A trailer has been doing the rounds for a game known only as Project Espresso, which is the codename for Sony's live service multiplayer shooter, Fairgames.
Fairgames — which might have changed its name to Break In — was announced during a State of Play years ago, but we've heard nothing about it since.
Now, a trailer for an upcoming playtest has emerged online for Project Espresso, which is known to be the codename for Haven Studios' shooter.
The video comes via Player.gg, a site where people can sign up to playtest upcoming releases. The site claims to have exclusive access to the Project Espresso playtest.
It describes the game like this:
"Project Espresso is a third-person PVPVE competitive action game where competing teams race to infiltrate high-security locations, steal valuable cargo, and make it out before their rivals."
This lines up with what we already know about Fairgames — a PvPvE shooter about pulling off heists.
The pre-alpha gameplay in the trailer is captured on PS5 Pro, further cementing this is in fact a playtest for Fairgames.
I think this new trailer is a much better look at what the game is than its initial reveal. Obviously, not everyone will be into a competitive extraction game about robbing vaults and making off with the cash, but for what it is, it looks pretty good.
If playtests like this are happening in the near future, I expect it won't be too long before we see the official re-reveal of this game — maybe early next year.

Sony's PR has been on a roll it seems...
Woah was hoping fairgames was dead hopefully this fails bad seems sony never learn there they are heading for a massive fall and fully deserve it
The project is named Espresso because it's short lived, tastes bitter and can initiate bowel movements.
Oh sweet. A new Concord-like. Can't wait.
God speed, they are gonna need a hope and/or pray for this to succeed.
If theres one thing I have learned from Playstations live service initiative, its that PushSquare saying it looks good and/or telling everyone to ignore the haters, is the literal kiss of death and this game will fail spectacularly.
Honestly, this doesn’t look bad at all. Sure, I could easily sit here and go, “***** this *****, this is going to be a disaster…” 😂 But nah, I’m just being honest: this actually looks way better than I expected. I genuinely didn’t think I’d be saying that.
You never know, this thing might be a sleeper hit with general audiences. That's why they keep making them after all.
Only thing is, the game must be free to play. Launch it at £30 or whatever and it's DOA.
I have zero interest in either this or most MP games, but we'll see how it fares
I think it looks a lot better than it did, and finally realised gameplay, but it still looks like a generic Unisoft shooter that I have no interest in playing
So it's like a bigger Payday without looking like a PS3 game - i'm down.
In with positivity before the babies arrive.
The game look fire because a lot of you guys suck at mp doesn’t mean Sony shouldn’t make any mp games.
.
That actually looked a lot better than I thought it would. Something a bit different to the usual extraction shooter. Size of the map and an engaging game world could make or break it. Oh and the price.
Might try the playtest and give it a fair shout.
I would like to add that yes the game play itself actually looks alright but once it got the stain of internet discourse on it then it's battle shall remain uphill
@Czar_Khastik Hahaha 🤣😂 you are so sharp dude!
At least Wolverine won't be the lowest rated Sony exclusive for much longer.
@Haruki_NLI When I read that last sentence I genuinely clenched 😂😂
Don't tempt the gaming gods!
This looks Good to be honest!
Concord, killing discs, breaking with Kojima, Hunters Gathering hasn’t been put out of its misery, and now letting Fairgame$ still exist.
Really on a generational roll there, Sony.
@Czar_Khastik This is my favorite comment of yours, of all time. I'm sick at the moment and it hurts to laugh but that one was worth it.
Waiting for this game to come out feels like the video game equivalent of waiting for your terminally ill loved one to finally kick the bucket and gets put out of their misery.
not my type of game but i hope it does well.
NGL, this looks more interesting than I expected. But I don't really play PvP MP games so I'll probably skip it in any event. I'm into PvE with friends or randos - Helldivers 2 had me by the throat for a good long while - but PvP ain't my bag.
At this point game should be in the beta stages and they should just release it as early access so they can see if people actually want it instead of continuing a potential game that's doa.
I don't think it actually looks like the worst thing imaginable. Not sure it's for me, though.
After yesterday’s news that Wolverine is the lowest scoring first party game of the generation, along comes Haven Studios “hold our Beers!” I definitely think this looks way better than the original Fairgame$, but that looked absolutely horrific in trailer form so anything is going to look better than that, but even if this was the best ever live service game in the history of gaming, with how bad Sonys stock is tanking right now, it will fail massively.
I'm not going to play this but I don't think it looks bad
Can't tell if it looks enough cause I'm not really into this genre of gaming and don't even know what it's supposed to compete with.
At least that trailer is better than the 1st one, so theres that I guess!
Game of the Year - trust me. 😉
Weird that PlayStation didn't include this trailer during last week's State of Play. Seems a bit like they want to distance themselves.
It does not matter what Sony does nowadays. People will crap in it no matter what.
If it's not F2P, it's DOA.
If it's F2P, it's still DOA.
The Concordian Timeline continues.
I think some people in here are just hating to hate.
I don’t think the game will be successful but not sure how anyone can deny it looks vastly superior to the first trailer.
Not saying much of course and it still has an uphill battle, but let’s not devolve to X discourse and be fair.
@Ashkorsair Pretty much, I’d like to know their comms strategy moving forward.
It's doesn't look mad. Like a faster paced payday. We'll see I'm more interested now than before.
@get2sammyb So from a flaming dumpster fire to a smouldering dumpster fire then. I mean I guess that’s an improvement!
Sony has just lost the plot, and I can’t wait for Hulst to be ejected.
That was a surprisingly pretty good trailer. I'm still not too confident this game is going to find an audience but hey, you never know. I'm not into extraction shooters though so I'm not interested personally.
Hermen cut off the budget to PHYSINT so he could grant another gazillion to this, Horizon Hunters Gathering and to pay for another gps tracker to guide players on where to go in Wolverine!
Nah fair play we shouldn't hate on Sony, they're doing an amazing job right now, truly.
@get2sammyb It definitely does look better. I still don't see it sustaining interest long enough to break even.
3 years later and what they're working on is just making a Payday: The Heist clone but with 3rd person view and less realistic style. Which is quite ironic i say considering the first Payday was published by SOE.
Does it looks bad though? No. But it just looks so uninspired and i expect more from a studio created by Jade Raymond, oh wait she's already left the studio before this game even out lol.
Oh well. I guess this is type of game that Hermen and Nishino believes what a big chunk of Playstation userbase wants over a game like Physint 😮💨
I think they might be onto something here with Payday x The Finals. Art is also improved. Still they need to really get the feel right and they need to price it at 20-30 bucks or put it as f2p.
To be fair this doesn’t look bad at all but hopefully they don’t reveal this until the physical media and Physint stuff is quelled at least a little. You could paint a months long target on this thing from a mile away.
Love it or hate it! Whatever!
But the amount people that just want Sony to fail or have their downfall or go bankrupt is unsettling. What do you want?
Tens of thousands people unemployed? The industry collapsed? Because you don't like different game types. Just has to be your way or the highway. Time to leave your mother's teat and grow up.
Embarrassing Input of commentary on this article. No one’s played this game but you are certain it’s a flop. Some of you need to grow up with this way of thinking
Not for me tbh but I hope it does well. Might jump on if it gets good reviews or decent feedback but I wish they would just bring out a PvP game, a good old fashion TDM/CTF game. Getting fed up with extractions. Very brave though.
The Concordian timeline continues.
@dskatter I’d say smouldering dumpster fire to a smoking wheelie bin, but each to their own.
People hate without even watching the trailer. It actually looks well made and fun. We won't know until people jump in and try it for themselves, but nothing looks janky or cheap in this trailer. Y'all need to work out your negativity in a more healthy way.
Removed - unconstructive
Yo, this doesnt look bad AT ALL!
Look at all the Playstation haters above 🤦🏻♂️😆
I would like to be the voice of reason and I tell you all about how I have seen far worse trailers. Then I remember this got supported but I will have to play Kojima next two games on a PC. Why? If Sony is prioritizing casual players I might have to change my platform of choice, I didn’t have any problem distancing myself from the Wii/Ds-era Nintendo.
@get2sammyb It's not the game, it's what it represents. It's a reminder of Sony's arrogance and greed that lead to their GaaS obsession to the detriment of everything that made them successful in the first place. It doesn't help that it comes on the back of what sounds like a fairly lacklustre Wolverine effort, which in itself is symptomatic of how far Sony has fallen.
This looks about as generic as I expected.
@Czar_Khastik your best one yet!
@get2sammyb Totally agree. The anti-Sony bias, deserved or not, is totally real and in full force. If you said this was a massive new game mode for Fortnite, 1: I'd believe you, and 2: I bet sentiment would be very different.
If this is a premium title, I think Sony is in trouble, but if this is F2P and it's actually fun to play, I think this game might have some juice.
Why is everybody crapping on this? It looks good to me, although I could care less about multiplayer...
It looks like a single mode you would find in big titles that have story and multiple mp modes.
After arc raiders I wont be tempted to go down a non story game again. They are just not for me. I know now for sure that I can live without my in games but cant live without solo/story modes
People liked playing Payday and Rainbow Six so why can't Sony have a game like that?
I probably wouldn't play it as its not my sort of game but I also wouldn't say it looks bad at all. The trailer looked like it could be a good bit of fun with some over the top stuff going on. Hopefully it lands as a good game for those who enjoy that sort of game.
@Czar_Khastik this has to be your best work yet. Savage but brilliant.
@Czar_Khastik your best comment this week so far, kudos 😂
@DonJorginho that man needs to go
It really reminds me of a third-person PayDay with parkour.
Part of me doesn't see it succeeding but I guess we'll see.
"Hello Mr Jeff Sony I would please like to open a brand new studio and create Payday 4."
"YES! Greenlight! Lets monetise the guns and we can do skins and a battle pass and loot boxes! yes excellent... Is that Bungie behind you waving around a Destiny 3 pitch? Tell them to toddle off would you. Oi Kojima you cost too much can we stick a price on Ellie Fanning and charge people?"
Should of just stick with a new socom game or a remaster at the very least
It looks better than expected, but it also looks like a Ubisoft game. The internet is going to burn this one to the ground just like they did with Concord, which was also honestly a decent game under the hubris.
Sony wants don’t want decent games out of Sony though. They want GotY tier games.
Oh look another DOA live service game from Sony.
So, why would people want to play this game when Payday 2 still exists? Hell, Payday 3 suffered because Payday 2 still exists and was leagues better than it.
@Czar_Khastik I will never again try to write anything funny here. It could only look bleak compared to this. I bow before you.
Yea it does look a whole lot better now that they've seemingly gotten rid of the horrible character designs. Hell it even looks like the type of breakout indie multiplayer hit youd see on steam but unfortunately the damage is already done with its 1st look. And with the negative pr Sony is absolutely loving bathing in, I don't think it'll be enough to stop this from being a disaster
Don’t care enough to watch the new trailer but I do think having a new title like “Break In” is a good move b/c both Fairgame$ and Fairgames was 100% cursed and DOA.
I am disappointed not a single Sabrina Carpenter joke though so I’ll just leave this here. 😎
https://youtu.be/nrvQl4Nfqfc?si=YrdmNzEFgbw-sKjU
Back again with the toxic positivity from Push Square, some in the comments even pointing fingers at people being bad at MP games and hence the reason that Sony live-services fail spectacularly, you can’t make that s**t up 🤣
Being realistic tho, it looks generic af, like one of those filler games Geoff puts in-between the big announcements, and even if the game is decent enough it has no chance in the current climate, if Wolverine is being so heavily scrutinized while still being a fun game just imagine the reception this will have.
@BusyOlf Pattern recognition is a very useful tool. It speeds up processing and allows us to assess what may happen in the future. It's why I can stand on a hill, spot a storm in the distance coming right towards me, and conclude that I'm about to get wet.
It's the same principle with Sony's live service track record. If you've played a lot of games, followed games for a while, and seen what's successful versus what's not successful, it's easy to follow that pattern to its conclusion. While you say that it's childish to make the prediction that the game is going to fail before playing it, I'd say that it's naïve to think that you may not get wet standing on that hill under the approaching storm since, after all, you've never stood under THAT rain cloud.
I never understood how this game got so much hate from a CG trailer. If they finally have gotten the game to look and play well I don't see why people want it to fail, if it's a good multiplayer game let it have a decent run.
The gameplay in the trailer for the playtest actually looks pretty good. Graphics look good and the gunplay looks pretty smooth. To me this game looks like a fun time if you have some friends to squad up with. I don't see why this new trailer should get any hate lol.
Payday 3 was really bad so this game has a potential market to claw back, and from that trailer it looks quite decent.
Funny how Sony building a whole game around heists that are just part of Fortnite gameplay for free, meanwhile the top selling games of the year are all single player.
Maybe a ps+ launch title?
3rd person pay day
You know what this reminded me of? Rouge Company!
If it plays well and is free to play, I'll check it out with friends.
If it's $40+ then it can f off!
@Max_the_German @Dodoo @Ainu20 @naruball @Mr-Cage Thanks mates, I hope all of you have finished whatever you're working on and started to enjoy the weekend!
@GirlVersusGame Thank you and I hope you get well soon so I can read the Judge Dredd post we talked about.
And to finish on a less savage note: It would be nice if this game finds its audience but the project name was too good to just leave it uncommented.
Those animations look basic af.
@Czar_Khastik I will thank you, the key to not getting a stomach infection is to not eat cheese that appears a little moldy. I ate some before bed to amplify my dreams (it works) but I didn't see that moldy part until the next day, cheese is wonderful, the rest I can do without. I think it will find it's audience, at the moment people are angry with Sony about everything, it has to in someway affect everything Sony related. I'll play it regardless, I've never played a bad game, every game has redeeming features. As do people, it just takes time and commitment to find both.
@GirlVersusGame Exactly that, without being sarcastic, you can find a good side in almost everything if you are willing to look. And as a cheese lover I can feel for you and wish you a quick recovery and more cheeses (but only fresh ones) in the future.
And the bad news from Sony just keeps coming.
Who thought mashing up Payday and Gotham City Imposters would work?
@Czar_Khastik This might've been your best one yet. You should frame it and hang it on a wall.
@Czar_Khastik might be the best comment in the entire article.
@Haruki_NLI Media Molecule or Sony Bend studio shut down.
Oh crap, I'm jinxing it aren't I?
Idk maybe I'm blind or not the target demographic, but that clip does absolutely nothing for me. Like no feeling at all. I dont hate it nor do I find it pleasing to look at. It just exists. But I have no desire to play it.
Tbh this actually looks half decent. Pushsqaure commenters aren’t always correct on what’s a hit and what’s a failure… Ahem HELLDIVERS Ahem
All this time and it still looks like generic trash.
Insane they prefer to keep bankrolling this instead of whatever Kojima’s cooking up next. I hope this sells like 1,000 copies like Marathon.
@Ooccoo_Jr You should aim that anger directly at PlayStation and PlayStation's comms, then.
There are a lot of people working on this who I'm confident are trying to make a good game. It's not their fault what's going on above them, is it?
Looking forward to this one failing as well as Marathon, which is currently in ICU with the plug about to be pulled.
my only two issues is the graphics & music
1. Rap DOES NOT GO WITH EVERYTHING ffs; i got a feeling this games sound track is gonna be ass
2. The graphics look bland. I wish they’d stylize it or something. it has no identity
@get2sammyb Sid and rest of the comms team need to go.
@nessisonett That's how I felt when I saw how bad Pay Day 3 turned out to be. The second game was brilliant, great music, even the A.I. teammates worked as intended. They shifted the funds made from the Third game to another project and people weren't happy because it meant an unfinished and wooden experience. I'm sure it came to Plus+ too but no one talked about it. Almost overnight the entire community went right back to Pay Day 2.
How are you liking your new James Bond game? did you get enough cake too? I expected a couple of more Happy Birthdays but people don't always see that thread. Some don't know it's there, so Happy Birthday yet again 🎂
@Suda51ueda And yet Sony are releasing a single player game next week
@Czar_Khastik hats off..
@GirlVersusGame Bond’s been great so far, I love the Hitman games so it’s an interesting base to build another franchise around. Cake was good too, Colin the Caterpillar cake in the UK is a classic. Thanks again!
I think that's a pretty decent trailer for a type of game that seems vaguely interesting to me but will never play, personally.
For Sony's sake, I hope it finds an audience.
@GamingGod Ain't no way you're calling Helldivers a "failure" especially when you compare it to Sony's other recent live service attempts like Concord.
Hell, hot take but even Concord looked better than this. Atleast that game tried to have a distinctive visual style with a focus on retro-futirism (good idea, just poorly executed). This game just looks like a heist mode for a CoD game lmao
@somnambulance If I'm being honest, I'd rather have them polish up Concord over Fairgames. I actually dig the aesthetic of Concord, it just needed a more focused vision. Not to mention the lack of ults made the gameplay feel rather simple and repetitive. Still, I'd rather take it over another Payday clone. Still ticked off that they killed both the game and the studio but gave the upcoming Horizon spinoff another chance. Definitely fair move, Sony...
How do these character designs look MORE generic than real life people on the street? The Sony studios character design people need to leave their houses every once and a while.
@nessisonett I love the Hitman games too, they were one of the first studios to invent free flowing textures on those jackets and I love their set designs so much that I've chewed the ears off their environmental designers over on Artstation. I'm really looking forward to the remasters next year. Code Name 47, Silent Assassin, and Contracts are all being re-released, I have the originals but I'm sure they'll shine on PS5. Contracts is probably my favorite. It was darker with The Meat King and I first heard the band Clutch in the Rendezvous in Rotterdam mission.
They might be one of my favorite Studios I know Jesper Kyd is one of my favorite composers. I checked what that cake was and it actually looks like a caterpillar, I thought it was a figure of speech, I love it.
@Czar_Khastik
One of your best comments my guy😂
@SoulsBourne128 I don’t know if you are new to the site but a lot of people on here were saying HD2 was going to be a massive flop. And for the record I was saying the opposite.
I think this actually looks good and having never played payday or anything like it I’m intrigued not gonna lie. If it’s £35 I might just bite on this but obvs the neg train will be set forth on YouTube etc to try and kill it before it even gets a chance
@SoulsBourne128 I actually agree with you on that. There was a kernel of an interesting game with Concord. I would’ve been curious to see how the cinematic nature of the game would’ve played out in time. Fairgames, on the other hand, looks like Payday made by Sony… as the publisher slowly continues its mutation into a hybrid mesh of Activision and Ubisoft.
The Horizon spin off looked like pure junk, if I’m going to be honest. The fact that Horizon 3 is probably years out because of that game is moronic to me. By the time Horizon 3 actually comes out, a lot of people may have difficulty remembering story beats from the first and second games. There’s just such a lack of vision in Sony’s game development divisions since Shu left that I honestly don’t think anything Sony does makes sense anymore. But, hey, they’re monetizing us and that’s what matters!
It definitely looks better for sure.
However, I don't see how/why people jump into these games anymore. any of them. With the billion-dollar cheat industry allowed to run rampant, anything with pvp competitive multiplayer is DOA in my mind.
Arc Raiders was my last foray into this cesspool of the gaming space.
The Physint deal died, so FAIRGAMES$ could live!
This looks like trash.. to be honest..
trash. blow it up. now. if you don't, the natural order of things will do it for you on launch day. the budget on this is likely 2-3X what kojima's team needed for physint. enough with the excuses. meanwhile, the people at sony are anticipating higher profit margins than ever. sounds to me that sony doesn't like the creative side of its business and just wants to count its coin. the heads at sony don't like gaming and don't respect its users. their end goal is to dissolve PS studios to save more money and ride on the coatales of 3rd party software. exploiting the young live-service base is working right now, but it won't last forever and neither will this crappy brand.
Whenever this turd goes live, the servers aren't making it three months before getting shut down for good. That's my prediction.
Did the devs not know of Fortnite's existence.
Another dead game and Sony failure. Seems about right.
That looks utter pants.
5 years in development (so far) for a shallow, generic, extraction shooter.
Some people in here are smoking the crack, this game looks like something that comes out the crack in the back
@Dan12836666 Activily hoping a video game fails so people lose their jobs is peak stupidity
@Czar_Khastik LMAO!! 😂😂😂 Brother, you never miss! That was pure GOLD! 💪🏽😂👍🏽
@dodgykebaab i would 99 perecent of the time agree not in this case with sony herman hulst and some of them deserve firing
It doesn't look as bad but still just looks generic. It'll probably be "fine" as a game but the thing is , with how large the investment has likely grown from Sony at this point, it has a slim to none chance of finding a large enough audience to be successful, and that's before Sony gave people a hundred reasons to actively avoid their efforts. This is a sitting target.
I think I like the name Fairgames than Break in. If Sony brings back physical games, then I'd want this game to be successful.
Looks like every other steam slop that either flops on launch or goes viral. Silver lining: don't think there's anything left in the live service pipeline after this flops since Horizon won't see the light of day
@Suda51ueda top selling is different from concurrent players. And a single customer will pay once for a single player game. For live service games and multiplayer games, a single customer will pay more than once. A single customer can spend thousands on one game. So if successful, a live service game will make them more money than a single player game.
I don't play these types of games at all, but I don't see how this looks like trash if you're into these types of games.
@CutchuSlow I would assume that is obvious. I don't blame them for trying to get one to work to help pay for the ever increasing prices to make AAA games in the US. I would rather one of these pop off than see them move their studios to Europe or Asia where it's significantly cheaper.
@Sakai If you are a fan of Sony 1st party, then I don't know why you want these to fail. There is no Red Dead 2 or gta vi (at least not the versions we're gwtting/got) if not for GTA online and NBA 2k. I just wish they didn't involve their single player studios in the initiative. Although I don't think Naughty Dog originally set out to make a live service game. They just wanted a banger for a multi-player. Shame Bungie convinced them it had to be live service and the studio would have to put all their resources into supporting it.
The usual suspects in the comments section. At this point, why do some people even come to this site lol. Seems to make them completely miserable!
Just cancel it now and save yourselves the trouble
So they ditch Physint but they keep this ?
Who is calling the shots, at this compagny ? And why is this person still in place ?
This looks like another BOMBA.
Look out below!!!!
More failing gaas is always muzak to my ears
@mvhess you answered your own question.
I don't support obvious gaas garbage. Its been a huge waste of money and sonys leadership is braindead. Listens to bungie who downvotes factions cause they knew factions would destroy marathon.
I think this looks okay and would have probably played it if I hadn't gotten live service burnout from playing Marathon.
Kinda gave me a "The Finals" vibes in a way. A game in which I enjoyed when I played it for quite a bit so im not even mad at the trailer here. Im kinda interested in seeing more because of it.
It looks half decent. The problem isn’t the quality of these types of games it’s that the market is just so saturated. They should release after the GTA6 wave and before the Christmas holidays and either free to play or $25.
