I watched Midnight in Paris. I’ve never been a big Woody Allen fan (for multiple reasons, but I really do just dislike his style) but I actually really quite enjoyed it. It’s sentimental while kinda swinging a massive sledgehammer at the very concept of nostalgia. I like that they don’t bother explaining how any of the fantastical elements actually work, it means it doesn’t get bogged down in the details. Owen Wilson also plays the Woody Allen-alike much better than Woody Allen ever did. Surprised myself that I enjoyed it.
I also watched The Producers cause it was on BBC One. I’ve seen it before but it really is great. Well, most of it is. The first 20 minutes aren’t great but everything from them starting to put Springtime for Hitler together to the end credits is comedic gold. It’s a very very fine line to get satire that spot-on but Mel Brooks always managed it without resorting to cheap caricatures. Not many movies from back then have truly aged well, especially comedies but that definitely has.
I went back to the 80's for my fri/sat and watched Mobile Suit Gundam 1-3 and also Fire and Ice. Movies i've always wanted to watch but never gotten round to.
Also recently watched Space Pirate Captain Harlock and The Nightingale.
@nessisonett I like Midnight in Paris and Vicky Cristina Barcelona, that's about it. Both have a similar vibe I think. Anyway, regarding Midnight in Paris, I mostly don't dig Marion Cotillard but she's kinda perfectly cast in this film.

@zupertramp Marion Cotillard’s one of those actresses who just picks her Hollywood roles relatively badly. You should watch Rust and Bone, both her and Matthias Schoenaerts are brilliant in it!
@nessisonett really thought you were referring to two different titles there so boy was I having trouble finding anything. anyway yeah, I'll keep that in mind. Add it to my ever growing queue.

My mum’s work are being paid to close for a week by Warner Bros to film on that street. Looks like it’s The Flash, which would make sense given The Batman filmed there too, so I’d assume Burton’s Gotham will also be Glasgow.
@TheFrenchiestFry Really really don’t like the Iron Man-lite direction for Peter. It’s getting ever closer to Parker Industries and they’re pretty much abandoning the friendly neighbourhood aspect.
@TheFrenchiestFry The suit was basically perfect in Homecoming. They could have kept it and I’d be fine with it, he had pretty much the same suit in the comics for 25 years.
Just watched the new Chris Pratt movie on Amazon The Tomorrow War. It was a half-decent action sci-fi blockbuster in fairness. The missus and I went in with low expectations and were very pleasantly surprised. There is some stand-out stupidity… particularly at the end but it didn’t really spoil it for us too much.
Second film of the day and it was ****ing brilliant! Pride a true story about solidarity between striking South Wales Miners and London Lesbian and Gay activists set in the 80’s. Funny and extremely poignant (particularly for a South Wales valley boy raised in the 80’s), great movie!
