@EfYI no real tips as such, but there are a wealth of support groups and therapists out there.
Tinnitus is different for each person, the tone/pitch that I hear may be higher or lower than your friend, the consistency may be different.
For myself, the realization that tinnitus is constant and never actually goes away was the "ah ha!" moment, as most people with light tinnitus think it comes and goes, but it doesn't - your brain is just distracted by other noises so filters it out. From that point on I'd try to find background noises, like sitting outside where I can hear the wind, birds, animals etc, and use that to distract myself.
The mental health aspect is huge, as you have to come to terms with the fact that your hearing is damaged and you'll probably never 'hear' silence again, so finding some form of therapy is strongly recommended.
This weekend I will mostly be playing some Fallout 76, Gran Turismo 7 and maybe some Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice, although as my tinnitus is feeling a little spicey right now, I can't see that game having the same impact...
"What? What is that noise? Is that supposed to be someone talking? What? Who said that? What are they saying? Hello?"
@get2sammyb "With all six of the featured girls very much in Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating range" - got a solid laugh out of that one!
Also, why is photos being saved on your SSD a negative? Is there some reason you don't want the photos saved outside of the game? Maybe someone else in your house may stumble upon them when they're using the console? Eh? Eh? Something you don't want your significant other seeing?
@Member_the_game my daughter is the same, although try as I might I can't get her into Mario Kart, but she'll happily spend time on Animal Crossing.
From what I've seen with my daughter, her friends and my nieces and nephews, kids are either "casual", wanting to play Roblox or Minecraft on a tablet, or they're excited for the latest games and want consoles or gaming PCs. I've yet to hear a single child say they played a game on Netflix, let alone anyone knowing Netflix has games, so I sincerely doubt Netflix is the future of gaming.
Impressive? You're using that word sarcastically, right?
If there were a few extra tracks, cars, Sophy update, tweaking to the economy so we don't have to grind the same 2 races for a decent pay out, then this would be an impressive update.
3 cars, a few extra races (that will be those cars used on existing tracks) and a tweak to Sophy is just a mediocre update, same as we usually get.
That would be wildly comical if true! While Blu-ray discs and printing labels isn't that expensive, it's still a cost. If you're not going to put the actual game on the disc, save the cost of the discs and labels, and just don't do a physical edition!
"The alternative application, and the one PushSquare have gone for, is that as the game utilizes the PS5 Pros hardware to make the game look better, that must inherently mean people will buy the PS5 Pro because of this game. The problem with that approach though is that correlation isn't visible - there is no visible proof that there has been or will be an increase in PS5 Pro sales because of AC Shadows."
Just making the game look better doesn't make it a system seller - people would have to actively go out and buy a PS5 Pro because of AC Shadows, for it to be a system seller. Currently there is no evidence that that has or will happen.
@Darude84 "system seller" doesn't apply here, so people are poking.
A true system seller is usually a tent-pole franchise that is exclusive to one console manufacturer, meaning if people want to play that game they have to buy that console. AC Shadows isn't console exclusive, so "system seller" doesn't apply in the conventional terms.
The alternative application, and the one PushSquare have gone for, is that as the game utilizes the PS5 Pros hardware to make the game look better, that must inherently mean people will buy the PS5 Pro because of this game. The problem with that approach though is that correlation isn't visible - there is no visible proof that there has been or will be an increase in PS5 Pro sales because of AC Shadows. Put that aside and the game has been labelled a "system seller" based purely on the fact that it utilizes the PS5 Pro hardware, and so every game that utilizes the hardware to improve over base console version now has to be labelled a system seller. Those horrendous "Jump Jump" games? Get them to run at 120fps with 4K resolution and Ray Tracing on the PS5 Pro and you've got a system seller!
I don't think Sony have done anything regarding the "eslop" on the store. It's all still there.
When a bunch of articles were run about a month back across various outlets, reporting that Sony had removed some eslop, PSU quickly investigated and found it was all still there. Other content had just been added which pushed the eslop further down the list.
Sony don't have any reason to remove this slop from the store. It sells, it may never sell to the extent that it cracks a top 10 list, but Sony get a cut of any revenue these cheap, eslop titles make. Sure, we may think that Sony need to pull this stuff from the store, but to Sony, there is no difference between the devs behind indie classics like What Remains of Edith Finch and the devs behind "Jump Jump Pizza Pop" - they're all developers trying to sell games on the PSN, and that equals money for Sony.
The 'Open World RPG' aka abundance of map markers, collectables, towers etc is what loses me with the modern AC games. While they've always been a feature of the AC games, early on it was a handful of things to do on the side, leaving the main story as the focus, but now the expectation is that you'll spend hours upon hours doing busy work that has no bearing on the actual story. This is why I haven't completed an AC game since Black Flag.
I could never wrap my head around the mechanics of this one - it's 3vs3 but everyone has a spectre, a kind of second body, that they can switch to, parking their unused body on the map. Why? Why did we need that? What happens if someone else finds the parked body? Why not just have a second life?
Rather than those questions creating intrigue, they just caused confusion and a desire to play a simple, straight forward game.
@Tyrii yeah, just cosmetics that can be used to individualize your space marine in the co-op and multiplayer modes. No DLC that could give you an advantage over others.
I played through the campaign at launch, spent a handful of hours completing the co-op missions and tried some PvP, and then dipped out. Came back to this a few days ago, so I didn't know there are community days or a roadmap etc. Not greatly interested in further cosmetics as I already stumped up for the Dark Angels pack (For the Lion!) so I'm pretty much set...
Unless the devs want to make DLC of the higher ranking chapter characters...
I'm obviously at a point in my life where I don't feel the need to get upset over every single little detail, especially not where an option exists to pay more to play earlier.
If you want to play earlier, pay. If you don't want to play earlier, don't pay. Simple.
As for the "spoilers may appear online!" crap - even if we all got the game at the same time, there will always be people who have ample time to play vs. those that don't, so people will always be further ahead than you, creating the risk of spoilers. Unless we all play at exactly the same pace, and pinky-promise not to post footage online, spoilers will always exist for high profile media.
I like this note though "This is a questionable enough tactic from publishers on its own, as it offers a temporary bonus designed to make you spend more money over the standard version." as that's how pretty much all pre-orders and special editions work these days - pay extra to get some special award. I've been running around Monster Hunter Wilds and Space Marine 2 with unique armor because I pre-ordered both. Are we against special editions and perks now? Are we all supposed to have exactly the same edition of the game and at the same time just so it's fair for everyone?
If you really think it's worth getting upset over any of that, you need to grow up.
It looks like it was designed by a teenager. You can buy replacement parts to create that colour scheme yourself, the only thing they've really done here that is difficult to mimic is stuck logos and icons from the game in random spots on the controller.
Also worth pointing out that white is a poor choice for buttons, especially thumb sticks. Skin naturally secretes oils which will gradually cause the thumb sticks and triggers to yellow.
@Almost_Ghostly if your account isn't in good standing i.e. you have a history of infractions and bans, you probably won't be accepted. If your account is in good standing, you'll probably get the acceptance email fairly quickly.
So the question should be - if anyone doesn't get accepted, let us know (so we can quietly judge you for being toxic)!
"gaining beta access to test participating games" I think this is a key statement - if publishers don't participate, you may still need to go directly through them to participate in their betas.
Not really a "sign up once and get access to every beta possible", more "sign up and get access to betas for publishers we've partnered with".
@Enuo and the rest of us will just continue to live life normally, as not spending money for 24 hours is perfectly normal, and so it's highly unlikely to impact any companies or organizations in any tangible way. That stuff aside...
I fully intent to play Wilds later on today when work slows down, and then throw in a few hours later tonight!
@Jay767 Sony are outselling Xbox 3:1 because they are competition...
If there were no competition for Sony, Sony don't have to worry about having the best hardware, about attracting the best talent or making the best games. In that case the industry can stagnate - why work to release a new console when you're the only console on the market? Why cut deals with CPU/GPU manufacturers to make bespoke chips that are better than anyone else's? Why work to push technology with things like creating the fastest SSD?
If there is no competition, you don't have to worry about making the best console or games. You don't even have to worry about innovative features to differentiate your console from your rivals, like the haptip triggers on the DualSense, because whatever you put out is the only option.
Competition is what drives industry. Sony need competition because that is what drives them to make the best console and games possible.
Like most I was excited for the tiers when they were revealed, spent the first year on Extra and then re-evaluated it. After the first price hike, I decided the quality of games vs. time I have to play vs. the amount of games from the sub that I actually played and completed, it just wasn't worth it and dropped to Essential. Even now I rarely play the Essential games we get, and mainly play games I buy.
With regards to the increase in revenue, yeah, if you increase your subscription costs, revenue goes up, but another market phenomenon comes in to play - the customers that choose to stick around at the increased cost will often think that as they're now paying more for their current tier (Extra), they may as well pay the extra cost for the top tier (Premium), without actually thinking about the total extra expense.
Oh Sony/Bungie... This just makes me sad. After all of the recent failures, industry shrinking and lay-offs, you're now pushing a MOBA? There's a reason MOBA's haven't broken in on console, but they remain popular on PC, and it has something to do with the control scheme...
Please don't do this. Have Bungie drop this and just focus on Marathon and making Destiny better...
I've worked in customer service for 20+ years, specializing in de-escalation, so seeing the PSN go down was inconvenient, but I was sure Sony were working on a fix ASAP, losing my temper wouldn't have gained anything (it rarely ever does).
As for the extended PSN subscription time, Sony didn't have to do that, it's a goodwill gesture offered to their subscribers. I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and irrationally demand more, so I'll take it.
@Ultimapunch "They look at the profit margins for the 3 or 4 live service titles that are very successful."
I think you need to take this a step further - they almost treat "live service" as if that is a genre itself, not paying attention to the genre of game they're trying to apply "live service" to, and the genre that the most successful live service games actually fall in to.
If CEOs think a live-service racer or live-service RPG will pull in the profits of live-service battle royales like Fortnite and Apex, I'd question whether those CEOs should actually be CEOs in the first place.
@Darkri74345 "good" is subjective. You may like this selection, but that doesn't mean others have to, and there is nothing wrong with either stance.
People have opinions and they want to share those opinions, it's in our nature. If you feel that the bias is negative, maybe you're more sensitive to negative opinions? There are an abundance of positive comments in this thread, why not focus on those opinions?
But do we get the OG Gears online experience of kids whining about people using the lancer chainsaw, and updates on how their relationship with my mum is going? It'd be 10/10 nostalgia for me if we do!
Forza Motorsport maybe, as that series always had better car customization than it's direct competitor Gran Turismo (i.e. they're both track racers, although apparently Motorsport is no-where near as good as GT7).
Forza Horizons nah, we already have a gaggle of open-world arcade racers. If I feel like racing open-world, I'll just load up The Crew Motorfest.
@RegrettableSuperhero my guess would be how it's integrated in to the existing PS5 coding.
As the 30th Anniversary themes were added as something separate from normal console theme settings, hence there is a separate menu section to enable/disable them, it's quite likely that the coding for the 30th Anniversary theme is "bolted on" and runs as an app on the console, with the theme being an overlay of the default theme rather than replacing it. This is an acceptable temporary deployment measure, but it can be unstable if you upgrade the base software/coding.
It may take Sony time to deploy the themes proper as to do it properly, they may need to rework the coding for themes in the firmware to include the 30th Anniversary themes, so it's embedded in the actual firmware, rather than act as an overlay app.
It is amusing how bizarre the selection of cars in these updates are. Kaz has said that Gran Turismo is about car culture and the love of cars... Just we were all expecting the focus to be on cars that people actually want, not some random jank like the Honda C-HR S! Like... Damn! If I drove one of those down to the local car meet, everyone would assume I'd got lost on my way to the grocery store!
Stopped using the themes shortly after they were released. The top/bottom sections take away too much screen space, making it feel cluttered and claustrophobic.
If Sony want to do themes, they should allow us to pick icon designs, colours and background. They can keep the weird, encroaching top/bottom sections to themselves.
This is largely a symbolic move, and one I'd guess is mutual between Sony and Hulst.
CEOs don't make every single decision within a company, they actually make very few, normally only the very high "critical" ones. CEOs lay out plans for the direction they want the company to go. It's the VPs and Directors that are tasked with getting the company to their targets.
In stepping down (or being removed) as Co-CEO, all that's happened for Hulst is he's no longer able to decide the overall direction and he's no longer seen as "the face" of PlayStation. As head of internal studios, he'll still have the power to greenlight initiatives, cancel games, open/close/buy developers. Just now he doesn't have the public focus on him as a CEO.
"However, before all of that was the Animus Hub. Perhaps better known as Assassin's Creed Infinity, this is the launcher by which you can access multiple Assassin's Creed games at once."
Is this a mandatory launcher? Does it make launching the game convoluted like the Call of Duty launcher does i.e. does it take what should be 2-3 taps of X to get into the game and make it a bunch of menus to navigate with 10+ taps of X? Is this also going to come with the usual launcher bloat and 120+GB install size?
I think the initial media coverage skewered the general public perception of the LA wildfires by focusing hard on the celebrities impacted... You know, the people who could just live in one of their other homes while their home insurance company picks up the bill for a rebuild, instead of focusing on Average Joe who doesn't have other homes and extensive insurance coverage to cover the cost. So good on Sony for contributing!
Finished Last of Us Part 2 last night and I'm torn over it. On the one hand it feels great to play and the quality of life improvements over Part 1 are appreciated, but on the other hand that story is about twice as long as it needed to be.
Undecided as to what I'll start tonight... Maybe Neva. Maybe.
Initially I was interested to see where the Sony Honda Mobility union would go, but Engadget have a pretty damning bit about the AFEELA... something about it costing more than a Lucid Pure, looking bland, charging slower than a Lucid Pure and having less range, referring to it as a vehicle launching 5 years too late to be relevant.

For myself, the realization that tinnitus is constant and never actually goes away was the "ah ha!" moment, as most people with light tinnitus think it comes and goes, but it doesn't - your brain is just distracted by other noises so filters it out.
Re: Final Fantasy 13 Fans Feeling Fantastic About This New Lightning Figurine
Oh Fran...
I mean uhh, yeah, never actually played FFXIII but heard mixed things about it. I suppose a remaster would be worth taking a look at.
Re: Poll: Did the PSN Outage Ruin Your Gaming Plans Over the Weekend?
I've worked in customer service for 20+ years, specializing in de-escalation, so seeing the PSN go down was inconvenient, but I was sure Sony were working on a fix ASAP, losing my temper wouldn't have gained anything (it rarely ever does).
As for the extended PSN subscription time, Sony didn't have to do that, it's a goodwill gesture offered to their subscribers. I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and irrationally demand more, so I'll take it.
Re: Original Dragon Age Writer Responds to EA's Live Service Obsession with Common Sense
Re: February 2025 PS Plus Essential Games Available Now
@Darkri74345 "good" is subjective.
Re: Rumour: Gears of War to Make PS5 Debut with Full Crossplay in Trilogy Collection
But do we get the OG Gears online experience of kids whining about people using the lancer chainsaw, and updates on how their relationship with my mum is going? It'd be 10/10 nostalgia for me if we do!
Re: Sony Issues DMCA Takedown Against Bloodborne 60FPS Mod, Four Years After Release
I think I sucked at Bloodborne when it was 30fps, and I'd suck at Bloodborne if it's 60fps, so no difference to me!
Re: Poll: Are You Buying Forza Horizon 5 on PS5?
Forza Motorsport maybe, as that series always had better car customization than it's direct competitor Gran Turismo (i.e. they're both track racers, although apparently Motorsport is no-where near as good as GT7).
Forza Horizons nah, we already have a gaggle of open-world arcade racers. If I feel like racing open-world, I'll just load up The Crew Motorfest.
Re: PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 Themes on PS5 Will Leave Tomorrow, But Sony Is Working to Bring Them Back
@RegrettableSuperhero my guess would be how it's integrated in to the existing PS5 coding.
Re: New Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Update Live Now, More Cars and Events
It is amusing how bizarre the selection of cars in these updates are. Kaz has said that Gran Turismo is about car culture and the love of cars... Just we were all expecting the focus to be on cars that people actually want, not some random jank like the Honda C-HR S! Like... Damn! If I drove one of those down to the local car meet, everyone would assume I'd got lost on my way to the grocery store!
Re: PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 Themes on PS5 Will Leave Tomorrow, But Sony Is Working to Bring Them Back
Stopped using the themes shortly after they were released. The top/bottom sections take away too much screen space, making it feel cluttered and claustrophobic.
If Sony want to do themes, they should allow us to pick icon designs, colours and background. They can keep the weird, encroaching top/bottom sections to themselves.
Re: PS Plus Essential Games for February 2025 Announced
@dskatter I was going to comment that I think the article is exactly one paragraph short!
Overall, for me, this is a lacklustre month. There is nothing in the lineup that peaks my interest.
Re: Sony's Stocks Fly As Market Responds to New Corporate Hierarchy
Re: Preview: Assassin's Creed Shadows Is the Golden Ticket Ubisoft Needs
"However, before all of that was the Animus Hub. Perhaps better known as Assassin's Creed Infinity, this is the launcher by which you can access multiple Assassin's Creed games at once."
Is this a mandatory launcher? Does it make launching the game convoluted like the Call of Duty launcher does i.e. does it take what should be 2-3 taps of X to get into the game and make it a bunch of menus to navigate with 10+ taps of X? Is this also going to come with the usual launcher bloat and 120+GB install size?
Re: Sony, PlayStation Studios Making Donations to Los Angeles Wildfire Relief Efforts
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 563
Finished Last of Us Part 2 last night and I'm torn over it. On the one hand it feels great to play and the quality of life improvements over Part 1 are appreciated, but on the other hand that story is about twice as long as it needed to be.
Undecided as to what I'll start tonight... Maybe Neva. Maybe.
Re: Random: Sony's Electric Car Encourages You to Flaunt Your Astro Bot Fandom
Initially I was interested to see where the Sony Honda Mobility union would go, but Engadget have a pretty damning bit about the AFEELA... something about it costing more than a Lucid Pure, looking bland, charging slower than a Lucid Pure and having less range, referring to it as a vehicle launching 5 years too late to be relevant.
