Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the hit anime based on the existing Cyberpunk universe and branching off from Cyberpunk 2077, might be getting its own video game project.
This is according to a new report from MP1st, who claim that an unnamed source was, at some point, working on an Edgerunners adaptation, in collaboration with 2077 developer CD Projekt Red.
The truly interesting part, though, is that the source was employed at WayForward — the longstanding Californian company behind the Shantae games, River City Girls 2, and much more.
It's said that this Edgerunners project — codenamed Gemini — was actually a 2.5D brawler, so partnering with WayForward, with its side-scrolling and beat-'em-up expertise, suddenly makes a lot of sense.
But here's the thing: it's currently unclear whether this title ever got off the ground. The source no longer works at WayForward, although the project was in some form of production as recently as this year.
So while I would advise against getting your hopes up that this thing will ever release, it's still really interesting that CD Projekt Red was seemingly so keen to spin Edgerunners off into its own game.
It's possible that more information on 'Gemini' will surface over the coming weeks and months now that this report is doing the rounds.
