts for gaming. Stop assuming everyone wanted to make fun of Xbox. Stop assuming we think Phil is Hitler. Stop assuming and be cautiously optimistic instead of mocking.
Unwarranted comments comparing it to equally good franchises aside... I love HP. Grew up with the books as they came out. I always wanted the world to be real, and finally we're someday, some year, getting the closest thing.
Whenever it comes, I'll be ready and waiting. After the Cyberpunk fiasco, I'd rather wait years for it to be fully cooked than have devs rush to put out a half-baked disappointment.
P.S. Seriously guys, why compare it to other fantasy series? Everyone grew up with a fantasy series, we get it!
@jFug Siren's been neglected for a while, would be an interesting title to revive. And seeing as Sony owns Team Asobi, I dont see why not! And with the constant stream of new horror IPs cropping up on all platforms, I think yeah, there's a market for a new one by Sony. There's a huge interest in survival horror coming off all these co-op survival horror games and Supermassive's Anthology series, and Resi of course.
I jusr particularly think SH is the ideal ugly duckling waiting to be scooped up and shone its beautiful true nature again, particularly because everyone but their owner cares about it. I was there for the Blue Box Conspiracy lmao. The hype is real but Konami is deaf to it. Konami has shown they give not a whit about it other than pachinko games, and Sony has the chops to revive it. Hell, they were ready to.
@jFug if Sony can get Konami to either make Silent Hills or give up the IP and make it themselves, that'll cover them on the survival horror front. Makes sense since the only SH games worth playing were PS1 and PS2 only
@UltimateOtaku91 Unfortunately, according to some friends i know in countries whose main language isn't English, casual gamers and games are the norm. It's all COD and Fifa and such. So worldwide Xbox will be dominant.
I buy Playstations because it's the brand I know, the "environment" I know. I'm 28, and I've been collecting trophies for a solid decade+ now. The PS4 era kept me sane, and showed me that Playstation cares about their players. Never had a bad experience.
Just because I'll miss out on Obsidian games and maybe another Dishonored doesn't mean I'm dumping them, or even buying an Xbox. I'm a loyal customer. People toss the word fanboy and fangirl around, but brand loyalty has always been a thing, outside gaming.
Also, I have literally 400 games across PS4 and PS Plus. It would be insane to buy a console that doesn't support them.
(And in case it wasn't clear I don't play any Activision games, they're an afterthought in this mess)
@Col_McCafferty I dunno if the people commenting about antitrust laws and monopolies realize that here in America Microsoft can just throw money at lobbies and lawmakers to make any problems go away. They may go to court, but for a slap on the wrist/a public showing that the government "still cares"
Look at all the rich politicians, actors and etc getting off on huge charges with tiny sentences, returning to their normal lives almost immediately. And a corporation living up to the capitalist American dream? Pfft. This will go through just fine.
@Ashina As much as l agree with not wanting Sony to follow suit, I think Microsoft is a Pacman of acquisitions right now, and if Sony doesn't act fast, there'll be nothing but crumbs. Sony has always been known as the home of JRPGs, I think acquiring Square would be a good move, and on brand. They'd have access to Tomb Raider, too, which was originally a PS property anyway.
@AdamNovice Never. Sony is always the bad guy, somehow. You never hear people decry "Xbox fanboys", and after the Bethesda buyout, even most Sony subreddits users were shuffling their feet and refusing to get mad or worried or care.
Anyway.... this is a depressing turn of events. Thankfully we got our remasters because CTR was my childhood, but.... what the hell is gonna happen from here??
A little ironic that The Outer Worlds IP is owned by Microsoft...
On a more sober, somber note, I still haven't gotten over the Obsidian buyout. I dont have a PC capable of running new releases, and I dont want to buy an Xbox as the mentality of the PS community since 4 has been one of diversity in audience and genre, meanwhile Xbox has been very bro-y for generations, both with their first party titles and their fans. PS4 era acknowledged girl gamers, gave us heroines with moxie. Also... I've had a PS since 1. Since I was like 6. I'm at home here.
I'm just saddened because Xbox is clearly counting on people like me with deep love for developers jumping ship, platform wise, because I would have to. If this is revenge, this is petty. This just shows the difference between a great game publisher and one who has no vision, only eyes for the dollar signs.
Sony will bounce back, but at what cost to all gamers?
@DeepSpace5D Indeed, especially as 90s nostalgia seems to be hitting an all-time high lately. They could remake a vast amount of their catalog and ensure a lot of multi-generational fans stay with the console next gen, or hell, bring some old PSone fans back.
@NomNom I agree, I've been a PS gamer through all of Obsidian's major hits — FNV, KOTOR2, TOW — and I think they make content in line with "Sony's vision", as that other person said. They make good RPGs with good stories, and if that isnt a Sony trademark I dont know what is. I wished they had scooped Obsidian, but I think Microsoft taking it was probably better, given their record of making Xbox AND PC compatible games. If Obsidian couldn't publish to PS and PC, there would be an outcry.

@Stragen8 That was a gut punch, that acquisition. I agree, more story RPGs/tactical RPGs along those lines would be a good move
