Our first real look at Tales of Arise gameplay is finally here. In the near eight minute video embedded above, we get to see the upcoming RPG in action — and we must admit that our hype is building.
The gameplay highlights both exploration and combat. The former looks fairly standard, with large, open areas and free movement, but the environments themselves are detailed and show promise. The combat, however, has really caught our eye. A number of battles are sprinkled throughout the video, and at first glance, the new system looks fantastic. It's got all of the flash and style that you'd expect from a Tales game, but there's clear potential for massive combos and crazy team attacks. Simply put, we can't wait to get our hands on it.
While it's difficult to properly discern the combat mechanics and systems from this video alone, fights do seem to be more freeform than what we've seen from previous Tales titles. Each character has a dedicated dodge, and you can jump between party members in the blink of an eye. Actions appear to be limited by the spheres above a character's health bar, but they refill very quickly. Again, it looks great in motion.
Tales of Arise is coming to both PS5 and PS4 this September — a release date was just announced. Here's hoping that we see a lot more of the game over the next few months.

OMG SO EXCITED FOR THIS! finally a release date (sept 10 2021) and some gameplay.
YAY JRPGs!
Looks good to me, if the story is good, I'm in.
Man jrpg is the safest genre to buy, if the story is good then it's worth it at full price because at least you'll get 30 hours of gameplay, I never regret buying jrpg day one
Those graphics looks amazing.and the combat is flashy and stylish.and the story looks appealing so far.i can dig it.word up son
Open desert level looks like Northern Elswyr in ESO. I'm all for it. Can't wait!
I just started Tales of Vesperia Definitive after picking it up in the Spring Sale, and I'm really enjoying it so far. The Tales games are historically hit-or-miss with me, but this? This looks like it may be Day One.
This is the tales game I’ve always wanted...I’m just really going to miss the obnoxious guitar shredding during battles
@Asthmalxrd if you miss or want more obnoxious guitar shredding during battles - make sure you check out the Ys games (if you havent already)
I'm showing up day 1 for this one
@wiiware You said it! JRPG's just seem to have this sort of quality to them, even the lackluster ones.
I think the series needed a bit of a jolt, to spice things up a bit. Will definitely be getting this in September.
Yup, that's 100% a Tales game... Pre-order acquired.
Man I've been waiting to damn long for this game but fine I'll wait until September
Looks different than the initial reveal, but it still looks really good! I've been itching for a good JRPG, this looks like what I've beenwanting looking for.
They're sure taking their sweet time.
This looks amazing! I'm so excited for September!
Not the massive jump I was expecting if I'm being honest, but I'll still be getting it as I enjoy the Tales series alot.
2 minor nitpicky things, which are probably all on me: the transition from encounter to battle is clumsy looking, & the battles should start from the side view, just a thing I'm used to from the series😅 yep I'm a bit odd haha
Too bad you don't fight enemies directly on the map. Hopefully it will play better than Berseria, which had a boring and repetitive combat system.
Sorry but the combat looks exactly the same as the previous tales games. I would not call it "Excellent". If anything I am disappointed it seems it just got a new coat of paint.
I enjoy JRPG games, but they need to step it up as most of them are getting quite stale at this point.
Combat looks alright. I wouldn’t call it excellent by any means since it is most of the same.
Also, please let the story be good this time.
Hi there fellow gamers.
This looks really good.
And that combat system though.... Stylish, cool and precise.
Just the way I like it.
Man, I miss playing Tales of games.
I played last Xillia with Milla Maxwell and it was pretty good.
Can´t wait to play Arise on my PS5 on September.
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming to us all
