@pyrrhic_victory goodness, Deep Down is one game I am really disappointed we never got to see. Talk about a good name drop! I still have hopes for Pragmata though.
@JohntheRaptor well that seems a little pedantic to me but makes sense. I unfortunately do not have the time nor freedom to play like I once could so my reasons to play a game nowadays are determined by pretty broad and hardline strokes. Remakes v remasters being one of them. Thanks for the explanation.
Haven't seriously played an AC since Revelations. Tried Origins but it didn't click with me by the end of the tutorial missions so I put it down. I guess I didn't give it a real chance but I'm afraid my nostalgia bias for the Ezio and Altair games is too strong to make me try again. Hope this does well for Ubisoft's sake. Then again, if not, maybe they'll put the IP up for sale and someone can redeem it. Who knows.
@nessisonett my main gripe with the hobbit trilogy and RoP is it became to "marvelized" with all the CGI. Compared to the practical effects and art of the lotr trilogy, they just seemed like a super hero movie/show. Everything has to be a cash cow now, so no surprise its lost substance. But that's just my opinion, could be nostalgia too, I was a kid when the first trilogy came and loved em!
@JohntheRaptor Not sure if you are joking? It has REMAKE in the title and is a reimagining of the 1997 game. Wouldn't call that a sequel. Not that it truly matters, just a game after all.
I know it says "remake" but does that really mean remaster? I consider a remake in the vein of FF7 Remake/Rebirth, whereas a remaster is TLoU Part 1 on PS5. I figured a remake would have garnered more attention and marketing at an earlier point. Just curious since those two terms are used interchangeably quite often.
I would love to see this implemented in a detective game once it has been polished and can incorporate written material in a seamless fashion. How fun would it be to truly have to investigate and interview people for clues and lies!?
@Retron weren't the bundled PS5/HFW more expensive than the base PS5, by like $50? I'm pretty sure they would count that as a sale since it wasn't technically bundled for free, just at a slightly discounted game price, right? I could be misremembering though so don't quote me on that. The Horizon games are great but I rank the first as a better game compared to the second. Story was more interesting to me, it seemed predictable in the second game.
Here's to adding DA:V to my backlog for FREE* (paid subscription haha) will be awhile before I get to it, just now finally started GOW: Ragnarok. Inquisitions is still one of my favorite games, just hit all the right notes for me.
@Blofse careful buddy, there's a very adamant crowd on here that will call you a capitalist shill for suggesting greed is a cause of this and not the fundamentally evil economic systems that are only there to oppress people. Made a comment similar to yours on another post last week and it got out of hand lol glad to see there are some people on here with me that share a similar perspective.
@clvr I wouldn't call it a capitalist myth but rather an emergent fact. ALL systems are built by man and have their worst and best qualities built in. It's unavoidable, regardless of system. Some mitigate the worst better than others and some multiply the worst at the detriment of others. We should be looking at which systems provide the most benefit while limiting the disparities as much as possible. It's a never-ending process and responsibility. I wasn't trying to be supportive of capitalism over other economies (though I do believe it offers the best options, at least for now) but just trying to point out that there is a more insidious and foundational problem. I am curious to the scientific proof you mentioned. You got a link? Love reading about this stuff (see above "constant process" comment.)
@Th3solution it may be difficult but I hope with its success and the developers handling of all the controversy, quite professionally and successfully done IMO, that it would be less difficult than we imagine to get approval. You are spot on that it would be a huge undertaking to create new school locations from the ground-up though. Would be worth it!
@Th3solution I agree that it will be difficult to add further exploration. The game captured the magic of Hogwarts and the absolute desire to explore the castle that every reader growing up wanted to do. I believe they should expand to other schools! They have laid groundwork for the school in Africa, the books provided two others ripe for exploration, and then you have the Fantastic Beasts references. I love the game, give me more just don't make it live service please.
I love all the blame being put on economic systems here. Because it's the systems that are the problem, not the inherent greed in mankind, that's just a product of the systems surely.
I'm just nitpicking here, but why did you say "grand return" like it's been absent?? It happened last year and wasn't cancelled, so it's not a grand return. Or am I just being an ass?? Probably, but it annoyed me lol
This is the kind of dumb ***** you get when "re-imagining" anything that was produced in a different time for a modern audience. HOW THE HELL IS THIS NEWS!??!?!?
@UltimateOtaku91 This goes for any industry though. I am not trying to minimize the state of the industry but it is hardly unique. In any industry the giants will be able to weather the storm but all the little to medium guys will fall away. I may be jaded or merely lacking empathy but this is the norm, especially for an industry that is a luxury and not a necessity to its consumers.
This isn't enough! Needs to be in the hundreds of millions to make an impact. FTC needs to have a hardline stance on gambling being promoted to kids. If you pay money for a CHANCE at something, it's gambling. On the other side of the coin, parents need to be a lot more disciplined with what they allow their children to pay money for in games. It has to be done on both fronts or it will never succeed.
I love the games, even though the second game's story was sub-par compared to the first, but I am not a fan of all the movie/tv adaptations happening in the industry. Because my first experience was an interactive game, all other experiences lacking that interactivity make it lackluster. That's just me though. It's the same for book to movie adaptations, just never compares to the book. The only upside is that you can produce a movie a lot quicker than developing a game.
@dardel WOAH! I disagree for the first game. Finding all the hidden logs that fleshed out the history really made the storyline feel impactful. Second game, you are spot on! They ruined it with half-baked and predictable villains, the tired contemporary obligation, and lack of innovation from the first game. Great games all around, like you implied.
To be fair here, all the awards ceremonies mentioned are mainly an American affair and do not necessarily command a world audience. You can make an argument for the music awards but the sports are definitely American pastimes. I'd be curious to see how it stacks up to the World Cup. Gaming awards shows have a level of interactivity built into them because it appeals to kids and adults that get to look forward to new games they get to play, not just watch a professional play or perform. I believe that goes a long way. I personally don't watch them live anymore, mainly because I'm busy, but you can be damn sure the next day I am looking up all the new trailers and results.
@Ryu_Niiyama don't get your hopes up. It's entertaining but def not a great adaptation. Uncharted is one of my favorite game series so I may just be being overly harsh.
I knew she looked familiar! Couldn't place her for the life of me, though. The Uncharted movie was ehh but I've never doubted Naughty Dog's storytelling in video games, so def hyped for this game! Granted, I am sure it will be years after it releases before I actually get to it. The ever constant aging of myself is really eating at my time spent gaming.
@UltimateOtaku91 The quickest way they'll get to 95% is by removing the option for physical. I know there is a voice for physical media but when it comes down to it I believe that FOMO will quickly set in and they'll only see a slight slump for a short period in sales. Your own comment speaks to this since you'll still get the PS6, or whichever number they are on when it happens, you just won't get it day one. I hope I am wrong but I'm gonna err on the side of greed and IP control on this one, unfortunately.
The only game related videos I watch are news updates, a la gameranx, ign, push square, etc. I do not understand the desire to watch someone else play a game on youtube, review videos, or walkthroughs.
One of my biggest gripes of the PS5 is the inability to personalize the menu. I loved the PS3 personalization and the PS4s. I want to post my screenshots permanently on the background, not just on the welcome page.
I've always thought of Uncharted before Last of Us when Naughty Dog is mentioned. I am still disappointed in the direction that Druckmann and Straley took with Uncharted 4 when Hennig and Richmond left/were ousted. Thought it was in bad taste to poke fun at the previous three titles mythological/supernatural twists in the late game content. One of the best parts of the Uncharted series were those fun twists. It really felt like playing a fun novel in the vein of James Rollins or other authors like him.
You know the awards show lacks credibility and illuminates the "pay to be included" agenda when Star Wars Outlaws was nominated for a category. That game was categorically bad by every standard and the devs admit to it as much with all the "improvements" they are making that any decent game would have had when it went gold.
@LuXifer that's not what happened. The Embracer debacle has been well documented and it wasn't due to inflated covid numbers. It was due to a pipe dream of billions being invested by the Saudi's that did not happen. They put the cart before the horse on this one and a ton of people paid for it with their jobs.
@AsterZero As an American, never underestimate any political party to use any situation/crisis/platform/emergency/disaster/"victory" to gain more power over the people. Cause when the other party/group wins the elections they too will have that power as well, and you rarely see an opposing party overturn laws set in place previously. No party is a champion of "good" they are all just championing their own good.
Not sure if that old "men" shtick will really hold up anymore. Especially in Australia, as it is pretty balanced, gender wise. We all need to look at the policies rather than make remarks about the gender of the people governing. It brings nothing of merit to the discussion and only introduces divisive rhetoric.
I can't wait for this!! Loved playing Metal Slug with my brother and friends when we went to the arcade or movies back in the day. Tactics games are fantastic too, so it's a blend of two great worlds I love. Was an unexpected surprise when this was announced.
