@GymratAmarillo not only was it likely that MS was already working on it, merging another 3rd party service to provide a function isn’t exactly desirable and also a bit taboo in Japanese consumer culture.
@Mad001 I’m the exact opposite - I tried Fallout and Elder scrolls and put them all down in less than 5 hours. In my opinion, they just aren’t enjoyable in any facet.
Got Demon Souls on my PS3 at put well over 100 hours into, damaging the CPU in the process.
LoL - this is a hilarious take. A company moves a title to their lowest version to attract more potential to the service as well as the pending sequel and you find a way to complain that it devalues the service of hundreds and hundreds of more games that people are paying just a few dollars for more a month.
I don’t understand. I thought that only the length of the longest Now or Plus on simultaneous pre-existing subs were valuable?
What are the differences from now and a month ago with they released the voucher information for upgrades? If this is a different price scheme then I see a problem but if it costs about what they said, I don’t see the issue.
@get2sammyb I think the vast amount of consumers will care about this at all. I know that I’m still buying new titles regardless of how others have been affected in their stacking. It might be harsh - but they made their bed.
@NomNom wow… I guess making 2 billion in 3 years must be chump change? Respawn is the golden jewel here and it would be in Sony’s best interest to wrestle that studio and their IP away from EA.
It would never happen due to the overall depreciation of EA - but one could dream.
@Keyblade-Dan Guy. Sony made 2.1 billion in 2021 from live service elements (included micro transactions) and DLC. Who is to say that the PS audience doesn’t want more.
I have platinum’d almost all of their AAA single player games and I love them. But my top 3 PS titles in history with regards to hours played are Apex > Destiny 2 > FFXIV.
@Juanalf no it’s not. He’s saying the way you spend money to engage in a companies service, with integrity or not - the onus is on the consumer and not the company if the said purchase boarders in the grey. Pretty simple.
The consumers upset were trying to take advantage of the company good will by making the offer to start. So by trying to take advantage and getting burned - entitlement leads one to analyze the situation as unfair, or have been deceived or something else petty. We are not looking through a lens of entitlement and saying just desserts. The difference here is that he had it locked up and I tried to use a PS card yesterday and couldn’t. 100% my fault - but I don’t think it’s wasted because I’ll get a few months to try the service and see what happens.
Players need to grow up, and wistfully spend money if it’s disposable.
The world in HFW is exceptional. The environments and smoothness to the biospheres and how the machines interact are next level. The voice acting, gesture capture and sound effects are reward worthy. But everything wasn’t as satisfying or memorable as the first game.
The combat isn’t better - it’s not polished either. Ghost had the legends mode because of the different specs and builds you could make (like real stealth). Horizon falls into a bland attempt which is hindered by the combat cycle of breaking an enemy with it’s weakness SE and then using either a valor surge or spike to quickly finish them off. No need for a build - you could do a lame stealth attempt at clearing outposts/camps but it’s pale in comparison to ghost.
Don’t get me started on the overrides - they put all their eggs into mounts. I challenge you find the campsite where there is a TremorTusk, Apex Clawstriders and Scorchers all in a 100m or less proximity - override the scorchers or the tusk and watch them stand at an invisible boundary and won’t attack unless you kite the clawstriders right up to them. Same with the two ravengers next to the shellsnaper at the beginning of the desert (they won’t even walk over the small hill) - pathetic actually when I have a dozen or more instances I can name off the top of my head. They felt awful compared to the first game.
Now, the enemies are so cool but they all fall under a big problem - not truly diverse. As they will signal an elemental attack or lunge on a tether to the player through roofs or around and over cover - it’s a joke if you’ve been playing the tower in Returnal. Same with their projectiles, TremorTusks can throw rocks through their own body if you get to their flank fast enough, same with large humans. It was so easy and boring to kill Slaughters, Sitherfangs, Dreadwings or Tiderippers that you don’t truly feel that same peril as you did fighting Thunderjaws in the first game.
Then there is a huge complaint that many people have - so many levels and pacing is so off that it’s clear that they made it to coincide with story progression (in an open world game) I’ve never been max level so early in the game. I got the plat with with almost 40k shards. This is an issue with trying to make an overly accessible game.
Music is repetitive and completely forgettable, I stopped caring about records or any dialogue outside the main story, it wasn’t compelling at all. And I didn’t do that with Cyberpunk, Mass Effect 1-3, Guardians - all of which I have platinum’d in the last 6 months.
While this is a very good game - it showed me more 7.5/10 type of things while Ghost was a constant 8/9 out of 10. Hell, Arguably the best part of HFW is the graphics and world and I didn’t even stop to take a capture because so many other things weren’t compelling and just there to get through. Plot, dialogue, intrigue all fell flat, combined with less than polished ‘Horizon’ combat, a 7.5 or 8 out of 10 is fair.
So as subject as these things are - I won’t be buying the next Horizon at launch. They lost a day one fan here.
@dark_knightmare2 Meh. I have all those platinums. Horizon was a Ratchet and Clank kinda game. Had something that was perfection and then everything else above average. Returnal, Ghost, GoW, TLoU2, Spider-Man - those games did many things exceptionally.
I thought Zero Dawn was top class on PS4. Forbidden isn’t in my top 5 PS5.
I was a little surprised. I just got the plat for HFW and it was just ok. Definitely not in a Returnal or Ghost class. I enjoyed Cyberpunk and Destiny much more.
@naruball l know what you mean - I’m not into GTA at all but loved Cyberpunk. I think there are a lot more people feeling underwhelmed like myself. I can totally see why these numbers dropped and lost out to the likes of Stranger of Paradise and Fallen Order. I’ve been telling people to wait until they have a PS5 or go for Elden Ring New.
@Max_the_German I really like that analogy. Unfortunately this what happens when you have a very skilled team tasked with making a game for everyone. Did a lot of things real well, better than most - but nothing truly exceptional.
They really, really - reeeeeeeeally dropped the ball with machine overrides, that could have been their thing. Super underwhelming and almost worse than the previous title.
I’m also too old to waste time and I won’t buy another Horizon on launch - at least CDPR made me feel something, and gave me such an experience to throw money at them again.
@naruball well I am a few trophies away from getting the plat in Horizon. I’m trying to speed run the last 10-30% of the game to get to Elden Ring.
This wasn’t the experience I had with Zero Dawn which I immensely enjoyed getting that 100%. For me, the graphics and voice acting / character capture are top notch, but the writing, gameplay mechanics, lore and especially enemy ai are kinda 7/10 here - nothing to write home about.
I even put it down for a week to play Returnal tower / co-op and when I came back, I was like - oh yah - this gameplay isn’t really exciting.
It’s good as an open world narrative that looks amazing if that’s what people want, but it wasn’t as good as or even close to better than Returnal, Miles Morales, Cyberpunk or Ghost on PS5 IMO. I’d put it in the Ratchet, Guardians and Assassins Creed tier.
Sorry reviewer I can’t agree with some of your points here and they’re not really justifiable. This isn’t action based Mass Effect 1 from an Xbox 360 - they won’t change the battle mechanics and part of the difficulty in getting the field you wanted had chance factored into it.
Too much hyperbole, I’ll pass on your reviews from now on.
I think there is an information epidemic going on. I’m getting really bored with complaining from media about it - especially Sony centered. I stopped listening to Podcast Beyond partly because they complained at never getting enough, quality or proper information from Sony for a 1 hour show - like they are owed it - while Sacred Symbols have access to the same information and run 3+ hours every week.
I see an obvious bias in heavily media consumer centric patrons and influencers, you tubers, journalists that require this infinite stream of information to quell, live, strive and repeat. That they assume their disposition is shared across the board.
We’ll get the answers eventually, and make choices.
The aforementioned peeps specifically owe companies like Sony for their jobs / income - not the other way around. Sony could do better, but it’s only hyperbolic in this realm.

I guess the spike is likely due to people in Europe starting to watch because Canada and the USA aren’t competing so it’s up for grabs?

@RBMango no worries bro. I’m buying it day one regardless if they have a big event or show nothing. I’ve played every title - nothing to hold out for.
