Warframe studio Digital Extremes announced over the weekend its next big content update for the third-person shooter will launch for free on PS5, PS4 later in 2025. Given the title The Old Peace, you can get a taste for it in the trailer above.
What started as a PS4 launch game, Warframe has grown in size, stature, and popularity across 12 years of constant support. The team states it has more than 85 million players, and an annual festival celebrating the game, TennoCon, marked its 10th year this past weekend.
In a press release, creative director Rebecca Ford praised the Warframe community for supporting the festival for 10 years. "To be able to continue TennoCon and bring together more players in person from around the world and treat them to the latest announcements, hijinks, and simply celebrate the world of Warframe is a privilege we don’t take for granted. The 10th TennoCon has been a deeply special, unforgettable journey."
The Old Peace also brings with it a side story called The Devil's Triad, a new enemy faction, and much more. You can learn more through the link.
Digital Extremes delivers its content updates for free, and is supported by DLC packs that customise your characters as well as premium currency. Do you play Warframe? Put your thoughts on The Old Peace update in the comments below.

There's times that I want get back into Warframe but I always find it tricky to figure out what I'm meant to do.
It's why I'm more interested in Soulframe since I can start that from the beginning.
Hey Bungie, this is how you do live service.
@AdamNovice I wrote this recently about this exact topic! https://www.five26.one/blog/idea-video-game-recap
@AdamNovice I'm the same, I played it when it first launched on PC but then missed all of the content updates since then, so I just don't even know where to start.
I put around 350 hours into Waframe before I moved on, and after watching the trailer I'm tempted to jump back into it for a while.
For those who would like to start: Digital Extremes doesn't vault content from Waframe so the whole story and all activities from the beginning are accessible. My recommendation would be to pick a frame that sound fun (you will be able to change it freely after some point in the story), play through the initial story content, start going through the Star Map planets, explore the big open-world areas (Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallis, Cambion Drift) you eventually will have access to, try The Duviri Paradox (a separate fun co-op game mode where you can get additional frames every week) and don't play what doesn't look fun to you. For example, almost no one plays Waframe PvP in my experience, Railjack missions (where you fly around in a space ship you eventually can build and improve) are also fairly empty except for story missions, and the hoverboard you can eventually get is somewhat of a running joke in the community.
Yes, it can get overwhelming with all the things you can do, bear in mind that this is still a game-as-a-service title and seeing all the high-level players flying around the maps in shiny armor with awesome weapons can get you FOMO real fast but set yourself a goal (such as a new frame or a weapon to work toward, a pet to breed, a build to achieve) and focus on that. Dip into content slightly outside of your core focus to see what is and isn't fun to you. Oh, and join a clan, this will help you get blueprints for interesting parts and the clan members I met are extremely helpful and supportive if you say you are a newcomer.
You don't have to spend money on the premium currency (platinum) if you don't want to, you sometimes get small amounts from free as part of seasonal drops, and there are a few PS Plus packs with parts and platinum to redeem and get you started. The timers to build anything (frame parts, weapons, upgrades) can be annoying (upward of 24 hours of real time) but you can log off and let the timer run in the background while you play something else (or use platinum to speed the timer up, though I wouldn't recommend it). Waframe is a great game to just come back to for a few days at a time between other games, and you will be surprised how much you can progress in just a couple of weeks. However, it is a marathon, don't expect to "get everything" in a month, in fact I'd argue that trying to get every single frame/weapon/build card is the worst way to engage with it. Be laser focused on what you want, ignore everything else, and you'll have a much better time.
Let me know if you have any questions, the information I have is about two years old but should still apply to the initial part of the game.
I tried getting into Warframe a few years ago, but I had absolutely no idea what was going on with the story. Appreciate how Digital Extremes goes about their business though.
@tweaknmod Interesting read. A lot of long running live service games seem to have this problem.
Awesome game, wish it would get Some new Trophies. I’ve had the 100% for years…
Played for over 1000 hours but I agree, there’s almost too much of it now, and it’s hard to go back to. There is a LOT of game there, but going in with the mentality to complete it and collect everything is a path to madness.
Still my favourite game ever but the story is awful.
It is however the best run GaaS I have ever seen, the community knows it and supports it because of that.
@AdamNovice Thanks for taking the time to read!
For those interested in jumping into Warframe but don't know where to start, The devs have added a codex in-game that points you in the right direction story wise. You will be jumping around the solar system a lot but the story will be consistent.
I bounced off Warframe when it first launched and have ignored it since then. It’s wild to read it has thrived and now is so popular it has a massive community and a yearly IRL festival. Probably still not for me, but everything doesn’t need to fit that criteria and I tip my hat to the developers and wish them continued success.
