If Bandai Namco won't make a new Ridge Racer, we might as well have as many of the old games on modern systems as possible.
Hamster Corporation is making it happen thanks to its Arcade Archives series; last year saw the arrival of the Ridge Racer, the arcade original, on PS5 and PS4, and soon its sequel, Rave Racer, is to follow.
This will mark the first time the game has ever received a home console release. It's set for launch on 26th February, 2026; there's an Arcade Archives 2 version for PS5, and Arcade Archives for PS4.
If you're into your arcade racing games, there aren't many that get more arcade than this.
You can see a brief snippet of footage in the below video:
Also included in the video is the announcement of Console Archives, a new line of retro releases from Hamster focusing on early console games.
The first two games launch on PS5 on 14th February, 2026. They are:
Other games already announced include Doraemon, Sonic Wings Special, UFO: A Day in the Life, Nobunaga's Ambition, and Monster Rancher Hop-A-Bout.
Plenty of retro goodness is heading our way, then — which ones are you most excited to see? Tell us in the comments section below.

My biggest question is "Are the games sold separatedly ? "
Because I just only want to play the Doraemon NES version.
I don't even like the other games.
It's about time we get Ninja Gaiden NES.
Any idea if Rave Racer is 60FPS?
Please just get the Williams/Midway arcade games onto a modern console finally...
I have the original Cool Boarders on PS1, plus the digital re-release playable on PS3, PSP and PS Vita. Hasn't aged well, and surprised to see it re-released again... would be so much easier if Sony made the PS5 backwards-compatible with the PS3.
@Anti-Matter Each Arcade Archieve sold separately.
@MrPeanutbutterz I believe this is the arcade version so it should be 60 fps.
@doctommaso it’s nuts that Warner bros haven’t done this, want to play some joust and toobin, as well as all the other awesome arcade games that midway/williams made.
@MrPeanutbutterz Rave Racer will be 60fps, as the arcade was also 60fps - same with the release of ridge racer arcade in the previous arcade archives release, the hardware we have now days is more than powerful enough to emulate arcade systems decades ago.
Am i getting confused between rave racer and rage racer?
Rage against the rave....
I’ve never heard of Rave Racer before. I thought the series just had a Rage Racer in it.
@MysticWangForce @Onearmbandit
Rage Racer was the sequel to Ridge Racer on the PS1, whereas in the Arcade Rage Racer never appeared AFAIK, the official sequel was Rave Racer which has never officially made it out of the arcades before until now.
An essential purchase I believe.
Ah ok thank you.
It is somehow funny that the biggest multiplatform news from Nintendo Direct is this. Formerly, they revealed at least something like Katamari games at these presentations.
Never played Rave Racer.
I've done the obvious and watched videos on Youtube, and honestly I don't think it's that great.
I'd prefer Revolution and Rage Racer to be released on Premium.
As far as Arcade racing games go, I'd love games like Chase HQ, Power Drift, Super Monaco GP and Continental Circus etc rather than the early 3D games.
Outrun is great on my Switch.
It's quite bizarre that Rave Racer never received a single home console port.
@Topov81 but now people on Switch, XB, and PC can play Cool Boarders in all it's glory.
Cool to see these coming to PS5. Was a little worried when nothing was said yesterday.
stoked to get trophies in NG2 and finally play Rave Racer.
Really looking forward to Rave Racer, if only Hamster could get SEGA on board too.
@Dogbreath Its really good on Switch but the Saturn is still my favourite way to play OutRun, with the analog triggers and smooth 60fps mode enabled. I like the extra music on Switch, but the Saturn has some great 90s remixes on the stand alone Japanese release.
kind of a weird choice for hamster co to bother to port cool boarders to the ps5 when it already exists on the system and is a lot cheaper than the hamster release.
I only played Rave Racer once in an arcade far from home. It was ok but I didn't get to explore much of what it had to offer so am really interested in this.
I always expected it to come to PS1 back in the day but loved Rage Racer so much it didn't matter.
@Fartingale I thought this too, but seems interestingly different from the Switch version, doesn't have the PS5 higher resolution rendering on the polygons, but seems like Hamster's release removes the dithering from the 2D aspects of the artwork. Quite different approaches to emulating the same game.
@Ristar24 Hamster's emulator (on Switch 2 at least) seems so much better than what Sony managed. Especially since Sony didn't even allow you to run the games with the original resolution, and their CRT filters are awful and don't even look like CRT. Sony's emulator also had frame pacing issues while Hamster's does not.
I rather play Tokyo Xtreme Racer or Carmageddon: Rogue Shift than Rave Racer

"Am i getting confused between rave racer and rage racer?
Rage against the rave...."
Rave Racer was originally planned for the PS1, but Namco scrapped that idea and decided to make an all-new console version as it would be more suited to the home - more modes and missions as opposed to just being an arcade port, which prolly would have sold less.
@Onearmbandit
"I’ve never heard of Rave Racer before. I thought the series just had a Rage Racer in it."
Many have not heard of it either, as the Ridge Racer series was made popular by the PS1 port, Rave Racer was on the sidelines at this time sadly.

Yeah, that's the reason Namco didn't port Rave Racer to the PS1 as it already had the Ridge Racer name well established, so they made Rage Racer instead, which was more suited to home consoles as it had extra modes and such, than being just a short arcade experience.
