Persona 4 Golden for me. It released over here on 2012 but I got it and played it on 2013 so it got my vote. It's the best game I played last year across all systems and I played a lot of games. So glad to see people enjoying it. I started my second playtrough on January 1st so that the game would lead to another great year in gaming!
Persona 4 Golden, obviously. I loved every second of it and it`s my overall game of the year (I bought it this year as well). It`s perfect and I really wish ATLUS would make a remake like that for Persona 3.
Well, for me the best PS3 games this year are: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Tomb Raider Bioshock: Infinite DmC: Devil May Cry Beyond: Two Souls.
I haven't played GTA V and I still haven't finished The Last of Us, although I'm closer to it. I'm really curious about Ni No Kuni, but after Persona 4 Golden (my personal game of the year over all systems, since I only played and beat it this year) I already bought a few RPGs from Atlus and can't add one more right now. Maybe in the near future I will...
I'll play Valkyria Chronicles on my PS3. I can't believe I waited so long to start it but it is great! Other than that I'll play Tales of the Abyss on the 3DS and Lego City Undercover on the WiiU. Later today I'll star the second season of The Walking Dead now that the season pass is released.
I'm really loonking forward to play season 2, and I almost downloaded it last night. However, when I realised there was no season pass, I didn't do anything and I won't buy it until it is resolved...
For me, this weekend has been all about Persona 3 Portable and The Legend of Zelda: A link Between World. I'm almost fininhis them both and had a great time so far. I also played a little bit of The Last of Us and I guess I'm ready to go on and finish the story.
I would rather have some PSN games, like Lara Crof and the Guardian of Light, any of the Capcom fighting games, such as Street Fighter II HD Remix. As for ports, I think would prefer the Prince of Persia: Sands of time Trilogy or ICO and Shadow of the Colossus collection... I'd like to play Persona 3 FES too, even if it was as a PS2 classic. P3P made me want a proper remake of it on VIta, though as the story is amazing.
@Sanquine Persona Q really got my attention. If you enjoy RPGs try Etrian Odyssey. They are pretty fun and one of the creators is helping develop Persona Q. SMT IV is great and I also enjoyed a lot Project X Zone, even though the story is weak and the gameplay is a little repetitive. If you never played SMT: Devil Survivor, Overclocked, the 3DS port is great, but it can be brutal. Also, try Fire Emblem: Awakening. It's a fantastic game! On topic: I also have no reason to get a PS4 right now, because I have a lot of PS3 games that I want to finish and that I want to get, specially now that Persona 5 was announced.
I'm really excited for all the 4 Persona games announced, but more for Persona 5, obviously. Second is Persona Q, then Persona Dance All Night and finally the new P4A. I'll most definetely get all of them.
@belmont I completely agree with you. FF always had divisive games (anyone remember FFVIII?), but, for some reason, XIII is under heavy fire. I loved all the games of the series and I only didn't play XI and XIV because I don't have time to invest in MMO. I'm definetely looking forward to Lightning Returns.
@Sonicfan11589 I completely agree with you. I enjoyed the cast and it wouldn't be a good JRPG without a crazy narrative. I enjoyed both XIII and XIII-2 and I'm looking forward to finish the trilogy.
Well, it's one of my favorite games of the year. I bought it at launch and couldn't stop playing it until I got to the end of the story. I want to revisit it, but I'd rather do it on my PS3.
I only played Journey and, although I liked it, I didn't love it as many others did. It was fun and I don't regret buying it, but it's definetely not on my list. The only other game that I also own is Mass Effect 3 that I got with the Trilogy and I'm still making my way trough the first, despite being fully aware that the ending is disapointing.
DmC is really one of the best games i played this year. The action is really fast paced and the action is varied and the combo possibilities are almost endless. One of my favorite games. I also said before that i loved Heavy Rain and i completely agree that every gamer should experience it. As for the others, even though I hear great things about them, specially Far Cry 3, I don't think I'll play them...
I played and completed Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resident Evil 5 and I also loved all of them. MGS4 is probably my favourite game on the PS3 and one of my all time favourites. I never played Oblivion or Wipeout, so I can't say anything about them, except they are probably not for me. Overall, great list!
@JamieO I also have multiple consoles and haldheld gaming machines and there are always a lot of quality titles to play on them. I bought a lot of games on my PS3 that I got 3-4 years after launch so I could find a lot of games cheaper. It's also a challenge to complete them all, so I know some of them probably will never be (I'm loking at you GTA IV). It's also hard going back to games and not remembering much about it. The main reason I didn't advance much in Red Dead Redemption is this. I just don't remember what I'm supposed to be doing to advance the story and I kinda want to start it all over, but I keep telling myself that I will do it when I have enough time to make some real progress, which I'm finding harder to have. On the other hand, a game like Vanquish is intuitive enough so I can go back with more ease, which it will probably get beaten sometime this year. As for The Last Of Us I played a lot when it came out, but I was a little underwhelmed by it (for the record, I don't think it is a bad game, but for me it was a bit overrated) and couldn't bring myself to finish it more quickly. Lately, I've been wanting to get back to it, and I think I will do it soon.
All these game are really good and, with the exception of Killzone, I own all of them. They are really good, but for some reason I haven't got around to beat them, although I definetely want to someday.
I completely agree with the inclusion of Heavy Rain. The game was gripping and I couldn't stop playing it until I got to the end. After I finished I convinced some friends that it was a really good game and, even though they don't like playing games, they played Heavy Rain to the end. About the other games the only one I played was Flower and, while I kinda liked it, it would never be on my top 5 list.
I'm definetely getting both for Vita. I loved FFX and I was almost finishing FFX-2 when this was announced, so I didn't finish it. They're great games and the suspend function for Vita is perfect for RPGs.
I loved Heavenly Sword but I'm really OK if it's a one and done kind of game. Also the story didn't leave much room for a sequel and I like that because it was self-contained. Having said that, I'm much more excited to see how this movie turns out instead of Ratchet and Clank's.
@rjejr Agree with you on all levels. I bought Bayonetta a while ago on the PS3 and loved it. As I haven't read a lot about the differences before I thought it ran fine (I was lucky enough to buy it after the patch). For me, the only thing that makes me think about buying a new system is the exclusives as I can live with a bit graphical gap between systems.
@Squiggle55 I completely agree with you. I always buy my games on my prefered systems, even if they look a bit worse. I never bought a system from Microsoft and always played Sony and Nintendo systems, which are always great.
@Savino Yeah, I know. Tearaway is very interesting and I'm very curious as how it will turn out. I'm not that excited because, although I enjoyed playing Little Big Planet on Vita, I always have a lot more fun playing Mario. But, as I said, this Vita title is definetely one to watch, even if I won't buy it on launch day.
I loved The Walking Dead and I'll get this too. Normally I would wait until the whole season is out, but TWD was so good that I think I won't be able to wait to play this...
Even though indie games are fun, it's the big guns that are going to make me buy a PS4, specially because these days you can get some pretty good indie games on a lot of systems and they don't really need the extra power of a PS4. That's why I'll be waiting to buy the PS4 when there is a big game that I really want, like Metal Gear Solid V or Final Fantasy XV.
I finished Beyond: Two Souls on Thursday, so this weekend, I played and finally finished Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and got to play a lot more of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and I still can't believe that I haven't played it when it first came out as that game is awesome!
@get2sammyb I started a thread commenting this. Being a gamer in Brazil is really expensive and the price they are charging is absurd. I do download more games on my Playstation systems, because, as @eLarkos commented it is cheaper. However I enjoy physical copies a lot more so I end up waiting for price drops on a lot of games. A few games that I can find cheap I buy at launch but it's very difficult to find. I was able to do it this year with Bioshock Infinite (terrific game), The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls (just finished it and thought it was great).
I found Escape Plan horrible. I got it cheaper on the PS Vita anniversary and I skipped a lot of levels just to get to the end as soon as possible, get over it and erase it so I could get more memory back. Sound Shapes is great, but I prefer it on the Vita as I don't see it getting better with a graphical bump, as the music is the best thing about the title. Flower is good, but I don't see myself in need to play it again... As for flow I never played it...
@Gamer83 I completely agree with you. The launch lineup for the PS4 is very weak and the daly of Watch_Dogs doesn't help. I'm glad that I decided to wait a bit to get a PS4 as I still have tons of PS3 games to finish and PS4 isn't backwards compatible.
@charlesnarles @get2sammyb I just hope both systems get a demo so I can at least make a better decision.
