@LN78 It's hard to tell; 20th wants a new Alien movie following Romulus' success and they want Scott to direct it. Scott wants to do a Covenant sequel, because "it is the perfect beginning". They had announced a Romulus sequel just days prior to announcing Scott developing a new one, so you might get lucky and have two new Alien films to look forward to
Edit: Oh. My. God! "Gladiator vs. Aliens"!! I'd watch the hell out of that movie!
@LN78@FuriousMachine hey just watched Romulus a few nights ago. I enjoyed it. Of course I basically went in with the lowest expectations possible so it'd been hard to disappoint me but I came away fairly impressed all in all. I absolutely hated THAT line but other than that I thought it was an original enough remix of Alien, Aliens, and Resurrection.
And as just a horror movie it worked really well.

@zupertramp I enjoyed it, too. There were a not insignificant number of issues with it, most notably the completely unnecessary inclusion of Ash, but, agreed, it works as a horror movie with some nice, tense moments and characters that were worth rooting for.
@LN78 That is some next level cold hearted cynical cr@p, even for Disney. I see no reason why the android couldn't have been an original design, as far as I know, there's nothing in the lore that precludes one from existing?
@LN78 I didn't mind the pulse rifles, but the inclusion of that line was full cringe. Clearly executives and/or Scott meddling, wanting callbacks all over the place, whether they worked or not. Alvarez proved he could make a sequel honoring the original without filling it to the brim with heavy handed callbacks with his "Evil Dead", so here I suspect he caved to outside pressure.
@LN78@FuriousMachine Oh man I completely forgot about Ash. So yeah, more points off for that especially since the FX were just soo poorly done. A generic design would have been just fine.
But I'm confused as it's been awhile, where does this film run up against the timeline of the rest of the franchise?
EDIT: Still think this was better than covenant or prometheus personally. So idk, again, maybe it was the abysmally low expectations.

@zupertramp I'm not sure either, can't really remember anything of the sort, but it's been a while. Also, 100% agreed on Prometheus and Covenant; I'll take a 100 more Romulus than one more Prometheus or Covenant
hold on, where did it say they found him ON the Nostromo? It's very possible, I recall getting snacks from the kitchen and half listening in the beginning, but I was under the impression they found the alien terrorizing a micropanty-clad Ripley in space because she you know... blew him out into space.
EDIT: ah, okay... he's floating amongst the wreckage of the Nostromo. I still don't remember the Nostromo being mentioned at the aliens discovery but again, snacks.

@LN78 yeah, I have so many qualms with the leaps this video is making but it's not really that big a deal I guess. It certainly wasn't Alien of old but, eh, it was entertaining enough to stay awake through. Which has become increasingly rare for me.
Speaking of horrible sequels though... attempted Terminator Corona, I mean Dark Fate... my god what a stupid movie. Even my adoration for Mackenzie Davis couldn't motivate me to finish it.

Also this video assumes corporations are well-oiled machines running at peak efficiency and they really really are not. Not even on one planet, heck not even in the same building. Now imagine a corporation operating all over the infinite vastness of the universe. Lol, it would be like a greek tragedy every day.

PS Have you seen "Speak No Evil" starring Ms.Davis and James McAvoy? Really solid little thriller.
I have not. But I'll definitely check it out. Scoot McNairy as a bonus!

@LN78@zupertramp I can't speak to the McAvoy version, but the original Danish/Dutch movie was very good. Read that the American version was inferior so I never bothered with it, but I think I may reconsider and check it out, as many are singing its praises. What made the Danish/Dutch version so effective was the language barrier between the couples and how it played into the paranoia and confusion of the visiting couple. Not sure how the American version can attain a similar effect.
