Makes no sense when it can be played on PS5 already at 60fps. I mean sure okay you can increase that to 120fps and 4K, but who cares about that for RE6? And I say that as someone who actually likes the game.
The mismanagement at Playstation regarding their first-party development this gen has been catastrophic. That they would put Bluepoint, of all developers, on a live-service game is just beyond parody. You can't make this stuff up. People have been begging for a Bloodborne remaster since the debut of the PS5, and they take the perfect team for the job and do this to them. What a clown show. We've been wondering for years what that team has been up to, and now all those years worth of work were for nothing. We won't see a new Bluepoint game until the PS6.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is the single best game in the series, and easily the best racing game that Criterion made after being forced to abandon the Burnout series by EA. Don't sleep on it if you haven't played it!
Disappointed that Ys X isn't even included in the poll considering it was my number two RPG of the year (after Unicorn Overlord). What an incredible action RPG. Trails Through Daybreak was my number three.
This is an incredibly bad look for Falcom only two months after the western release of the game. NIS America must be pissed since this will just flatline the sales of the game. Even Atlus usually gives a couple years after their "vanilla" version releases.
@DennisReynolds You don't need DF to see how bad those games look with it. It was night and day difference levels of bad. And in no scenario should a Pro version of a game look demonstrably worse than the base model version. Especially after a $700 investment and on some of the biggest recent games on the platform. PR disaster is putting it lightly. But sure, keep fueling the "Leave the multi-billion dollar company alone!" meme. It's not a good look.
PSSR has been a PR disaster for Sony. There are far too many games that have needed to gut it or provide the option to do so just to fix them. Truly an embarrassment for Sony. And yes, it's also an embarrassment for the developers of the games with issues. How you could look at your game, think that's okay, and push an update like that out is beyond mind boggling.
This has been such a bad look for Sony and the PS5 Pro. It's only been out for about a month, and it has been a crap show ever since. I have a PS5 Pro, and I genuinely love the hardware, but these games that are giving actual worse experiences than the base hardware, and are now needing to patch out one of the Pro's most advertised features is a marketing disaster for Sony.
Sony needs to get on top of this stuff and work with these devs before these updates roll out. It has been an absolute $&%# show with some of these games. Updates like this are even more stupid when the devs actually remove the previous modes from the game and force players to use the updated worse mode. Unbelievably embarrassing for both Sony, and these developers.
Don't have time to do a full write up for the feature, so I'll just say that Unicorn Overlord is easily my top PS5 game that I played this year. Absolutely loved it!
Nah. I'm not really into portable game consoles anymore due to health issues. They hurt my hands, my back, and my neck. I play my Nintendo Switch in docked mode basically 99.9% of the time.
Loved them when I was a kid, but as an adult, not so much.
While this is nice, I really hope this isn't the new VF game they mentioned in that interview recently. VF5 has had so many re-releases at this point, that it almost feels like they're twisting the knife in fans hoping for a new VF game.
Another pointless remaster. The game can already be played on PS5 at 60fps. And the game still looks incredible. Heck, I played through the game for the first time using my PS5 a few years ago.
The problem is the developers/publishers. Not the hardware. Always has been. There are people here claiming that the hardware is the problem, or a scam, or a beta test. It's not. The problem is the developers. There are also plenty of games that have been improved a lot on the Pro without even having official support simply because the original versions of the game were broken (e.g., Elden Ring, Atelier Ryza 2).
Neither should be eligible. Pure nonsense to even consider that they should be. Remasters especially shouldn't be considered, since they're literally the same game, just remastered. Reimaginings (like Metroid Zero Mission, or the new version of Resident Evil 2) on the other hand are fine since they are different games than the originals.
No real difference unfortunately. Not that I expected there to be one for PS4 games. I'm honestly surprised that the option is even there when it doesn't really do anything in practice. Resolution is exactly the same between the two examples.
@tatsumi I can't speak for myself, since these games are just not for me. But I've always heard that the more you grind in this game, the harder it becomes? So that comment confuses me. I've heard it can actually get to the point where if you grind too much, the game actually becomes impossible to finish.
Agreed. I was honestly taken-aback by just how bad the game looked when I played it last night. It's fun still of course. But man, image quality on this was worse than image quality in Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch! When the Switch game looks better than the PS5 game, you know it's a problem.
I only ever played through the original Dragon Age. It was fun, but I always heard the second game wasn't great, so I kind of just fell off the Dragon Age series after that. Now I feel like I missed so much, that it'd be hard to jump in now again.
Not surprising honestly. With how physical games are treated these days on modern platforms (just a physical DRM key for a game that is entirely installed and played from the SSD), their purpose is substantially reduced in practice. That's also why Switch physical sales are higher, because the games are actually played directly from the game card. They feel like they serve a purpose other than a DRM key.
And to everyone mentioning used game sales. Of course those are a thing, but publishers don't care about those figures in this context since they don't see any money from those sales. They only care about new game sales.
Honestly, I would welcome a shorter RPG. I miss the days when RPGs were between 20 and 40 hours on average. Chrono Trigger is a masterpiece, and it's only about a 20 hour play through casually for the true ending. Final Fantasy 6 is only about 30–35 hours. These days, RPGs seem to average between 80 and 100 hours. Trails Through Daybreak took me 120 hours over the course of 2 and a half months. I still love these games, but they're too long.
This demo was a total mess. There is non-stop stuttering with the camera movement, which was insufferable for my entire play through of the demo. Didn't matter if I was running it in quality or performance mode. Looked very similar to the infamous Unity camera stutter when developers don't bother to fix a single default setting in Unity's tools.
Not yet, because Ys X takes priority for me this month. That game releases in two weeks, and there is zero chance I'd be able to finish Metaphor in time for that.
Mega yikes. It is a super bad look for a first-party platform holder to pull one of their own games from their own service. Sony isn't the only one to do this, but it's always seriously bad when it happens.
@Major_Player Actually I do understand how the business world works. That's why I know that Nintendo literally couldn't keep up with demand, and went to extraordinary measures to do so. After the failure of the Wii U, you don't over manufacture your next console and risk ending up with mass unsold inventory. You do your best to project demand and manufacture accordingly. When demand ends up exceeding what you initially projected, you do everything in your power to the meet that demand. Anyone who claims that Nintendo purposely limited Switch stock to drum up demand is living in an alternate reality. It's bad business, and I suspect that you actually know that, but intentionally try to mislead others for some strange purpose/agenda that only you can shed light on.
@Major_Player Nintendo Switch sales numbers wouldn't be what they are if Nintendo did self-induced shortages to make it look popular and drum up demand. Sometimes, and I know this may shock some people, but sometimes things sell out because they actually are popular.
Honestly, the only thing that really needed changing is the removal of the horrendous fetch quest requirement at the end of the game to unlock the remainder of the game and ending. And it doesn't sound like that was fixed.
Considering the results of this poll, it really does show that the haters are in the vocal minority. More than half of the results are people who already have, or plan to, buy the PS5 Pro. And while the results are certainly not a perfect capture of the market overall (with this being a Playstation enthusiast focused website), it likely shows that the PS5 Pro will do just fine for what Sony expects from it in the market.
I booted up Ryza 2 after this update, and the game is still worst performing game I've ever played on PS5. The frame rate is unlocked and even VRR can't save it. If there were any actual performance optimizations done to it, I sure can't tell the difference. If they actually cared, they would add resolution options or a 30fps cap to help stabilize the performance. As it is, it's distractingly bad, even for an RPG.
What makes these egregious specifically is that they are already available on PS5 and already look and run amazing on PS5. Just the most pointless and unnecessary crap imaginable. Do better Sony.
@TechaNinja Ha, I think you're the first person to ever ask me that question. It's just an old character that I created for an animation I did in my animation class back in college 24 years ago. Edit: Actually checked. It was 2003, so actually 21 years ago.
I enjoyed the game for the first few hours. It really got its hooks in me at first and the time flew by. But it didn't take long for the formula to wear thin for me. To the point where after about 7 or 8 hours, I finally dropped the game and haven't returned to it since.
Does it support 120fps on PS5? I always love it when new retro style games support higher frame rates. It's especially useful for side scrolling games to reduce persistence blur from sample and hold displays.
These games live or die by their characters, and this game dropped the ball about as hard as conceivably possible in that regard. Unless they completely purge the existing character designs and rebuild them from the ground up, there is no saving this.

I'd be interested in this one if it wasn't a free-to-play game. Just make a solid single player game with no strings attached.

Easily Unicorn Overlord for me. It's tied with Devil Blade Reboot as my game of the year overall, regardless of platform.
