@B0udoir I 100% agree. Sometimes having some friction in games is a good thing. When QoL “improvements” make it so it feels like the game just plays by itself, I’m out.
Yup! I played this a lot on Xbox and it was fun. This game was on of the few games that made me hesitant to sell my Series X. So I'm glad to be able to go back in.
I almost didn’t watch it since the previous couple of years were very meh for me. I don’t play a lot of the mainstream games, so I get that it’s not always going to be for me. However, I’m glad I tuned in. Overall, that was great! Some great IPs returning and nice to see some fresh ones! So happy for Team Asobe. I think they represent a healthy developer with a lot of heart. Let’s have more of that in the future of the gaming space.
I'm actually super floored by Koei Tecmo and its subsidary companies. They seem to frequently release great games each year. Perhaps the industry should study what they are doing, because clearly they are doing something different and it appears to be working for them. Their titles are not triple AAA and usually quite niche, but the people that enjoy them.... really enjoy them.
To me, all their games feel incredibly samey. Sony is leaning into a safe formula for their games and for me they are all meh.
I've lost interest in the studios release of games years ago! That is not to slam others who enjoy these games, but because they take so long to make, when they release a game and it doesn't hit with a certain audience, that's a whole group of people not buying your game again.
I'm selling my Xbox Series X, because subscription services just aren't for me and I'll use that money to potentially buy the Portal. I preordered this with hesitance. I can always cancel. But I am curious to see reviews before I commit. I'm always weary of streaming games. I have fast internet at home and my experience with cloud gaming on my iPad is hit or miss even though I have gigabit internet. If it works extremely well, then I am interested. Mostly because I can't play my PS5 in the living room when it's super sunny as my blinds are not dark enough. So my PS5 hardly gets used in the summer months.
I thought it was a great idea initially, but I can’t believe how much having a GamePass subscription has caused stress around my gaming habits. I found that most of the time I just “dabbled” with many games on GamePass and that took away from the joy of really getting into the meat of a game.
So I changed my habits. Unfortunately I still have a years worth of GamePass, but I stopped engaging with it. Now I only buy games when I’m really excited to play it the moment I get home AND can give considerable time to it in the coming weeks.
This has brought me a lot more joy. The only downside is there are a lot of games that have released this year that I REALLY want to play, but I have to be patient.
I just beat The Last of Us during my Christmas break. I thought the gameplay was so-so, but the story and characters were amazing. I would not play a remake because now I already know the story... and that's what kept me pushing on with the game.
@lolwhatno Agreed. After playing Astro's Playroom, I realized how much the Dual Sense can add to games. I was surprised to have a slight brief disappointment when I went to play other games that don't utilize it.
The Activity Cards is also something I really like more than I thought I would. Time is not on my side... so I appreciate the ability to easily check the cards to find something, or to give me a bit of direction.
This is the game that got me the most excited during the State of Play. I really like the art style, music and the gameplay looks fun. I'm a bit bummed that there is no physical release planned for Day one though.
Media Molecule is one of my favourite studios. I love everything they've made.
I had happy tears when I beat Tearaway on the Vita, because the ending was brilliant and surprising.
I'm currently playing Sackboy, and even though there are complaints that it lacks that "creative" piece... I still love it. I think there is lots of creativity in the art. I also can't stop wiggle dancing on my couch as the music just grooves in harmony with the stage.
Since I've just played through Astro's Playroom..... Media Molecule.... PLEASE make another Tearaway game that utilizes the DualSense in interesting ways.

The new Atelier Yumia game is what I am most excited about. I'm also looking forward to Trails in the Sky: The First, which is not on this list.

Re: Poll: Did You Pre-Order a PS5 Pro?
No. The games I primarily play aren't graphic intensive games anyways.
