@Nowings I would, depending on the updates. If it takes better advantage of the PS5 hardware I totally would. I loved that game and if it supports the devs more then that alone is worth it to me.
@Troubbble I have my PS5 connected directly into my network via an Ethernet cable. I have zero problems on my portal. Without the Ethernet cable (PS5 just on WiFi) I had some jumping and skipping. The network connectivity on your LAN will be much much faster than is required to get a smooth clear video and gameplay. I've played outside my home on my Verizon connection (via phone hotspot) and it was ok but really not great. I've played on a stable connection at work and it performed well. That being said it's ideal use is on the same network as the PS5, at least in my experience. I believe Sony advertises it on their Portal page as a device to use at home. At any rate, a solid low latency connection is required. If you have that it will play like you're running it locally.
Those who want and like the Portal are those that can't be in front of their TV all the time to play. My PS5 is hooked up to a TV in my family room, downstairs. My kids often play games on the TV upstairs. So I can be in the same room as them I use the Portal. Or I play before bed, in bed, if my wife isn't around.
It's really not for everybody, but it is a great accessory that works exceptionally well. If you never have a need to play anywhere else in your home then it's probably not for you.
I use physical discs. I'm curious, will it only let me stream the disc that's inserted? Currently that's how Remote Play works, so I'm assuming it won't change. I'm looking forward to a dedicated remote play device but this will be a deal breaker for me.
@OrtadragoonX I don't understand. It's not useable if you can't use it outside a major city? Just about everywhere you go in the United States has a WiFi connection. Sure, if you're in the middle of nowhere, it won't work. But there are a million other places it will. I'm looking forward to this. I use Remote Play on my MacBook. Works great. It will be nice to have a smaller dedicated device for it. I do hope, however, that Sony is attempting to get a foothold into portable gaming again. If this is successful, which it sounds like it won't be based on the comments here, that they improve on it and add additional features like downloading games locally to play for when people are out in the middle of nowhere.
@Paranoimia I loved it. I played it about a year or so after release, when all the bugs were ironed out. I'd say it's on the list of my all time favorites. I guess the very rocky start but massive following later wasn't enough for Sony to buy off on another one.
Almost every studio releases buggy games at launch these days. I never buy new release games for that reason. I'll let all the day one buyers find and complain about the bugs and let the devs fix the game before I buy it. In fact I never bought this game, per se, I got it free as a PS Plus game. It had zero bugs that I noticed, and the story and gameplay were awesome. It's become one of my favorite games. Sure, I got to the party late, but I got to enjoy it without all the bugs.
@BrintaPap agreed! I have a similar issue. About 50% of the time when I turn my PS5 back on from sleeping the controllers don't connect. So I have to restart the PS5 to get them to connect. I've had my PS5 a year now, and I'm a bit frustrated Sony doesn't have a fix for this yet.
I played this on Stadia with my free sub they gave me once upon a time. The concept and story were interesting and fun. I could hardly play it though because it skipped so bad. I'm excited to hear it's coming to PS. If the price is right I'll pick it up so I can actually finish the story and find out what happened.
I think it's a huge assumption the devs or even Microsoft will cut off development for PlayStation. I'd say even unlikely. PlayStation is the number one gaming console, outselling Xbox consoles since the PS4 was released. The number of CoD players on PS would be a huge cash loss for titles like CoD. For what? To drag players over to Xbox? It's likely not worth it. My own assumption is it's worth it to Microsoft to keep the titles on PS but offer different incentives to the Xbox players, like skins, DLCs, etc. This is all likely irrelevant to Sony anyway. Sony's devs have outsold and outperformed every title these Activision devs have ever created. The only exception may be CoD.
