@LN78 🤣 yeah, very strange casting of Craig in the role of a Kentucky-fried Poirot. He didn’t do it for me either tbh.

I wasn't blown away by Glass Onion either. Didn't think it was a bad film, but preferred the first film and it's cast of characters.

Watched that film My Old School, which was bloody brilliant. What a truly insane story, of a 32 year old man who somehow managed to go back to high school for an entire year in 1993. The fact it was made by one of his classmates and really embedded you in their experiences with the guy made it much more interesting than if some screenwriter had made a Sunday night drama about it. Funnily enough, the school involved was not too far from where I used to stay and most of the kids that I went to primary school with out that end went on to attend that high school!

Street Fighter II: the Animated Movie (Blu-Ray)

Solid adaptation of the game series.

Narrative isn't particularly engaging but does an admirable job setting up a reason for the central characters to be in conflict, and it does a great job making sure every playable character shows up at least once (usually making sure they're involved in a fight at that). I want to particularly point out the E. Honda/Dahlsim bout that briefly takes on a "side view" emulating the viewpoint of playing the game, and the Chun-Li/Vega encounter which has a genuinely tense buildup (and the shower scene is certainly a plus), and then is absolutely the most intense, exhilarating fight in the entire film. I will say that for some reason I kinda start to lose a bit of interest by the time the final confrontation with Bison rolls around, but ultimately I'd say it still sticks the landing.

@RogerRoger I thought The Northman was excellent. Not sure whether it is a Rog film though.

@RogerRoger Red October is a top film, probably my favourite Jack Ryan movie.

@LN78 Did you get any FromSoftware vibes from The Northman? It almost felt like I was watching Elden Ring: The Movie at times!

@LN78 yeah it’s a phenomenal movie that, watched it back when it released and probably due a rewatch if I’m honest. The only thing I would say is, it’s the kind of movie that you really need to be in a particular mood for… y’know, looking for something deep, real… and really deeply disturbing. Good job that I’m in the mood for that kind of thing on the reg 😉

@LN78 ‘dude’, we have such a similar taste in movies! Huge Coen bros fan here, with Miller’s Crossing being second only to The Big Lebowski in my fave Coen bros movies.

… and yep, I was really happy with the House of Dragons first season… I had my doubts after the final couple of Game of Thrones seasons but they pulled it out, for sure.

Back (partially at least) on The Lives of Others. I watched a great little low-fi/sci-fi show called Counterpart a year or so back. In many ways it’s nothing like The Lives of Others… but it kept cropping up in my mind during the two season run. Maybe it was the setting (Germany)… but it feels more than that, so may be worth a look if you haven’t seen it already. The always phenomenal JK Simmons is at the top of his game.

@LN78 from my recollection it was a conclusive finish to the show at the end of season 2. Maybe they were aware that they wouldn’t get another season, so the writers laid all their cards on the table perhaps. Real solid show fair play.

I did try giving Oz a go around 10 years ago, as I love pretty much everything HBO produce… but I think I’d left it too late. As someone new to the show, the age and production was tough to get past. I have a feeling that I would’ve loved it if I had been on board back when it released though. Still, there is a part of me that would like to give it another go sometime.

After our discussion a while back about Strange World and how we had no idea it actually existed, apparently it’s now the number 1 movie on Disney+. Just goes to show that poor marketing was the reason it bombed in the cinema, and not the quality of the movie.

Watched Boiling Point on Netflix. Really good film and shot in one continuous sequence.

Very good reflection of working in the hospitality industry as well. Angry chefs, overworked and underpaid kitchen staff (that was me), front of house waiters and waitresses who have a laugh, pocket the tips and the greedy/clueless manager.

I know front of house staff will be enraged at that description but that was my experience 😜

Finished watching Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Literally the perfect sequel! I enjoyed it much more than the first movie thanks to the inclusion of Tails and Knuckles. It just amazes me that these movies are so good considering how bad movies based on video games tend to be.

While I was watching the credits, I was thinking about how cool it would be if the next movie had a certain Sonic character in it. And they literally teased the exact same character I was thinking of moments later! I genuinely can't wait now for the next movie to come out.

@LN78 I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen Vampire’s Kiss, just googled it now and doesn’t ring a bell… which shocks the hell out of me! I might have to track this down.

@LN78 lol I did recognise the one from the IMDb page in fairness 🤣

@LN78 noted… it’s made me fancy returning to a couple of other 80’s vampire films actually. It brought Innocent Blood and Vamp to mind.

@LN78 I have… but not for what must be 30 years. I have a real soft spot for Tony Scott as it goes, I mean his films are more veneer than solid oak… but sometimes I’m in the mood for that tbh.

@LN78 yeah that would have to be his ‘best’ film, Days of Thunder is my guilty pleasure… and then most of his other films fall in between. Shout outs to Top Gun, Spy Game, Enemy of the State and Man on Fire.

@LN78 fair… I never used to like him much either but he won me over with Edge of Tomorrow and I’ve re-evaluated my hate 😅

@LN78 lol… I loved Maverick! Don’t be put off giving Edge of Tomorrow a go though, it might well be my favourite Groundhog Day-film (& and I’m yet to watch one that I didn’t enjoy).
