Re: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter (PS5) - This Is How You Remake a Classic RPG

Drake

Very concerned about the localization quality. The demo's dialogue seemed extremely stiff/dull compared to the original game's translation (coming off almost like an early 2000s anime fan-sub), and GungHo has shown that they don't really care about consistency across the series at all.

People who've played every other game in the series are going to come into this and suddenly be met with terms and names that have been arbitrarily changed for the sake of "being more faithful" despite being kept the same for 12 games, and likewise people are going to start with this game and jump into the others and be equally confused about why things are suddenly named differently. They couldn't even be bothered to get the pronunciation of some names in the English dub right.

Maybe that would make sense if the entire series was getting remade and GungHo got to handle all of them, but Falcom is absolutely not remaking 13 games, and NISA is still the one handling brand new, non-remake entries.

Re: Interview: Falcom President Talks All Things Trails, Daybreak 2, and Kai in Our Biggest Interview Ever

@Yagami I would advise just tackling it one or two games at a time, with breaks inbetween. Most sets of 2 games tell a fairly "complete" story so you'll feel satisfied, while leaving some plot threads hanging for the future.

So you could do:

Sky FC and SC
Sky the 3rd
Zero and Azure
Cold Steel 1 and 2
Cold Steel 3 and 4
Reverie
Daybreak 1 and 2

With Nayuta slotting in just about anywhere (it's not currently directly tied to the other games but could become relevant later).

Re: Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement Backtracked on PC After Brutal Review Bombing Campaign

Drake

People here are REALLY eager to defend the billion dollar company, holy moly.

Was the PSN account requirement announced ahead of time? Yes. Was it also tucked away in a hard to notice spot meaning the majority of players were completely unaware? Also yes. Was the game also knowingly sold by Sony in over 100 countries that would be losing access just a few months later? ALSO YES. Don't even try to pretend Sony is blameless here, they bungled this spectacularly.

There's also the matter of privacy concerns - Sony has shown repeatedly that their server breach/hack protection is almost non-existent, so being forced to make an account for a service that's likely to get hacked again and all your details being out there was not a very enticing proposition to a lot of Steam users. And before you say "but all you need is a username/password", that's only in some countries. For example, some (like the UK) require you to upload a picture of your face or your government ID to make your PSN account. One data breach and your face + username will be out there for anyone to find.

It's been shown time and time again that when gamers don't like something, the only course of action that actually gets a developer/publisher's attention is hitting them where it hurts, namely their income. This has worked on Steam many times before and this is no exception.

But even outside all of this Sony should've known better - every single time a new PC game requires yet another account somewhere there's a massive outcry. Hardly anyone uses the Epic Game Store to buy games, for instance, because everyone just wants to have all their games in one place on Steam. If they'd paid any attention at all the last few years they would've known people wouldn't take this well, especially with them trying to be sneaky about it and only introducing it after they already got everyone's money. A much better option would've been to keep it optional, but offer a small bonus of some kind to those who did make an account.

Re: Kuro no Kiseki Localisation News Coming 'As Soon as Possible', Falcom Hopes

Drake

It's been confirmed "unofficially" for a while already. NISA themselves published Kuro no Kiseki on Steam with no option for English yet - they did the same with Nayuta: Boundless Trails, which'll get an English update the moment it releases on consoles. Durante (the guy responsible for the port) also basically already came out and said it's coming.

Re: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - JRPG Fans, Don't Miss Out on This Classic Character-Driven Adventure

Drake

Fair warning that if you get into the series with Cold Steel, it is an absolute necessity to go back and play the rest of the series before you get to CS3, unless you want 50% of the plot to be completely lost on you. Despite the title suggesting it's stand-alone, this is very much the 6th game in a HEAVILY connected series. CS1 and 2 are relatively light on connections to the other games (Although they're still there, including some big spoilers) but CS3 ties the plot of every single game together.

It helps that they're better games too, of course.

Re: Resident Evil 2 - An Admirable Re-Imagining of the 1998 Classic

Drake

I believe you're misremembering how the zapping system worked. Items stored in chests in the original by one character cannot be taken by the other. Certain decisions you made in the game as the first character you played affected the second character's playthrough (taking items from the armory in the basement, releasing the gas in the lab) but there absolutely was no item sharing.
