Don't mind some attractive characters...had a lot of fun playing Stellar Blade. But I can't get on board with games that are designed to constantly extract money from players. So I wish this kind of content was coming to a game with a different monetization model.
Yeah, this headline is a little crazy. Firmly under the camp of "technically true," because there exist people who will be disappointed by the news, while not necessarily reflective of the general atmosphere, the vast majority of people will just be happy to have access to these games on a modern console. In fact, I would say that the overall sentiment would skew towards positivity given that, as the article acknowledges, you can actually buy the games right from the onset, as opposed to Capcom's PS1 releases on PS5 in the past. Do we have any solid info on how trophies affect purchasing/playing habits? Perhaps my assumption that the is an infinitesimally small number of trophy addicts is incorrect?
Very happy that the OG RE trilogy is now available on a modern console...would be cool to also say that about the original Silent Hill trilogy.
I'd be stoked for Capcom vs SNK 3. It seems like it would be tricky to pull off, given that the Street Fighter 6 pipeline has been a little slow. In terms of gameplay, I wouldn't mind current SNK taking a swing at another SvC game.
@get2sammyb you were right about this, good call. Given the gap between characters (another character or two per year would be so nice) I don't love seeing a new character before the previous one has even released...but I do love what I'm seeing for C. Viper.
@get2sammyb heads up, the article correctly says he's coming out today, but it also says he's coming out in November...with times being reported as coming out Monday, (presumably because November 3 is a Monday) when it's actually Sunday.
@get2sammyb think cross play would help much now that we’re a few months after launch? Not that I’d say to no to it, along with the single player content.
Sick update though! Not something I thought Capcom would put the effort into, so it’s cool to see them actually do it.
EDIT: though it would have been cool for this content to be on the physical release!
@Anya-chan if One Piece Fighterz or Capcom vs SNK 3 were revealed, I'd lose my mind.
I've been thinking of how it's a bid odd in the era when devs are announcing their whole roster of DLC a year in advance. Like, what can really be revealed for Street Fighter? We've already got gameplay and a character guide for Sagat, he's out next Tuesday, plus swimming suit costumes for several characters. C Viper won't be out for several months, so it might be too early to get the hype train rolling for her.
Strive can obviously show off Lucy, but I wonder if they'll confirm season 5, or at least a new character or two (Jam). Hopefully a release date for the ranked mode update.
We've already seen gameplay of Ken in Fatal Fury, so I imagine we'll get a release date for him.
I enjoyed Stellar Blade's emphasis on how attractive Eve is. So I don't mind seeing it here, it caught my eye and caused me to look into it. But upon looking at it, Code Violet doesn't look to be up to the same level of quality as Stellar Blade. I'll look for reviews to see if it ends up being better than it seems, but lack of a physical release means I'll end up waiting for a PC release even if it ends up being great.
I hate that companies are doing this. So I'm with the people who are mad. But has it ever affected how well a game sells? If the answer is no, and will continue to be no, I'm not sure what can be done, other than to comment that this sucks. If there are instances where community feedback has led to a game that was fauxsical (feel free to run with that) to being actually physical, I would love to hear about them. Totally cool if those of us who are opposed to this continue to not buy them out of principal, but I don't see a world where this doesn't become more and more commonplace.
If they don't have problems filling matches, then why are bots placed in matches? Seems like pretty reliably I'll come across a pair of bots just circling each other, apparently unable to actually lands shots on one another. Maybe I'm just a scrub and if I were to "git gud" then my matches would be full of real players...? I wouldn't mind if matchmaking had to take a few more seconds to make a match full of real people. Genuine question that has confused me about the game.
I think that “PCs are harder to set up” is a pretty weak sales pitch for why someone should be in the console ecosystem. But it’s what you’re left with when PlayStation is releasing what would have formerly been exclusive games on PC and trying to train customers to buy games digitally. I get it, they want to expand their customer base and make as much money as possible, but I do think that, in doing so, PC makes more and more sense for gaming enthusiasts.
A lot of bad information gets repeated in cases like this. Search for doesitplay dot org. It’s a website that shows, for physical games, whether a patch is required to play the game and if an online connection is required to play the game.
I view the code in a box thing as anti-consumer and won’t touch those games.
@Quintumply is there a satisfying narrative arc in the game?
I somehow both like what I'm seeing, but hope at some point there's a little more life to the game, like something living chasing you rather than just evading a storm while funky terrain effects are going off.
@Skeletor85 Pretty sure Raiden is going to be an additional paid skin. Pretty common for them to do that with the extra character slot in the battle pass, like with Eren Yeager -> Mikasa, Levi and Geralt -> Ciri, Yennefer. Actually, with that trend (two additional characters on top of the battle pass character) I wouldn't hate for them to put in another notable character alongside Raiden...
Looks good! But Atlus has me skittish with their releases. Why buy this now when there's a very real possibility they release a Royal/Golden version in a year or two that adds the female protagonist and other stuff as well.
Feels like Sony is evolving. Rather than put out a new piece of hardware that they will drop support for too soon, the hardware is so specialized and limited that they won't need to support it.
The best feature of this battle pass is (in my opinion, of course) that it's worthless. I say that as someone who primarily plays ranked matches on a consistent basis. You would think they would make the battle pass enticing to a player like me. Instead the rewards from the battle pass are mostly cosmetics for your single player charater/lobby avatar. Maybe we'll get to the point where they include costumes for the actual characters, and at that point they might have my interest.
@get2sammyb looks like the original tweet was deleted, and "corrected". Just looks like a poor attempt at damage control. Think we're setting up for a DS2 trailer at The Game Awards?

@IonMagi on the right hand side of the image it says "A Hideo Kojima Game x Elle Fanning" so I think it's fairly reasonable to expect it to be a game.
