I will buy the Switch this month, really want to play Super Mario Odyssey on the release date. I had a Wii U and already played Breath of the Wild there.
Nintendo is releasing many great exclusives recently, including Wii U, but do you guys know what games they will release in the next year? Maybe the new Metroid or Pokemon Switch?
@PS_Nation Unlikely. Metroid didn't have any footage and the ''teaser'' said ''now in development''. Reggie used that game as an example of an announcement they wanted to get out to the fans, not necessarily because it's coming soon, but just to let everyone know they're working on it. That doesn't sound like a 2018 game to me.
Pokemon is in a similar boat, it got announced, and won't ''release for more than a year'', but that's all we know. We do know they started the current generation last year with Sun/Moon, and this year they're rehashing releasing Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. If a new generation starts next year, the current one would only last two years, which is awfully short. Besides, GameFreak aren't the most competent developers, so developing an actual HD Pokemon game will probably take a bit longer than expected. The reason why they were able to cut the last generation early was because they reused a lot of assets in Sun and Moon from XY. I don't think they can do that again. Plus, things like the anime, the annual championships all point to a 2019 date.
@Octane Cool, thanks. Anyway, I will spend a lot of time with Super Mario Odyssey, maybe I will try Xenoblade too, but the game looks really complex, lol, and I never played the games before it. I really loved Mario Kart 8, I will probably buy it again on Switch, hope they release Super Smash Bros. Wii U on Switch too.
@PS_Nation Smash is bound to happen at some point. As I said, I don't think either Metroid or Pokemon are likely 2018 games, so maybe we'll get a new Smash instead?
Xenoblade 2 is something I want to get into too, but it's a looong JRPG, so I don't know if I'll like it.
@PS_Nation Nintendo has been teasing Pikmin 4 for a long time, so I'd be surprised if we didn't see it next year. Animal Crossing also wouldn't surprise me. We already know Fire Emblem, Yoshi, and Kirby are on the way in the near-ish future as well.

@KratosMD I thought I was the only one that wanted this. After so many years it has become tiresome to keep new monsers interesting. Moreover there are endless legendary that you have to be online or go to a shop to get a code to have that I lost count. It is time for a reboot.
It is not going to happen though. They even have the Bank for easy transfers now...
@Octane I'm guessing Nintendo has been stockpiling projects to strategically reveal for a while now. Which is great, because a steady stream of well-received first-party releases will keep increasing the Switch's momentum.
Things are going to get crazy once Pokemon is properly revealed.
@KratosMD They won't do it, but a full, console-scale remake of Red and Blue with expanded online capabilities that allow trainers to interact and battle throughout Kanto would be... unspeakably awesome.
Open world Pokemon would also really be cool. I mean, I know some of the games are more open and allow you to explore the regions in different ways, but the scale would need to be dramatically increased. Imagine getting lost in a forest and searching for bug Pokemon, or camping out on a mountain and running into a geodude.
I guess what I want is "Breath of the Wild: Pokemon Edition."
@KratosMD I think a big issue is that the number of new Pokemon have been on the low side recently, below 100 for both XY and SM. But the expected number for the regional Pokedex has grown. It's usually around 300; the regional Pokedex in USUM is confirmed to have more than 400 Pokemon, meaning less than 25% you encounter are new Pokemon. So the growing regional Pokedex, combined with the smaller number of new Pokemon make this even more obvious. I don't expect a reboot anytime soon though...
@PS_Nation I should also mention that I can't imagine we won't get an upgraded Smash 4 port next year. A port of Bayonetta 1 & 2 has also been HEAVILY teased on Twitter by Platinum, as well as a potential sequel to The Wonderful 101.
I thought Yoshi looked thoroughly mediocre, but I'm sure there'll be an audience for it. It looks like a step back from Yoshi's Wooly World, imo.
@BLP_Software No issues with the sleep mode so far, but mine is slightly bent and the screen protector won't fit perfectly because of it, it's a bit annoying.
@KratosMD Announced and released quickly after the Wii U came out?
Mate...over 4 years aint quick. Thats N64 to Gamecube, GBA to DS, given the average console lifespan is 5 years...thats not bad.
At least the system isnt straight up bricking, red ringing, yellow lighting, catching fire, failing to read games, can be bricked during a day 1 4 hour update.
@Octane I have no idea what causes that but its not heat or the dock (As again, no pressure to force the bend when docked). Probably just some variance in manufacturing. Even my phone isnt perfectly straight.

@BLP_Software Doubt it's the heat too, cause I haven't used it more than a few hours. The bumps in the dock did slightly damage the screen though, but it's on the bezel, so it's only noticeable when the light hits the screen at the right angle.
Nothing rushed about the system on a hardware level. Some small number of systems have issues during in launch year. That's the same for every modern console since last gen.

@KratosMD Absolutely incorrect. A tiny number of people have had issues with launch units (which happens with every console), and concern trolls used these complaints to create public hysteria about issues that were either overblown or non-existent to begin with. The only big complaint that was verifiably happening with some launch units was the joycon disconnection issue, which happened because the joycons were apparently missing a piece of conductive foam.
The amount of trolling that happened around the Switch launch was nuts. Unfortunately, I think it's a reflection of the growing toxicity of Western gamer culture in general.

@KratosMD For once I agree with@BLP_Software 4 years is not early at all. Besides I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were working on the switch along side the Wii U.

@Ralizah@KratosMD Its a problem yes, but its recent, and will most likely be patched out really fast, as they've done several times. Its just a little oddity, but again, if this kind of thing is a huge turn off in the off chance it happens...don't buy it until patched.
@Tasuki I think they said it started late 2014/early 2015? Heck, we know companies begin work on the next thing immediately so who really knows. Given Nvidia was working on it since 2015, and Nvidia was pitching their chips to companies for ages, I'd suggest the concept from Nintendo was as early as 2013.
Heck, it's the culmination of years of work, the tech is finally right to do it. Who really knows how long its been on the drawing board. But 4 years is a long long time to develop tech. In fact, 4-5 years is about right.

Nintendo starts working on their next console as soon as their newest one releases, so the Switch has been in development for years. Additionally, the system is getting a number of projects that have been in the works for years.
All launch consoles have manufacturing issues and dud units that need to be addressed. There just isn't usually non-stop trolling surrounding these consoles when they launch.
