You may recall a game named Star Wars Eclipse, a narrative adventure game announced several years ago. Well, according to a new report, that game is still nowhere near complete.
Insider Gaming reports that it's heard from several anonymous sources about the current state of the game, and despite being in the works for a long time already, it sounds like it'll be a good while yet before it's done, and that's if it ever makes it out.
The development has been described as "very slow going", with one source saying the dev team had made "very little progress over months."

"The game, at this stage, is still looking to be years off from completion," a source told the publication.
It sounds like there was talk of expanding the team, but the studio's owner, NetEase, didn't want to invest in more staff at the time.
Apparently, both NetEase and Quantic Dream are pinning their hopes on Spellcasters Chronicles, a free-to-play, team-based multiplayer game that's currently in Early Access on PC. It's hoped that this title can earn enough revenue to help fund the development of Star Wars Eclipse.
"At this stage, the long-term outlook is less driven by creative capabilities and more by financial viability," a source said. "Should Spellcasters fail commercially, NetEase is expected to reevaluate its commitment to the studio and could opt to discontinue further investment."
While Steam's player count charts aren't the be-all and end-all, they can show how a game is generally trending; at the time of writing, Spellcasters Chronicles has 45 people playing.
Star Wars Eclipse is a project being made by Quantic Dream, the French studio behind the likes of Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain.
It was officially announced in December 2021, and there have been almost no official updates in the time since. According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the game consisted of "literally nothing" when it was revealed.
In October of last year, Quantic Dream said work on the game "continues" and that it's "eager to share more with you in the future."

Might as well hope for winning the lottery twice over if they're expecting Spellcasters of all things to fund other projects.
Sounds dead to me. Pretty much like Star Wars in general.
Sounds to me like Quantic Dream’s days of being a studio are numbered if they’re banking on a F2P title, given that their fanbase isn’t really live service based at all. I really don’t understand how so many studios this generation have forgotten how to make games their base wants to play. I’d imagine people WOULD want to play Eclipse, but it sounds like the team isn’t producing results.
I love Heavy Rain and Detroit, bought the latter at launch. Such an unforgettable experience. Quantic Dream are always slow, probably one of the reasons Sony let them go. That plus their games are difficult to make sequels.
This lack of funding and David Cage bad reputation won't help this game see the light of the day. It showed promise, and exploring the High Republic era was a plus, but I don't believe Eclipse will launch anymore.
Like the KOTOR remake, I don’t see this game ever shipping. All these games that get announced 5 years or more in the past with no actual gameplay to show reach a point where they’d need to hit GTA levels of success to ever be profitable. Hell, think of the marketing budget alone, which at this point wouldn’t even be a factor! Publishers will want a return on all the dev time costs, and if we’re talking about a game taking nearly a decade to ship, who would continue investing in that?
They started this so long ago that people still liked Star Wars and this seemed like a good idea.
Its QD so it will no doubt be shallow dog poo designed for those who feel smart when they watch a Zack Snyder film.
Since there's no games coming out in the near future they could give us 4k 60 fps update for Detroit become human.
“To determine whether to create this game from one of the most profitable IPs on the planet that’s in a genre the developer has created in for over 20 years… we are going to see how this new game based on a new IP from the studio in a genre that they’ve never done before performs.”
Who runs these companies?
NetEase and Quantic Dream's typical, historical output were never alligned, and being acquired by them was always going to be a death sentence.
If QD aren't able to give them a reasonably sustainable live service cash cow, they'll be shut down long before they put out another choose-your-path narrative game, Star Wars or otherwise - and suffice to say, the outlook there is already bleak.
"Nearly Half a Decade Αgo", so like 4.5 years ago?
"are pinning their hopes on Spellcasters Chronicles"
ehhhh that's a bi uh-oh from me
@somnambulance
Might be because the games they used to make have become to expensive or unsustainable, due to expensive voice actors and motion capturing. For example Quantic Dream games, which have branching stories: They would spend high effort/budget on parts of a game that only a fraction of the players would see.
to be fair Quantic dream publish alot of games now they just dont make them as much
