Re: Sony Takes Social Media Time Out After Controversially Killing Physical Games

AstroFennec

I’m about to rant here and that’s all I’m doing, I’m not interested in having an argument with anyone

We are allowed to be angry about this, no don’t sent death threats to people, but if you feel angry express that.

People being angry is a good sign, it shows we still care. I’ve been gaming for a long time and I’ve seen Xbox fans get more and more apathetic with each disappointment since the Xbox One disaster. Maybe our anger won’t change anything but at least we still care to try.

I’m done with seeing people who are digital only say, “well I don’t care, it doesn’t affect me”. Yes it does because prices will go up even more because what’s stopping them.

I’m fed up hearing “well PC is digital only and has been for years” yes and, that’s what I don’t like about it. But also there are multiple storefronts on PC, that forces competitive prices.

Also yes I saw this coming, all the talk of a possible handheld had me knowing that this was coming sooner rather than later but I hoped maybe we’d get one more generation of physical media.

I’m not naive, I know Sonys has never been a corporation that’s wanted the best for us, they’ve a history of scummy practices, just look at the history of the CD, but I miss the days of them having any real competition in the gaming space because at least then we benefited from them pretending to care.

The death of the second hand market is one of the worse aspects to all of this. Yes so I buy a second hand game Sony don’t profit from that but, they actually do. I bought Lies of P for £7 from CEX from a couple of trade ins. I fell in love with the game and so I bought the DLC from the PlayStation store and I’ll be buying the sequel. I’ll trade in games to have enough funds to buy a new release where I might not have had enough money to do so at the time.

I don’t know whether or not I’ll be buying a PS6. But knowing what it’s likely to cost I’d have probably sold my PS5 to lighten that burden but if there’s no disc drive in that PS6, I need to keep the PS5 to play my PS5 and PS4 games but I’ve also got a PS3 wired up to play my PS1,2 and 3 games. So what will I have to have 3 different PlayStation systems set up.

I’ve ranted on twitter, on the PlayStation blog post, e-mailed my MP about consumer rights and now on here because I feel like a hobby I was introduced to by my Grandad, that I grew up with is being destroyed by corporate greed from both in and out side of the gaming industry. I know it won’t do anything but I’m angry and if you care about this hobby you should be too.

Tomb Raider (2013) but I’ve spent most weekends this year playing a Tomb Raider game. My aim was to play through all 12 games this year but over the last month or so I’ve been on a roll, completing Tomb Raider Revelation, Chronicles, Angel of Darkness, Legend, Anniversary and Underworld
