I’d been on the fence since it launched, but I decided to finally take the plunge too. Between Sony working out the kinks with PSSR and the massive price increase, I figured if I don’t get one now, I never will. Given that the PS6, whenever it releases, will likely cost even more, I think I’ll stick with the Pro until upgrading becomes absolutely necessary. If this console cycle has been any indication, cross gen will last a long time next go around.
@LowDefAl Oh, I’m not surprised by any of this. There was never a reason to think that Sony wouldn’t do both; monetize their existing customers more AND raise hardware prices. People will still buy consoles, even if at a diminished rate.
@trev666 The console launch of The Witcher 3 was also bad. I remember weeks of patches before being able to comfortably dive in to the game. Hell, the opening cutscene was broken on Xbox One day one.
What’s everyone on about? A 7-8 is what, good to great? From everything I’ve watched and read, if you just want to lose yourself in a world, this game checks all the boxes. A lot of its features come across more as a “kitchen sink” situation, but not every game needs to have the depth of a Witcher. I’ve seen some people bring up Skyrim, and if anyone thinks that game has a story with depth… woof. It’s just set dressing to explore the world Bethesda created. You could add BotW and TotK in with it too.
And this is why Sony and other companies keep chasing the live service dragon. They all want to make the next big thing. Executives see the success of Roblox, Fortnite, and other popular live service games, and their eyes turn to dollar signs. They’ll try again and again, burning the goodwill of their customers and upend the lives of developers at the studios they end up closing, because in their minds, they only have to succeed once.
@SMJ What? No competition is actually bad? But all the people I’ve seen cheering the fading of Xbox into irrelevance assured me that only good things would come from Sony being the only player in town! (Nintendo is their own thing, so they don’t really count)
Just because I didn’t see it mentioned in the comments or article, according to Xbox Wire, you get this version for free if you purchased Gears of War Ultimate Edition any time before today in the past decade. Granted, that’s probably not many people here, but if you also have an Xbox or PC, it’s a nice perk.

@get2sammyb Wasn’t there an article earlier this year that reported on Sony shifting priorities to monetize their existing user base?
