Re: Maybe There Is Still Hope for the Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy on PS5, After All

Played through XIII back in the day on PS3, and recently replayed it on XSX. About 1/4 of the way through XIII-2 now. Still enjoying them quite a bit- the battle system was excellent in my opinion.

Probably the last games in the series that were true graphical showcase (although people underrate how impressive the texture work, draw distance and environments are in XVI) and holds up better graphically than just about any game from that era.

I always felt the hate around this game was similar to the hate 2D games got when 3D was taking over. Big open world games were becoming more common, and suddenly being "linear" was automatically seen as a fault.

As someone with ADD who always struggles to finish open world games, I'm glad this narrative is changing 😂

A bit harsh, I feel. I actually thought the combat worked fine. Really not any different than the system in Tales of Berseria. Also, no love for the soundtrack?! Was the strongest aspect of the demo for me. As stated, not enough story to get a solid read on. Almost felt like a reimagining of SO1.

English dub was what I'd expect (I swear the same 10 VAs do almost everything) but has a Japanese language option. I'll give you that it's pretty rough to look at sometimes. The environments seem quite nice, but coming from the animations in TLoU to this is almost comically jarring. Like trying to compare Avatar to a puppet show.
