5. Demon's Souls (PS5)
Sony comfortably hooked the enthusiast crowd by adding Demon’s Souls to the PS5’s launch lineup. FromSoftware’s legendary action RPG – which would go on to spawn the so-called Soulsborne series and, eventually, even Elden Ring – was snubbed by the Japanese giant during the PS3 era, as it felt early builds were simply not up to snuff. Publishers like Atlus and Bandai Namco eventually picked it up, and it went on to become a cult classic. Perhaps as a tacit admission that it made a mistake, its recruited tech specialists Bluepoint Games to remake the game for a modern era – and the results are remarkable. This version uses original PS3 code to make for an incredibly authentic experience, but its visuals are among some of the best you’ll find on Sony’s new-gen console. It’s an extraordinary blend of old and new that comes highly recommended.
4. Resident Evil 2 (PS5)
The differences between Resident Evil 2 on PS4 and PS5 are few and far between, but its everlasting quality remains. This is still a spectacular remake of the 1998 survival horror classic, modernising Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield's first adventure with a third-person camera and vastly updated visuals. The Raccoon Police Department has never looked more terrifying with a native 4K resolution and ray tracing on PS5, so leave enough room to peek over the covers and experience one of the best horror experiences around.
3. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (PS5)
A compilation including two of the PS4’s most beloved games was destined to be well-received, and while the absence of PS3 era adventures like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves prevents this from being definitive, it’s still an absolute must for thrill seekers. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End paints protagonist Nathan Drake as a weary buccaneer on one final score, while the even more refined Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – originally intended as DLC – acts as a kind of Greatest Hits album, with series stalwart Chloe Frazer serving as a superb step-in for Nate. Series creator Naughty Dog could have done more to upgrade these greats for the PS5 console, but there’s no question this collection is a must-play.
2. Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered (PS5)
Offered as an added incentive as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ pricier Ultimate Edition, a somewhat strange delivery mechanism should take nothing away from Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Insomniac Games invested a huge amount of effort here, rebuilding New York City to take full advantage of the PS5 hardware, without interfering with the critically acclaimed action of the PS4 original. Some vocal fans were frustrated by the changes to protagonist Peter Parker’s face – but with new visual effects like ray tracing, in addition to silky smooth 60 frames-per-second refresh rates, this is the definitive way to experience Sony’s superb superhero sandbox. It even includes all of the original’s inconsequential but enjoyable expansion packs!
1. Resident Evil 4 (PS5)
One of the most influential, and most highly rated, games in living memory is Resident Evil 4, and surprise surprise, the remake is just as essential. Capcom has brought Leon's disturbing European excursion into the modern era with updated controls, vastly improved graphics, and knife parries. The remake nails the tone of the beloved original while building on it with a creepier atmosphere and even new areas to explore and side missions to keep you busy. It's somehow improved on one of the best games ever, and even features full PSVR2 support.

What about concord remastered that should be no1
Based on actual remastering from the original source Resident Evil 4 for me, I like The Last Of Us Part 2 but it hardly needed any attention.
The fantastic Demon's Souls remake is far superior to ND's lacklustre efforts
It comes to this… 🤣
Demon souls Should be number 1 by a country mile xD
Forgot about Oblivion already it seems, that would score higher than Klonoa i think.
Destroy all humans 1 & 2 we’re good remakes👀
I wonder will there be a DAH 3 or what exactly 🤔
Snake Eater Remake will probably take the number 1 spot, if Konami stick the landing.
How in Earth is TLOU Part 1 a remake???
@SMJ Because it doesn't look like the original go look at the PS4 Remaster and the Remake Side by Side They did more than just bump the frame rate and resolution up.
@Areus I still wouldn't class it as a remake.
If you've played the original, you've played the PS5 version. Only that version actually has less content.
@graymamba exactly what I was thinking. 🤣
It seems you’ve misspelt Oblivion as ‘Resident Evil 4’ for some strange reason.
Dead space remake should be on here imo.
@SMJ By that logic, you could rule out most remakes. There are not too many "remakes" that are actually reinterpretations, which seems to be what you want out of a remake (i.e. Final Fantasy 7). This isn't a dig, since there aren't any standards for what constitutes a remaster, remake, reboot, etc.
For me, I would liken a video game remake to a song rerecording. It's the same song, just done again. It doesn't need to be different from a structural standpoint.
@wildcat_kickz Wow. I had completely forgotten I'd even commented on this article. 😂
@SMJ I honestly didn't even see that dates of the comments! PS must have bumped the article 😂
@wildcat_kickz But, seeing as we're here, I still believe that a remaster is polishing the original content to look or sound better and a remake is creating something new with the same spirit of the original content.
Resident Evil 2 is a remake of the PS1 original. Whereas The Last of Us Part 1 is a remaster of the PS3 original.
@SMJ I think I get what you're saying. For me, I'm looking at it at a more technical level. A remaster would take the existing title and up-res, maybe improve lighting, etc. Essentially, build off the same game code to take advantage of more powerful hardware.
TLOU Part 1 instead took the structure of the game, but rebuilt it using a newer engine, essentially writing the game code all over again (re-making the game).
Take this film analogy: In 1934, Alfred Hitchcock released The Man Who Knew Too Much. This version of the film has since been remastered, released on VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc. These rereleases took advantage of techniques to clean up the film to make it look and sound more presentable on modern hardware.
However, in 1956, Hitchcock released a remake of the exact same script. The movies are largely the same (same story, same characters, same beats, etc.), but was completely reshot.
I liken this to TLOU Part 1. The beats are the same, the story is unchanged, but the game was actually remade, rather than just spiffed up.
TLOU even has a legitimate remaster that released on PS4. While the story and flow of the game are the same in the PS5 remake, animations are different, the environments have been redone and AI has been reworked.
Even if the differences aren't as stark as RE2 or FF7, I think it still constitutes a remake.
@wildcat_kickz I'm loving that you used Hitchcock as an example because I would liken TLOU on PS5 to Psycho with Vince Vaughan. An almost shot for shot copy of the original Anthony Perkins movie. Same dialogue. Same scenes. Same soundtrack.
@SMJ Yeah that's a good example too! Would you consider that a remake or something else? I'd consider it a remake, even though the product is largely the same.
@wildcat_kickz We're probably just talking semantics now when it comes to labelling things. I just don't think TLOU on PS5 is a remake.
Jumanji! That was a remake!
@SMJ Lol. And what a remake it was!
@wildcat_kickz Absolutely was! Wait....was that sarcasm?
@SMJ It couldn't be, sarcasm is the only thing I have and people here are kind enough not to rob it from me.
@SMJ I honestly haven't seen it, but @Czar_Khastik is right - I would never dream of infringing on his sacred duties.
@Czar_Khastik @wildcat_kickz This has made my Christmas. 😂
@SMJ @wildcat_kickz Wish you all the best for the holidays, no sarcasm this time
@Czar_Khastik Right back atcha!
