Spider-Man 2 Gets Enhanced PS5 Pro Support Today, Plus New Suits

Perfect time to swing into it since it's on PS+ extra tier

It's still crazy how good the photomode looks. Also look forward to reading about how PSSR2 improves the game

Have to say, I do like the Tokon suit quite a bit. Will look forward to using that when I get around to doing my NG+ playthrough.

I was thinking about doing a bit of swinging around New York later.

Might play Spider-Man 2 afterwards and check these suits out.

Insomniac makes some of the best looking games, period.

Wish they'd add these suits to the OG game. That was a great game, this one was absolute trash.

I‘m rather interested in the Power Saver Mode. Not to use it un my PS5, but as an indication of how PS5 games would run on the rumoured PS handheld.

More specifically: Will it run games like Spidey 2 with 30 or 60 fps?

I’m a snob and unwilling to play on 30 fps any more. And with almost all games on PS5 and Nintendo games on Switch 2 targeting 60 fps, I think I‘m not alone.

An 800 euros PS handheld for predominantly 30 fps gaming would be very hard to swallow.

@ElPenitente I had no.idea until just now that there was a "bandwagon". I just found the game (specifically the story) to be a joyless slog with far too few meaningful improvements over the excellent Part 1.

Don't know what they did wrong but they caused a lot of flickering on building rooftops now. Hopefully they fix this.

@Hoff People love to go OTT with statements. The story isn't great sure the bigger open world, more time of day options, two Spidey's, more suits and more travel options blow the first game away.

@LN78 gameplay surpasses the original in every way. 2 playable characters with unique movesets, being able to glide all over Manhattan for starters was a massive improvement and not to mention the combat felt tighter and more responsive.

Gameplay is king and Spider-Man 2 wears the crown.

@ElPenitente In these sorts of games (and especially sequels) the story has to be good to motivate me to keep playing - maybe due to overfamiliarity with the gameplay mechanics. I felt the exact same way about Horizon Forbidden West.
PS I should point out that I also really liked Miles Morales (the game and the character).

Been back to this game 3 or 4 times and drop off it every time for some reason. Maybe this'll give me a reason to finally try and finish it!

Sheesh therefore Spiderman 2 is the first Sony first party game with a dedicated update that mentions the enhanced PSSR in its patchnotes.

@danzoEX yes, the ever ongoing confusion.
The game for sure had pro support from day 1 and also PSSR. New PSSR was available by the system toggle but now it’s “baked in” with this patch. You most likely won’t see a noticeable difference but nevertheless it’s nice that they added this in this patch.

@AI-Generation it most likely will look the same as before with the PSSR system toggle on. It’s now just baked in whatever your system setting is.

@AdamNovice The game is not bad but some characters don't look like their comic counterparts and the story is indeed "modern audience trash". Still, I can ignore both of those issues and web slinging in the city is fun.

The Tokon suit looks great, reminds me a tiny bit of the Ben Reilly Spider-Man suit, which I always hoped they would add at some point. If I had a fancy TV and a PS5 Pro I daresay I'd be revisiting it, great game.

Personally, I thought SM2 was Miles (Pun intended) better than SM1.

I suppose you could argue that the core storyline in SM1 was a tiny bit better in places, but I just felt the execution overall throughout the game was much better for SM2.

The Side quests were far better in SM2, in the most part, and I found the new map areas to be a vast improvement over those carried over from 1.
Technically, SM2 was a modest improvement over MM, and a bigger upgrade from the PS5 remaster of 1.

My only criticism is that the symbiote enemies tended to be too spongy, but they didn't overstay their welcome like some of SM1 did.

Cos I only resumed it today after the slogfest that became Ragnorak. I think everything becomes at risk of a slog when you build up a big installed backlog… SSD expansion was that devil in disguise all along, I’ll stick with only whatever the dashboard will permit.

I bought Spider-Man 2 on sale, played the opening bit, and got sidetracked on other things. I meant to go back when I picked up my PS5 Pro (but didn't, for more than a quick look around), and recently I've been thinking of going back again.

I've played very little of the story and will need to start over. Probably worth doing before Wolverine drops.

Yes! I replayed the game last year when I got the Pro and I got a new tv a few months ago, so I do want to see this new update.

@AdamNovice I don't hate it, but like many others I found it to be a disappointing full sequel to the first game/MM for a variety of reasons including the story and technical issues at launch.

I'm glad Insomniac are giving Spiderman games a rest for a while to focus on other Marvel IP.

This game was a complete slam dunk, not perfect but still amazing. Insomniac gets so much hate and with that data breach as well, heart goes out to them.

Story wise the first game was literally perfection, the second is not, not awful but nothing more than a 6.5/10. But we get some cool moments. I think the gameplay is enough for me to love the game. And Venom.

The tokon suit looks so good until you see it without the mask and it just looks hilariously photoshopped lol
