Arc System Works is aiming to keep uber-exciting PS5 brawler Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls alive for at least 10 years, meaning it’ll almost certainly be supported into the PS6 generation and beyond.
Speaking on stage at Evo this weekend, producer Takeshi Yamanaka said, as translated by PS Studios’ Reed Baird:
“For the next 10 years, we plan to keep making this game the best experience ever.”
The fighter doesn’t currently have a release date, but it’s expected to be available before Evo 2026, so should launch within the next 12 months or so. A closed beta will take place on PS5 in September.
Obviously Sony has yet to officially acknowledge the PS6, but specs have started to leak and the system is expected to release around 2027.
While 10 years does sound like a long time, it’s not enormously surprising.
Dragon Ball FighterZ, for example, first released in 2018 – but was ported to the PS5 in 2024, some six years later.
Guilty Gear Strive, meanwhile, will still get major updates in 2026 – despite first releasing all the way back in 2021.
A lot of this long-tail support will depend on the title’s overall success, but given the sheer enthusiasm surrounding Marvel Tokon, and the deep pool of comic book characters Arc System Works has to pull from, we can certainly see it enjoying a long lifespan.
Fighting games have, by and large, become live service games these days.
Street Fighter 6’s Year 3 Pass launched earlier this week, starting a new season of content with the addition of Sagat, and the promise of returnees like C. Viper in the future.
Tekken 8 is also on a similar trajectory, with Armor King coming in October and a new character and Madagascar stage to follow thereafter.
With games like these featuring in competitions like Evo, they do benefit from ongoing development, as new characters and modes can be added over time. We’d expect Marvel Tokon to have a very robust DLC plan.
However, first we need to know what content will be included at launch. For now, we only know about one stage and eight characters, but we’d expect the announcements to come thick and fast thereafter – perhaps starting at Gamescom later this month.
