Do you love arcade racing games? Well, it’s time to put your money where your mouth is, because this is shaping up to be a big week.

As we write this, Genki’s legendary Tokyo Xtreme Racer has just released on PS5. The origins of the franchise date all the way back to the SEGA Saturn, but many of you will probably have played it on the PS2.

The game, which first launched on PC in early access last year, is presented in its final form here – and you can expect Initial D-esque drag races on the Japanese capital’s iconic highways.

While we’re not quite ready to publish our review just yet, we do have one planned, and you can look forward to that imminently.

But we said in the headline that this was a big week for arcade racers on PS5, and that’s because there’s one other title worth mentioning: Rave Racer is making its console debut tomorrow, as part of Hamster’s ongoing Arcade Archives series.

This game first launched in 1995, and has never been ported to a console until now.

Here’s how the dev describes it:

“With dynamic presentation and more exhilarating drift control, this title evolved in every way, becoming a hit that soared past the high expectations set for the third instalment in the Ridge Racer series. The diverse soundtrack further pumps up the race, igniting a frenzy that truly lives up to its name – RAVE!”

In addition to arcade-perfect emulation, you can expect a handful of different modes: Time Attack and Caravan. There’ll also be local split-screen multiplayer and a Platinum Trophy on the PS5.

While the game will also be available on the PS4, keep in mind that this version will fall under the original Arcade Archives moniker and will be lacking some features, such as split-screen. You’ll also need to pay an upgrade fee if at any point you want to transition to the PS5 version.

The game will cost $16.99 on the PS5 and $14.99 on the PS4, with a $2.99 PS4-to-PS5 upgrade fee.

So, a big week for arcade racers then. Which of the above are you buying and why? Let us know below.
