Re: Director of The Last of Us' Axed PS5 Multiplayer to Start New Studio in Japan

@AverageGamer Druckman is the studio's politician. He needs to spin the company news positive at every corner. Even having Iron Galaxy develop their PC port was considered a "game in development" to him.

Fact is — the last time they released a new game was 2020. The photocopies (remaster/remakes/pc-ports) were spun up by a combination of third party studios and new-hires as part of onboarding. I don't consider any of those as "full projects" by any means.

There's only one "all hands on deck" project post TLOU 2 launch; 2019-2023 TLOU Online.

TLOU Online died at the end of 2023 so that Intergalactic could move out of pre-production.

@AverageGamer nope. As recently as 2021 they're on the record stating they aren't capable of running two full projects in parallel. Lookup the interview if you need to. Title: "Naughty Dog says it’s still struggling with multi-project development." Direct quote: “We don’t have two projects that have several hundred people on them. We have one and then some that are in pre-production, or maybe just creeping out of pre-production, but will have to wait until the main focus has completed before we move everybody off of that project.”

Re: Cancellation of The Last of Us Online Was 'Not a Bloodless Endeavour'

MrMayhem

FFS scale up a satellite NaughtyDog studio that can own the Factions Online project ongoing.

Factions, to this day, still has a rock solid playerbase--proving the audience is there.

Rockstar has given you a blueprint for scaling multiple IPs across multiple studios, under a single umbrella.

The fact that one of Sony's most successful studios is incapable of scaling — means NaughtyDog leadership is simply out of their depths.

Fix the scaling problem — don't abandon the project.

@Pigrotto same here... very thirsty for a good third-person shooter. I've been playing Factions (TLOU) for years. Drop into PuBG every now and then. I prefer graphics that are more true to life, but I'll give Marvel a shot because there just aren't many options out there.
