Well, well, well – this is all rather sad and embarrassing, isn't it? Sony looked like it had the fighting game community locked down a few weeks ago, but its plans are in tatters right now. While, yes, Street Fighter V is still very much a PlayStation 4 and PC exclusive, the Japanese giant's port of Ultra Street Fighter IV was supposed to keep quarter-circle superstars occupied until the brawler's release next year – but it's been a disaster so far.
While the manufacturer states that it's looking into a patch, the input lag and framerate issues have caused professional players to heavily criticise the port – especially as it was announced as the version that would be used at tournaments a few weeks back. However, publisher Capcom has already changed its plans, announcing that its Pro Tour league will be ditching the PS4 release until its issues are resolved.
"A lot of our more competitive players have wondered how the Ultra Street Fighter IV version on PS4 will affect them and the tour," a spokesperson wrote on Capcom Unity. "To that we'd like to advise that the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour is a top priority for us and we will continue to work with tournament organisers worldwide to ensure that the highest quality event will be run."
The company continued: "Each region will maintain its current hardware standard for the remainder of the 2015 Capcom Pro Tour until otherwise announced. We will keep you updated as to when the PS4 version of Ultra Street Fighter IV will be integrated into the Pro Tour. SCEA and Capcom are currently looking into the issues that some users may be experiencing and are working to resolve them as quickly as possible."
It's worth noting that, while this is a Capcom game, the port was handled by Sony's Third-Party Productions team and Other Ocean Interactive. Organisers of EVO – the world's biggest fighting game tournament – have said that they're currently evaluating which version of Ultra Street Fighter IV to use at this year's event in July.
It, er, wasn't supposed to be like this...

This is just embarassing and sad...
To that we'd like to advise that the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour is a top priority for us and we will continue to work with tournament organisers worldwide to ensure that the highest quality event will be run.
It sounds as if the integrity of the tour is more important than the actual quality of this port was.
Only Sony could manage to bugger this up. It had the SF community almost on a plate, and somehow, this happens! Better hope SFV is up to scratch, eh?
@Jonny It's a massive, massive shame because I actually think the Third-Party Productions initiative is an awesome idea. Like, this port wouldn't exist at all if Sony hadn't stumped up to get this made. But Borderlands Vita was a disaster and now this... I haven't got especially high hopes for Revelations Vita and Yakuza 5 will probably sell like pap.
How many chances will they get? If the game's were coming out in a better state, this would be a real valuable asset to Sony... But they're not.
@get2sammyb It seems to be common trend with farming game ports to other developers to honest, only Nintendo rigid quality control seems to being able to pull it off consistently (OOT/MM3D, WWHD, DKCR3D, XC3D were all pretty smooth as far as I recall...WIi Okami too although I know Kamiya wasn't fond of it)
Other Ocean Interactive in particular are infamous for releasing Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection as a buggy mess inferior to emulators so I'm slightly amazed they even got the chance to work on this.
I know it's cheaper to farm development out but I that doesn't mean the publisher should accept a inferior product because the fans sure as hell wouldn't.
This is ridiculous Sony, utterly ridiculous.
@Jonny Yeah, agreed. This is what you get when you try to cut corners.
Shame I like this third party initiative thing but its not gonna work out if they're all broken ports. I think vita owners waiting for Revelations 2 aren't gonna like what they see.
@ShogunRok "only Sony could manage to bugger this up"
Really laying your hate out there huh
Time to kill this cursed Third Party Production Team, sloppy ports on Vita is one negligible thing but messing up a strategic port on PS4 (Sony's apparent love machine) supports not only that but Yoshida's poor management.
@viciousarcanum Sony can take the criticism, fanboys apparently not.
If the dev team makes sloppy ports Sony really should've known something was going to go wrong. Now the devs will be working double-time to see if this thing can even be fixed.
Here's hoping the Capcom team in charge of bringing SF5 to both PS4 and PC know what they're doing or we'll be seeing some issues between both platforms.
I just don't get it, don't companies have a QA session and see how bad a game is? What are they thinking? I just can't understand how a delay doesn't happen with the game will obviously do more harm out than delayed.
@get2sammyb
Is the Xbone version of Revelations 2 still the definitive port? And by the way, yeah this USF4 fiasco is a shame. It's a pretty stronge statement from Sony to want their console (PS4) to be viewed as the tournament players choice for competitive fighting games. But are having these performance issues plaguing them. It's terrible that the consumers are the debug testers also...
@viciousarcanum I write about Sony every day - the amount of stuff it constantly buggers up is incredible, but I still love it.
@Jonny
Nintendo does the exact same thing--they farmed out ports of DKCR 3D and Xenoblade 3D to Monster Games. The difference with a couple of the Zeldas is that they handled them in-house.
@viciousarcanum Well, it's not as if Sony have a history if cocking things up, isn't it?
@Quorthon
1. I know, hence I mentioned Nintendo earlier
2. The Zelda 3DS games were not done in-house, it was down by the development house Greezo
3. Know the difference between all Nintendo's ports and most other one? Nintendo ports weren't crap.
One bad port I can understand. Mistakes happen, right? But when a team puts out 2 or more shoddy ports in a row, it's time for whoever is outsourcing to drop them like a bad habit.
Quality control is important. It'll get to a point where people just stop buying good games because they're afraid of the quality.
