Re: This PS5, PS4 Shooter Does Live-Service Right, Next Big Warframe DLC Out This Year

extragood

I put around 350 hours into Waframe before I moved on, and after watching the trailer I'm tempted to jump back into it for a while.

For those who would like to start: Digital Extremes doesn't vault content from Waframe so the whole story and all activities from the beginning are accessible. My recommendation would be to pick a frame that sound fun (you will be able to change it freely after some point in the story), play through the initial story content, start going through the Star Map planets, explore the big open-world areas (Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallis, Cambion Drift) you eventually will have access to, try The Duviri Paradox (a separate fun co-op game mode where you can get additional frames every week) and don't play what doesn't look fun to you. For example, almost no one plays Waframe PvP in my experience, Railjack missions (where you fly around in a space ship you eventually can build and improve) are also fairly empty except for story missions, and the hoverboard you can eventually get is somewhat of a running joke in the community.

Yes, it can get overwhelming with all the things you can do, bear in mind that this is still a game-as-a-service title and seeing all the high-level players flying around the maps in shiny armor with awesome weapons can get you FOMO real fast but set yourself a goal (such as a new frame or a weapon to work toward, a pet to breed, a build to achieve) and focus on that. Dip into content slightly outside of your core focus to see what is and isn't fun to you. Oh, and join a clan, this will help you get blueprints for interesting parts and the clan members I met are extremely helpful and supportive if you say you are a newcomer.

You don't have to spend money on the premium currency (platinum) if you don't want to, you sometimes get small amounts from free as part of seasonal drops, and there are a few PS Plus packs with parts and platinum to redeem and get you started. The timers to build anything (frame parts, weapons, upgrades) can be annoying (upward of 24 hours of real time) but you can log off and let the timer run in the background while you play something else (or use platinum to speed the timer up, though I wouldn't recommend it). Waframe is a great game to just come back to for a few days at a time between other games, and you will be surprised how much you can progress in just a couple of weeks. However, it is a marathon, don't expect to "get everything" in a month, in fact I'd argue that trying to get every single frame/weapon/build card is the worst way to engage with it. Be laser focused on what you want, ignore everything else, and you'll have a much better time.

Let me know if you have any questions, the information I have is about two years old but should still apply to the initial part of the game.

Looks to me like Eastern developers are stepping up to fill the epic-and-technically-impressive-single-player-game void where Western developers are not sure whether to chase the live-service bag or taking years to release their games. I'm generalizing of course but I feel like I've seen many more impressive-looking Eastern single-player games than Western ones over the past couple of years.

@Sarcasmatwork Thank you for your opinion. I tend to agree that since the readership here is presumably heavily skewed towards younger players, a prevalent opinion leans towards, "Play it on the hardest difficulty with no hand-holding for the best experience." However, sometimes having guidance, being able to turn off your brain and simply enjoy the game in short bursts is just what we need.

Re: Old But Not Forgotten, Far Cry New Dawn Gets 60fps Patch on PS5

extragood

@Ashina Would love to see 60 FPS patch for AC Unity, especially since Syndicate recently got a 60 FPS patch, and 1.0 version of Unity supported 60 FPS (along with a hilarious number of bugs) before it was patched out later. That gives me hope that it shouldn't be too difficult to add it back in.

Oh, and I just started playing Unity so if they release a 60 FPS patch soon, I may be just tempted to start over.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 560

I was a lucky recipient of a wastewater leak in my basement this past week and my brand new PS5 Pro has been sitting idle since then. However, once I gain access to it again, I plan to finish my Star Wars Jedi: Survivor playthrough, I've been enjoying it a lot despite some technical issues that have nothing to do with PS5 Pro (getting stuck on top of an elevator or clipping through the floor once or twice, no big deal). Overall, the game is surprisingly big and I am already looking forward to the post-game cleanup where I discover all the nooks and crannies with collectibles. Also, the map interface is so much better compared to Fallen Order.

Re: Xbox Is Eager to Build the Best Games You Can Enjoy Everywhere

extragood

The Xbox games I'd like to see on PlayStation are Gears of War (remastered single player campaigns for the whole series only, please), The Elder Scrolls VI (because why not), Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and Pentiment (already got that one). Gran Turismo is a pretty solid replacement for Forza Motosport 5 and I'm not a big fan of racing games anyway.

Microsoft's current strategy works just fine for me as long as they give us PlayStation fans some love, port older games over and release at least the big titles on PlayStation.

Re: Elden Ring Dev Doesn't Currently Know What's Happening with Sony Acquisition

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I think the "leak" was intentional on Kadokawa's part to send a signal to any potential interested buyers, "Now's the time to give us a better offer, otherwise Sony is going to be the new owner."

Even with some loss of goodwill ("leaking" intent to purchase is considered not kosher), it can work as a good tactic to both slightly pressure Sony to not get out of the negotiations (since other buyers are now aware that Sony is interested in Kadokawa and may buy it), and for any other interested buyer (because they can get Kadokawa instead of Sony and reap any benefits Sony would have otherwise gotten).

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Game Awards 2024?

Fantastic show, the Witcher 4 announcement right at the start was awesome, Okami is finally getting a sequel, and then the deserved win for Astro Bot. I also enjoyed the Muppet intermissions, they should bring them back again next time.

The only thing missing for me was anything from Sony Santa Monica, they've been quiet after God of War Ragnarök, would love to know what they've been cooking up.

Re: DualSense Edge, Pulse Headphones Reportedly Getting Black Variant

It's interesting that Push Square doesn't seem interested to mention the almost-continuous unavailability of the replacement stick modules for DualSense Edge. There are Reddit threads where people report their controllers being unusable due to stick drift and other issues and yet being unable to replace their stick modules because they're perpetually out ot stock, save for paying scalpers.

Re: The Callisto Protocol Haunts in 8K with Huge PS5 Pro Patch

extragood

I see that since the vocal PS5 Pro detractors can't use the "PS5 Pro can't run games at 4K60 with ray tracing" argument this time, they deftly and swiftly switched to "no one has 8K display to play this on anyway" or "we need 16K upscaling."

Moving the goalposts is indeed popular on Push Square.

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

extragood

Ah yes, the discourse here is once again reasonable, polite, and kind. No mentions of indentured servitude, selling a newborn or a kidney to afford PS5 Pro. No exaggerations around how miniscule of an update PS5 Pro really is. No unsolicited advice that people should just stick with the base PS5. That's why I like PushSquare, the haven of sanity and constructive discussions.

Please continue, I will be reading the comments here most eagerly next week while playing on my PS5 Pro and having fun, a word that surely still is in any dictionary in case you forgot what it means.

@ecurb7 Fully agree with your comment.

Re: PlayStation's Dual CEO Setup Has 'Opportunities and Risks'

extragood

I liked Hulst when he was at Guerrilla Games but since he moved up the corporate ladder and ended up a CEO, I think he's in way over his head and it shows. With Concord dead, Firewalk closed, and literally no repercussions for him (at least on the outside), his credit tanked hard in my eyes.

But make no mistake: Sony's shareholders noticed and Hermen is not the golden child of the next leadership generation at Sony anymore. One more high-profile flop like that and we'll be soon reading about Helmen "taking a break from leadership duties to spend time with family" or "a necessary restructuring of the business" as he's shown the door. Hermen knows his position is in danger and will be extra careful about the games he greenlights and backs, especially live service ones. In my opinion, if Marathon or Fairgame$ (or both) flops, Hermen won't have a leg to stand on in the PlayStation organization.

Re: New Dragon's Dogma 2 Patch Prepares for PS5 Pro with PSSR, Balanced Settings

extragood

It seems that some people here, after the initial obligatory outrage at PS5 Pro's price and snarky remarks, managed a smooth about-face and are now the new console's vocal proponents. Opinions change and that's good.

Either way, I'm glad everyone's happy: haters for still being able to hate on the price, and the rest of us for getting the best PlayStation experience.

Re: Poll: Did You Pre-Order a PS5 Pro?

extragood

"It's been a similar story with pre-orders in the US..."

PS Direct has had PS5 Pros in stock all day yesterday and you can buy one right now without being put in queue. Only the 30th Anniversary edition but Sony seemed to have learned its lesson and has enough consoles on offer this time.

Re: In the UK, PS5 Pro Has Already Completely Sold Out

extragood

Got mine just now, 27-minute wait in queue, then added it to the cart and checked out. Took 3 minutes, no slowdowns, the 30th Anniversary Edition is of course gone but wasn't interested in that one anyway.

Congratulations to those who managed to get their Pros.

I see the article got updated with Amazon and Walmart affiliate links. Never let a controversy get in the way of scoring a commission, makes sense.
