Based on Nintendo's pattern of re-releasing critical Wii U releases, sometimes with large updates, for the Switch, I still believe it's an upgraded port. Also, the lack of a drawn-out marketing cycle.

@Ralizah Well if you want to get technical Smash 4 is built entirely on top of Brawl's engine. So that's actually an upgraded port.

@YummyHappyPills That's like saying Metal Gear Survive is a "port" of MGSV because they both use the Fox Engine.

@TheTetrisGuy It would get "backlash" from a handful of loud people on the internet. Otherwise, I could easily see it becoming the best-selling version of the game, just like MK8D and Bayonetta 2 outsold their Wii U versions.

@Ralizah Bayonetta 2 on Switch hasn’t out sold the Wii U version yet, it sold more in the first 9 weeks then the Wii U version. But that’s besides the point, it would be more than a handful of people that would be upset. But yeah, no matter what it’s going to sell well, that’s for certain.

Just a geek that likes video games, and spends to much time playing Smash Bros. and Fortnite.

@Ralizah I think it's likely it will be similar to Splatoon 2. Clearly the the same engine and assets, but different enough to warrant a purchase. I just want to see enough different characters, stages, etc.

Ralizah

@Octane I'm hoping it's a Smash 4.5 that includes all DLC from Smash 4, some of the better older modes (like Smash Run), alongside new characters, stages, items, modes, etc.

Hopefully they leave that terrible board game mode in the dustbin of history where it belongs.

@Ralizah I'm of the opinion that they should ditch a good chunk of the characters and add a bunch of new ones

To be honest, I'll be happy if we get Shantae. Won't happen, but that would be my go-to character from then on.

Even though Labo topped up last weeks Japanese charts it only managed to sell through 30% of its initial shipment & didn’t move hardware as expected.
https://www.dualshockers.com/nintendo-labo-sales-japan/

Looks like Nintendo overshipped as most popular games sell through 80%+ of their initial shipment in Japan.
Add this to the reports that’s it’s tracking below expectations in the US, it looks like Labo didn’t blow up as Nintendo expected.

Having said that, I think there’s little to worry here. I imagine the profit margins on these kits are insane.
Would love to know how much R&D for Labo was.

Also I feel like I’m the only one NOT excited for Smash! I bought a Wii for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but I got little interest for another Smash.
Pokemon Switch though...now that has me shaking with excitement !

@Fight_Teza_Fight Nah, I'm not hugely hyped for Smash. I mean, I'm sure it'll be good, I'm sure I'll buy it, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it quite a bit, but it doesn't stir up much excitement for me. Smash is Smash.

Same with Pokemon on Nintendo Switch, actually. The transition to a powerful (in comparison to previous handhelds, at least) piece of hardware would be the perfect time for Game Freak to blow open the game design, try something new, and get people really excited for Pokemon again, but something tells me that's not going to happen. It's probably going to be yet another conservative entry in the series rushed out to meet demand for more first-party Switch games. As I recall, the Pokemon models used in Sun and Moon scale to HD resolutions quite nicely, so I can see it not taking a hugely long time for them to develop the first truly HD Pokemon game.

As to Labo... I'm honestly kind of glad it's not blowing up. This is as good of a signal as any to Nintendo that people want to see high-quality games from them instead of weird gimmicks.

Here's the thibg. If Labo fails, it fails. It was an idea they had, tried it, it didnt work.

But unlike previous failures, its not all it is and requires waiting a few years for the next thing. This isnt a product of such massive importance like the Wii U. Its not an entire system. It was a potential platform, a peripheral.

Like Move, Kinect, Wonderbook, something else to do with an already popular system. Sometimes this pans out, sometimes it doesnt.

@Ralizah You’ve pretty much summed up how I feel. I do think the step up for Pokemon Switch will be enough for me as the last game I played was Black/White.

@YummyHappyPills Yeah, you can’t fault them for trying.
Although I will fault them for timing.

@Fight_Teza_Fight There's no harm in giving it a whack. After all, if ya dont try it, thats worse than failing.

They came up with an idea, fired it out, if it doesnt take then whatever. And unlike a whole cobsole that doesnt take, this is just a drop in the water.

I like Labo. Well the building anyway.

Can I say told you so on the Labo now? 😂

As for Pokemon Switch not really excited for another Pokemon game although In will wait and see. The only Pokemon games In played was Red/Blue got all the creatures in them beat the game and that was that for me. I didn't touch another Pokemon game till Black/White and even then, I got to the second gym said yep it's the same and got bored of it. Still like I said I will wait for Pokemon Switch.

As for Smash Switch I will pass. I played the N64 Smash didn't like it I played the 3DS/Wii U still didn't like it. Smash is just not my cup of tea when it comes to fighting games.

@Tasuki Not...really? We dont know how well it has done or what their overall goal was in terms of sales. Even then, unlike a typical game its unique in the position that Labo itself is a platform they can evolve.

We would have called the 3DS a failure yet they turned that around. If Labo can extend into a whole range of educational systems to be used with Switch then I see a bright niche market for it in the same vein as PSVR being a niche but different experience using hardware that is already widely available in homes.

Or Kinect. But we dont talk about that.

Even then, this is no situation where someone gets to say "I told you so". You can't accurately predict how something so wildly out there will sell. Plus, the "I Told You So" mentality is just detrimental to the industry.

Doing so stifles the idea that new ideas can work, it discourages discussion and stops people from embracing something even if it is a commercial flop. As I said above, saying I told you so stops people from even wanting to try, rather than trying and failing, if it fails at all.

As for Pokemon. It's Pokemon. You know what you're getting yourself into. If you like it, cool, join the millions. If not, cool. Join the millions.

And Smash, its certainly a unique party game I give it that. Very much stands on its own by being different and of course the downside with being different is that you are likely to not attract the same people as other things. It has it's market and will sell well, that's all that matters.

It's the highest-selling game on Amazon at the moment. Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, on the other hand, barely squeezed into the top 50.

Bleh.

A solid if unremarkable 2D platformer or the best DW game this year.

Meanwhile I'm still fumbling through Atelier: Lydie & Suelle, lol.

It's not a hard game by any means, but it seems to drag on a bit for what it is, and while I've heard it's a 30 hour game generally (though that may have been an estimate of games in the series in general), here I am nearly 40 hours into it, and I just know I have 2 or 3 chapters left (probably bringing my total playtime to around 50 hours I'm guessing).

It's not a bad game by any means, and I actually like the battle system & the deep crafting system, but it's definitely a slice of life RPG & not an epic adventure, so the cute girls doing charming things angle only goes so far before I'm ready for it to end, lol.
