Still, the range of quality music, low price and typical SingStar options continue to make the franchise a success — if not a somewhat niche one these days.

There's something wrong with you if you don't like Motown. A glory era in the age of pop, the Motown record label is synonymous for producing excellent pop record after excellent pop record. This latest installment in the SingStar franchise glorifies all that is Motown, and when you have a music collection consisting of The Supremes, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder — it's really hard to treat the actual game as the main attraction.

SingStar: Motown is no extension of the SingStar experience you're familiar with in other Playstation 3 titles. There are a range of singing options — duet, battle, etc — along with the community aspects that have made SingStar such a social experience. You can still use the Playstation Eye to capture your performance, upload that footage to the SingStar community and just generally hang out with an online network of players. There's also complete access to the SingStar Store, allowing you to download over 850 alternative tracks.

With Rock Band and Guitar Hero ruling the living rooms these days, it's interesting the way SingStar has stepped aside and filled a niche. With the afore mentioned titles dominating a more "rock and roll" mentality, it's nice to see SingStar continue to chug along with the pop anthems that make karaoke fun in the first place. We agree, rocking out to generic rock bands with a range plastic instruments is fun — but that doesn't undermine the show-stopping spectacle of warbling your way through "Stop! In The Name Of Love" with your Mum.
