Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Targeting Potential 2024 Release

EvenStephen7

I think a lot of people forget the big reason behind both Xbox and PS4 putting out mid-gen upgrades: the rise of 4K and HDR TVs. When the ps4 launched they weren’t as ubiquitous; the PS4 Pro was mainly built to capitalize on the new tech that a lot of devs were excited for (it didn’t hurt that Sony also made TVs).

There simply isn’t something similar right now in TV or tech, and I don’t know if “slightly more powerful” would be enough — especially when this gen still hasn’t felt like it’s “taken off.”

It’s hard to get people to upgrade to more powerful hardware when the base system hasn’t even come close to its capabilities yet.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Last of Us Season One Finale?

I remember where I was and what I felt the first time I finished the game in 2013. I remember sitting through the entire credits, mouth agape, feeling emotionally gut-punched. I don’t think I slept much that night.

I’ve replayed it many times since then, including after becoming a father, but tonight’s finale of the show finally brought back those initial emotions I had that first night. In some ways the game was stronger, in others the show was, but that might be one of the best adaptations I have ever seen. It’s interesting watching a wider audience ask the same questions from a decade ago — did Joel do the right thing?

I’m not ready for what’s coming in season 2.

Re: Sony Cuts PSVR2 Launch Sale Estimates by Half, New Report Claims

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if you think this is affordable or not. What matters is the general public. I see people saying the tech is worth the cost or comparing it to luxury items like private jets. That’s all well and fine, but if I’m running a game studio am I going to risk going bankrupt by focusing resources and money for the “private jet” crowd? Or am I going to spend it on a PS5 install base that’s significantly bigger and more lucrative?

Thus kicks off a chicken-and-the-egg scenario: big price ticket, but no one committing to games because the audience is too small.

There’s a reason that even some of the biggest PlayStation fans, like the Kinda Funny crew and IGN Beyond, are very tepid on this device. I loved my PSVR1 but support fizzled out abruptly once publishers realized it wasn’t worth the investment. And the PSVR2 is facing an even bigger uphill battle, sadly.
