Sony sprung into action this week with a number of PlayStation-focused announcements to please its fanbase, one of which was a return to the traditional State of Play mantra of bundling together a ton of games and reveals. The focus was placed firmly on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 titles, some of which we already knew about while others were brand new on the night. However, if you weren't able to tune in, you might be wondering what Sony announced. What new PS5 games were there? Did something you're interested in get a release date? Can't wait for Oddworld!
Really don't think we needed this state of play. Wasn't sure why they were having one in the first place and the lack of anything substantial confirmed it.
People say nothing substantial but these are all game updates for games we haven't heard about since the June reveal of the PS5 last year. Solar Ash and Kena Look amazing by the way. And Returnal needed the spotlight. I wasn't expecting any AAA stuff in February to be honest. Sony never even said that they were showing that. They updates and new info.
Nothing there that's going to make me buy a PS5 from a scalper. Not to say there isn't some good stuff but no system sellers.
Aaaaaand PS5 still doesn't have a exclusive that makes me need one.
Everything that looks good is also on PS4.
I'm not sure why psvr2 got a media dump but nothing on the direc...err...sob-p...sop. that was the biggest news of the week. That and the fact that their obliterating their Japanese roots and abandoning the games many long time fans became customers because of. But they should have had psvr2 mentioned here.
Sony and Nintendo have both simultaneously list the art of marketing and somehow scored record profits.
This was sooooo disappointing... Figured if they had State of Play we would at least head some actually meaningful announcements, like Horizon 2 or GoW.
I would really like to play that FF7 bonus content. Not enough to buy a PS5 yet assuming that I could even find one but I definitely would have picked it up on PS4
Kena looks soooo good. Can’t. Wait!!!!
Wow. I thought the Nintendo Direct was dull.
I'm starting to think this year will keep me digging through my back log for quite some time.
Kena and Deathloop made this worth it. Those games look amazing.
@Icey664 state of play events is to show off trailers/ game play / and sometimes announce things. why not have it if they have stuff to show off? they are supposed to be mini events , but people expect too much that was going going to be announced at that show . its their own fault.
A good (but not great) shows, ff7 remake upgrade and returnal is my number 1 & 2 games of the shows
Sifu was the only thing shown we had not seen before; a couple other new announcements would have made this show so much better. I'm glad I didn't watch it live and could fast forward through much of it. Kena still looks cool, btw.
Kena looks amazing please don’t put the 80€ price tag on it and I’ll buy it day one
Sifu looks a bit good.
@twitchtvpat
I didn't have much expectations, but my point was why bother with it at all. It all could have been said in a blog post imo.
@NEStalgia they said it was going to be about previously announced games and not hardware. If you expected VR news then that’s your issue
I haven't finished FF7 Remake yet. I guess I should just wait till the upgrade is available and play it from the beginning to experience it again.
Wasn't great but Returnal, Deathloop & Kena looked good but I would be getting those anyway. Odd world is a nice bonus for April.
Gutted Kena isn’t out till August now - really looking forward to this one. At least more people will have a PS5 by then.
Well they did present a good trailer for Kena, and a "clear" release date (which should not be taken it as "fixed", but it's an improvement over the simple "2021"). Aside from that, nothing interesting to see (for me).
Was hoping for a lot more though, for such a rare event.
@WizzNL There's nothing in the deluxe that I need (I'll gladly take the pre-order bonus though) but I'm thinking about getting it anyway to give more support to a new promising studio. Haven't made up my mind yet.
GT7
HFW
GoW
R&C
Re8 (or re4 remake)
PsVR2
Or a new exclusive title
I honestly expected 1 of those to be the nail of the show with some new info or gameplay trailer. And thought that these kind of expectations were kinda low, but I guess these presentations shouldn't always be big
@WizzNL thank you so much, it’s a day 1 for me! Does it have physical edition?
@Boucho11 My point was that they did release PSVR news this week, but that it should have been in the SOP, not a random media drop before it. A presentation that drops cool news like that has a lot more impact than randomly stumbling across it days before.
Got to ask yourself what that FFR DLC sliced from the game and added to the PS5 upgrade???
Nothing there that interests me. If they had announced a Syphon Filter reboot, now that would have been something.
I really don’t know why people are complaining so much. In the past these devs might have shown these gameplay clips at sporadic times or not at all, now we are getting the info dump all at once, which is helpful.
As people start getting used to these shows maybe expectations will adjust, but these are not about huge announcements.
If it was me, I’d release an itinerary before the show so people know what’s coming and won’t be disappointed, it’ll just be “cool, we’ll see some more Kena soon” or “oh, let’s tune in for the FF7 DLC announcement”
I enjoyed the extra coverage we got on both Oddworld and Kena (Plus release dates), and the FF7 Remake Intergrade PS5 Upgrade with the new Yuffie DLC episode was a very happy surprise.
All in all I was very pleased with this State of Play, looking forward to the next one!
