Re: Toss a Coin to the Third Season of Netflix's The Witcher

@Ravix I adored the books too, even more than the Witcher 3 (somehow!!).

I guess the main difference between sidelining Geralt in the books vs the show is that he's usually sidelined for a very engaging Ciri-related story in the books. In Season 2 of the show, he's sidelined continually for a mind-numbingly boring side-plot involving Fringilla and Francesa (which exists for some unknown reason). Also, unlike the books, Geralt (as Shogun mentioned) is the clear standout in the first season of the show - moving even further away from that in Season 2 was an absolute disaster!

There's a strong sense of the showrunners trying to fit too much into too little time, too. The interactions between Yen and Dandelion are so cringey in Season 2 - acting like best friends when they barely interacted in Season 1. In a show where there really isn't a ton of space, so much of it is wasted by boring subplots.

And that's not even to mention how they treated the character of Eskel, or completely sprinted past Ciri's time at the temple of Melitele, or all the other deviations from the amazing stories in the books...

As @ApostateMage suggets above, the show really is at its best when it sticks to the source material. But for some reason, the showrunners think they're capable of creating better...

@ShogunRok Completely agree. I thought the first season was really good - but that its main problem was the subplots (that were both confusing and much less interesting than Geralt's story.)

I figured - second season, if they create a tighter narrative, it'll be even better. Instead, there were MORE subplots with even less interesting characters.

I'll never understand show creators believing that they can create storylines that are more interesting than the original author's...

Re: Assassin's Creed Finally Goes to Japan as Ubisoft Takes on Ghost of Tsushima

I don't understand how people don't get the AC vs Ghost of Tsushima comparison. They're clearly very similar styles of games - as @ShogunRok says, they're both 'open world action games set in Japan that feature some kind of stealth-infused gameplay'.

It's like saying you couldn't compare Battlefield 2042 to CoD: Vanguard because one's set in the near future and one was set in WW2 - but you'd obviously compare them because they're very similar games.

As for being disrespectful to Japanese history - Ghost of Tsushima is historically inaccurate in everything from story to weaponry to armour, etc, so I wouldn't be too worried on that front lol.

And seeing as though someone specifically mentioned him - Liam's writing is excellent, I'm not sure what that's about...

Re: Uncharted, The Last of Us' Bruce Straley Making Game Unlike Any Before

@CVCubbington Just because great art has come from stressful/toxic environments doesn't mean that the two have a causal relationship. Correlation != causation. There are plenty of recent examples of outstanding games coming from more employee-friendly studios (like Cuphead).

I get your point, but it's the same logical fallacy as people assuming they work better under stress or near a deadline. I think that the nature of the modern games industry often means that AAA games are almost impossible to deliver in a reasonable time without crunch, but again, that's not proof of any causal relationship.

@Ryany Heavy Rain is one of my favourite ever games, but I can completely see why anyone wouldn't enjoy it. Also, it doesn't matter what Pushsquare or anyone else thinks about the games you like, as long as you enjoy them!

I think it's unfair to say they're unprofessional just because they have different opinions. That's all it is - a difference of opinion. I wouldn't take it to heart.

Re: The Quarry (PS5) - Maybe Until Dawn Was Just a Fluke

Agree or disagree (haven't played it yet), I really, really respect that Pushsquare are willing to go against the grain and give a genuinely honest opinion on games. So few (if any!!) other reviewers are willing to do that nowadays.

Also - disagreeing with a review score doesn't mean the review itself is bad. I think Liam's review here is really good. His opinion is clearly well-formed and thought-out.

A 5/10 (on a 10 point scale) is by definition, bang average. Many reviewing sites don't stick to this, but I love that Pushsquare stick to a scale that actually makes sense, like Games TM back in the day!

Re: PS Plus Could Be About to Land Bloober Team's Catalogue

I don't know much about this stuff, but is there an off-chance this could have anything to do with Bloober Team supposedly working on something Silent Hill related? I don't know how that would relate to Sony exactly, but I feel like there's been rumours floating around for a while about Sony x Konami IP

Re: Oh, Joy! Second Resident Evil Netflix Trailer Sets Up the Story

Would love to see a claustrophobic Resident Evil TV show set in a mansion - with 7 or so episodes. Seems like it would be a great chance to replicate the atmosphere of the earlier games, or even 7/Village.

I'm not really sure who the target audience for this is. Maybe it'll be good, maybe it won't, but I don't really see the point of making a show called Resident Evil that looks more like 28 Days Later

@GorosBat Is that scout log 2!? I can't find it anywhere! I just finished the game and - without wanting to give anything away - I have all other trophies bar the survey ones. Is there a trick to finding scout log 2 in Biome 1?

Although the second part of your comment kinda confirms my thoughts - I feel like the RNG for the platinum is going to ruin my very positive experience with the game.
