Re: Capcom Spells Out Street Fighter X Tekken's DLC Plans

DarkKirby

The "Bad things happen if you attempt to play online with people that don’t have access to the same DLC content as you do" is an excuse, false, and completely invalid at that. Mortal Kombat (as well as others) already proved that by asking players to perform a mandatory update to continue to play online, which isn't strange or unreasonable at all for any game with an online mode, players can download DLC characters not on the disk which others can play against but can't use, and it all runs perfectly smoothly.

@SpaceKappa
Right on.

EA and Mass Effect 3 is the same crap. I don't give my money to companies who openly lie to their customers, when caught in their lie, lie again, and try to scam their customers by making them pay more when you didn't put in any extra effort or spend any extra money making the DLC. You removed something that was part of the rest of the game to sell it as "extra content"? And it's vital content at that? Screw that.

Re: Valve Yanks Cross Play from Counter Strike

@Paranoimia

It would not surprise me, as the most popular platform for FPS multiplayer games it intends to hold that dominance and not share it's large user base with people who choose not to pay $60 a year for it.

Re: Assassin's Creed DLC Delves into the Mind of Subject 16

DarkKirby

The video was taken down. Oh Ubisoft. Maybe smartly so, the "Desmond's memories" sequences was the worst part of the game by a large margin. The poor puzzles served no relation to the narrative that accompanies it, not to mention in Desmond's case, the entire narrative was him whining about how bad his life was. I wouldn't want that advertised.

Re: PS Vita Taking Piracy Very Seriously

DarkKirby

The PSP failed on multiple levels, not "because of piracy" like many different companies squarely put the blame on, rather then themselves (which is often the real issue). Short battery life, no 2nd analog stick, rarely and good games. But no, many companies would rather sell a knowingly inferior product and know customers don't have another choice. I'm not buying a Vita because of the Vita DRM. Sony thinks it's making more money by running their "you don't own the system, you're only permanently renting it from us and we could have you arrested at any time for doing something with it we disagree with" policy, then trying to "alleviate piracy costs" by overcharging legitimate customers with overpriced memory cards, but they're not getting my money.

Re: Skyrim DLC Model to be Different to Fallout 3

DarkKirby

Please fix the all of them problems in Skyrim before thinking about working on DLC Bethesda. Are are you just going to stop caring about the bugs and glitches (does not make money, or lower review scores apparently) and work on profiting off of DLC instead like in Oblivion?

Re: God of War IV Evidence Mounts

DarkKirby

Unless Kratos has learned to not be a complete douche, the story is improved so it makes sense, and the combat becomes more diverse instead of focusing on sweeping lots of weak enemies with your 2-3 effective attacks, I'm not buying it. Although that may be the reason people enjoy GoW in the 1st place, while I do not. And I did play 1-3 just so you know.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Need PlayStation 4 Yet?

DarkKirby

If the Wii U wasn't being released there wouldn't bee a need for Microsoft or Sony to worry about a next gen console. But the danger for them lies in if Nintendo chooses to have the Wii U provide a combination of things that currently keeps the consoles separate. Good online service, which the 360 has BUT it cost a ridiculous yearly fee, average but free online which the PS3 has, not restricted developers on what they will allow on their system which Nintendo usually does, and HD graphics.

If nothing else, Sony and Microsoft want to at least have a more powerful system then Nintendo to maintain the power they have over the Wii now. But making the system too powerful will mean it will be very expensive and not cost efficient to manufacture and sell.

Having the most powerful system doesn't mean your console will be the winner of the console war. Most multiplatform games are developed for the 360, and thus work better on the 360, despite the PS3 being more powerful, to make sure it CAN work on the 360, then poorly ported to the PS3, which will always run 360 developed games but not at an optimal level as most developers can't be bothered to make the game run in a way that utilizes the the entity of the PS3's cell processor . If they made games for the PS3 there is a high chance it would not work for the 360, and would have to be downgraded to function.

PC beats every console at everything but no developer really favors it because it's the easiest platform to pirate on.

Re: Feature: PlayStation Vita Launch Guide and FAQ

AT&T? LOL. Enjoy maxing out your data after short media usage and paying insane extra data charges. Sony: let's partner up with a company known for both poor service and high prices! That will certainly make out product more appealing.

Re: Metal Gear Online to Flatline in June

DarkKirby

"We just remember the hoopla surrounding the sign-up process; with Konami IDs and all manner of nonsense surrounding entry into the online service."

Very true this was BS.

The concept of the game was great, but it's downfall was extremely poor balance decisions and nothing done about the rampant cheating (lag switching), which was EVERYWHERE. Entering a room where people were not cheating was difficult. And hosts would REFUSE TO KICK CHEATERS AS LONG AS THEY WERE ON THEIR TEAM. It had the Call of Duty problem where people were OBSESSED over their "stats", and you were literally judged over them and people would kick you from their team if you're kill/death ratio wasn't high enough. As such people would do ANYTHING to boost their statsm which often resulted in cheating, and hosts not kicking cheaters who were on their team. People would constantly switch teams if they were on the losing side, resulting in either lopsided teams with 7 vs 3 or all the good players/cheaters on 1 team (with the host) making the match extremely uneven. And the constant whining and hatred about CQC when CQC was one of the WORST skills in the game to choose, and was only chosen pretty much "for fun" because knocking out people with physical attacks was funny, similar to how people in Call of Duty whine and cry about being killed by a knife user when it is woefully less effective then guns, which resulted in CQC being nerfed into garbage because Konami didn't bother understanding the balance of their own game and just gave into the whining on the forums.

Re: Sony: Publishers Need To Think Carefully About PS Vita Pricing

DarkKirby

While I love cheap prices the prices for (well made) full length games are fine (excluding the scam of DLC for purchase near or at the release date for games that could have come with the main game but were left out on purpose to be sold as DLC, but that's another discussion entirely). I actually DO NOT understand the appeal of games like and also specifically Angry Birds. I downloaded Angry Birds on my Android after hearing and reading everywhere how fantastic it was only to discover how its quality, originality, and entertainment value pale in comparison to most high ranking Newgrounds games. There are 100s of "fling stuff to knock down stuff" games there already, and Angry Birds is nothing special. In fact, while I love my Android phone, rarely any phone game I've seen or played even comes close to providing a game remotely close to the quality of many original Game Boy games, and as previously said, high ranking Newgrounds games, which I remind you, are often developed by a single person, and then distributed FOR FREE, not some "amazingly cheap price of $5 or less", FREE. Every time I read an article or hear people say that people who play phone games like Angry Birds are "gamers" (casual or otherwise), claim to be knowledgeable about games in general, the gaming industry and what is has to offer based on said phone games, and companies like Sony, Nintendo, and other non phone game developers are "going out of business because they are unable to make fun games for $5 like they have for their phones", it makes me want to slap them because of their extreme ignorance in the subject of games they consider themselves experts on because they play lots of phone games. The ignorance is deep, with many non game focused news and media outlets spouting the same garbage of how "phone games are the future and are putting all other types of games to shame as well as out of business" and "why would I pay $50 - $60 for a game when I can pay under $10 and get a similar experience on my portable phone and tablet (the latter of which isn't really that portable in my opinion)", all written by people who never played through a single (well made) modern, or dated for that matter, full length game in their life, and do not intend to ever give them a try. The experience you get from (well made) DS games alone so extremely different, and better from that of a phone game that's supposed to be a deal at > $10, they aren't even comparable. You are actually getting a much better deal for most well made games at $40 - $60 then you ever could actually paying for phones games that are often trumped by Newgrounds games that are provided FOR FREE, that I would consider any phone game that isn't free a RIP OFF.

Re: Review: Red Dead Redemption (PlayStation 3)

DarkKirby

@cyphid

Personally, I would say Bethesda makes some of the best open world games out there (despite how they apparently out right don't bug test at all), but what really makes them shine are mods. Oblivion and Skyrim are pretty average without mods, and fantastic with. I still think Oblivion is better then Skyrim at everything except combat.

Re: Review: L.A. Noire (PlayStation 3)

DarkKirby

This game started out really great as a murder detective game, but it got worse as you kept playing. I would give the 1st 1/2 of the game an 8 and the 2nd 1/2 a 3. I know the realistic scanned faces is innovative, but I personally found them ugly and creepy.

Re: Uncharted 3 Up for BAFTA Game of 2011

DarkKirby

Voted Skyward Sword. Why?

Batman: Arkham City: The story didn't make sense at all, and I'm not a fan of the combat or the art style. I know many people enjoy the combat, I do not.

Battlefield 3: Great PC Multiplayer, poor single player, overall average game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Incredible disappointment all around and I will never buy another CoD game again. Another game that promotes Kill/Death ratio above all else even in objective games. Support Class has no good rewards and is made useless by Assassin Perk.

FIFA 12: I don't buy sport games that try to be realistic.

LA Noire: Started out good as a murder detective game but the game got worse and worse as you kept playing until it was downright terrible and incredibly boring. I'm not a fan of the "realistic scanned faces concept" either. Rather the realistic, the faces ended up ugly and creepy.

Minecraft: Very fun... with mods and player made content. Fun without as a survival and construction game (I made myself a castle) but mods and player made content really make it shine as a game.

Portal 2: Good game, nothing that special though.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Fantastic with mods on PC, average without. Also, Bethesda is apparently intent on never bug testing their games at all. The lists of bugs and glitches that matter are huge.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword: The character designs and personalities are amazing, the game play is fun and varied, the places you explore are amazing, there are some hiccups in the UI but nothing that ruins the game. I find myself smiling all the time while playing, just talking to people and listening to their responses, and eager to see what comes next.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception: Uncharted 1 and 2 were fantastic, 3 was utter garbage. It pretty much took out everything that made 1 and 2 good.

Re: Celebrate Valentine's Day the Right Way with Gal Gun

DarkKirby

@Yankeejer
1st, American media obsesses over violence and it is overall seen as "acceptable" and "sex, especially of people under 18" as forbidden and heavily scrutinized. By your logic that means there is little to no violence in America and sex is everywhere, especially with people under 18, and accepted. When it's quite the opposite.

2nd, this game was developed for and played for "the lols". While Japanese culture is overly more accepting of sex in media then America the fact that this game is allowed to be developed and sold does not prove that Japan is obsessed over such a thing, more to how they are open minded enough to allow this game to be developed and sold and not have a nation wide media blow out about how this game is attempting to train people to do naughty things to school girls, which WOULD happen in the US. Microsoft, being an American company, actually demanded the 360 version censored, even as the game is only released in Japan.

Re: Feature: Must-Have PlayStation 3 Games - Sammy's Picks

DarkKirby

Uncharted 2>1>3.
2 was amazing other then the extremely crappy ending.
1 was an amazing adventure only topped by 2.
3 was crap. The story was terrible, none of the places explored where that amazing, the puzzles were poor, climbing challenges are non existent, and the ending is EVEN WORSE then 2. You thought the mysterious "amazing thing" they were chasing in 2 turned out to be extremely lame, you will repeatedly face palm at 3's.

I played God of War 1-3 and didn't particularly like any of them. I find it hard to get into a game where you are very much not even an anti hero, but much closer to a bad guy fighting other bad guys for equally selfish reasons. The story made a reasonable amount of sense for 1 but for 2-3 that all went out the window and the story didn't make sense at all. The combat system was boring and repetitive and the puzzles horrible. Sure you have different weapons and different attacks, but it usually boils down to 1 or 2 combos for each weapon that are good and the others completely sucking. 3 specifically had all the "gods" so weak to even call then "gods" would be extremely questionable.

Want a good action game play Bayonetta.

Re: Hirai: "Sony Can't Go On Like This"

DarkKirby

Here's how you don't succeed. Piss off your costumers by making it so the system you sell people is not owned by them, and is technically a permanent rental which you at all times hold the right to say the purchaser broke the law by doing something you do not approve of. And supporting crap like SOPA and PIPA (not that Nintendo or Microsoft were any better). Going around the internet claiming everything fans are doing to promote your products and show their love for them are violating your copyrights and demand them taken down.

This is how you DON'T succeed Sony.

Re: Review: SoulCalibur V (PlayStation 3)

DarkKirby

One of the things that is widely praised about this game compared to other fighters that you missed mentioning is the game's amazing net code and online lobby features that no other developer has even attempted to do. I agree the lack of story is a bit disappointing though, even if the online is possibly the best online for a fighter ever developed.
