@Octane
Yet another example of sexism and how toxic most of social media is. It really is disheartening to see.

@Voltan
I guess they won't be playing the upcoming Gollum game then. Although to be fair, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally I love a good mech game, I think they look awesome, so I'm not sure what that says about me..

The Abby thing was indeed awful. And the reaction to her having those impressive muscles was just crazy. I still remember that bloke on Twitter who said he was a doctor zooming in on her calender showing some workout days and proclaiming it would be impossible for her to have achieved that level of muscle mass.

It's just, what the hell is wrong with people? So bizzare. If the character had been a male, you know these same people would have said nothing.

@Voltan @LieutenantFatman @Jecht_Ultima Yeah, the discussion went straight back to Abby in the NLife PlayStation thread, and it seems people are forgetting she is also modelled after a real person.

And I don't even get it. Like, it's a video game, not a porn site. What are people using video games for these days? Am I missing something?

@Voltan The character from Returnal looks a bit like an older Ripley from Alien, so it's perfect match if you ask me!

@Octane
I suspect them knowing there is a real person there would make little difference to their awful behaviour.

@LieutenantFatman I know there is a real person that made the model but does that mean I have to like it? I really like the model of Aloy but I really dislike the one for Abby.

What is so wrong in disliking something without throwing brutal insults at it? I really hated Dina's model as well but it grew on me and I did not mind it that much now, Abby on the other hand I still dislike.

Not everything has be pink and perfectly positive in order to be right. Still I do not want any models to be changed. I even was quite chocked that they remake Sonic's model in the Movie after the crying.

"I dislike the model" =/= "I want it to be modeled after a pornstar". At least for me.

@Zuljaras
Comes across as rude and creepy to me, a bit like looking someone up and down and then giving them a score out of ten and telling them what they should change.

@Jecht_Ultima
Yeah, the desperate attempts at trying to justify the hate went to another level on that one.

@LieutenantFatman everyone has some criteria about beauty. Unfortunately most people like the so called "cookie-cutter" stereotype. Still every opinion is valid. The problems arise when they do not match but still it is funny.

Many people(males) that I played WoW with prefer to play as female characters. I ask why and they all say the same thing "if I am to play as someting all day at least I want it to have nice female butt to look at". I never understood that logic but as you can see people like eye candy and sexapeal.

Rudeness and creepiness are not a real issue as they are just unpleasant not harmful in any way unless people are waaaaay too sensitive

Whether characters are in one's opinion good looking according to someone's taste is just completely beside the point. I think what's more important is whether a character is unique looking or well animated.

When you or anyone says: "that's now how a woman looks" you're making a judgment about how a woman should look. Women can look any way (same goes for men too).

And it's fine to think a certain person is not appealing specifically to you, but it becomes problematic when you are coming from the viewpoint that any person should.

LieutenantFatman

@Kidfried
Agreed, well said.

@Zuljaras
I place high value on good manners and kindness. If that makes me way too sensitive then so be it, no doubt in some people's eyes that is true.

@Thrillho I have tickets for day 5 of the Eng v NZ match, so hopefully it'll continue till then, if not I'll see the whole match on Sky Sports.

@ItsATM Oh, if we're counting stuff we've played for the first time this year, then I've got some huge names to drop alongside Hitman III, including Astro's Playroom, Ico HD, inFAMOUS 2 and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The rest of the year looks quite quiet in terms of new releases, but there are a couple of remasters and delayed games that I'll be picking up, for sure.

I've heard good things about The Minish Cap. Glad it (finally) lived up to your expectations!

I think today can officially be classed Flying Mount-Gate. Quite ridiculous and I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about.

@JohnnyShoulder I think it stems from the fact they apparently said they wanted to do it in the first game but couldn’t due to the PS4 not being quite powerful enough. So the fact the sequel’s also on PS4 implies the same applies here too. The difference is that we always knew this would be a cross-gen game unlike, well, everything else.

Kidfried

@nessisonett But the fact that they wanted to do it in the first one, doesn't mean they also want to do it in the second. And playing Horizon right now I really think that decision was made very early on in development, because quite some parts of gameplay wouldn't make sense anymore if you were able to fly.

Anyway, the complainers are dumb anyway. They are arguing these games should be built from the ground up for PS5 hardware, even though development started way before dev kits were sent out and specs were finalised. How could Horizon 2 ever be built ground up for next-gen then?

@JohnnyShoulder The headline might change, but the story will always boil down to 'gamers make a fuss about nothing'

Must admit, I didn't realise it was seen as such a big deal to have flying mounts in. I wouldn't have thought it would be that game changing personally, unless they really focused on it and built a lot of the game around it.

@nessisonett Oh I've seen the documentary (some time ago mind so i didn't click initially), but I still don't get some of the reaction to it and that people are still latching to it as long as they have. Along with Green Screen Aloy, Fat Face Aloy, Woke Trash Aloy etc, it is just all a load of nonsense that doesn't really deserve that much attention.

@Kidfried I didn't know we had so many experienced developers as part of the community...

I was a bit disappointed when I heard the next God of War would be a cross gen game, but then I thought it is awesome for everyone that has not got a ps5 and to be able to continue the story. One of the reasons I'm a bit annoyed that it is very likely the next Outer Worlds will only be on Xbox, so I won't get a chance to experience that. Buy hey ho, I have dozens of other games that I can play instead.

Some called Sony anti consumer for the whole 'we believe in generations' (which I think has been slightly misconstrued if you read the full statement) thing, so they really can't win at the moment.

Personally I just think it is bad messaging on their part, which they have have been like even before Jim Ryan stepped up. That is something they do need to improve on as they do keep slipping up on that respect.

@JohnnyShoulder It’ll be interesting to see how well GoW plays on PS4 though.

Shadow of Mordor was a great early PS4 game that was also available on PS3 but removed the most unique feature in the Nemesis system! I doubt it’ll be that big a difference but load times between realms, better frame rate etc will make a huge difference if nothing else.

@Thrillho Miles Morales seemed to be OK though wasn't it? But I get your point, Dragon Age Inquisition I seem to remember being unplayable on PS3/X360.

I think the big difference this time around is that ps4 and ps5 are similar in architecture, so these things should be less problematic.

@JohnnyShoulder I don’t know, I only played MM on PS5

But yeah, I think the gap between gens isn’t as great and it’s more the fancy things like ray tracing, adaptive triggers, haptic feedback etc now (as well as those rapid load times of course). All things you won’t miss on PS4 if you’ve not experienced it!

I've been thinking, what are the chances of Ueda's new game showing up at E3?

Octane

Th3solution

@Octane I doubt it, but would love to be proven wrong. Speaking of development starting on one console and finishing on another, 😂 The Last Guardian is a poster child for that!
I’m a big fan of Ueda’s work, so I hope we see something. There’s been radio silence on the whole project since that cryptic image 2-3 years ago that it makes me wonder if it’s even still in development.

On the subject of cross gen games, I do think the ire of the masses is silly, but I think Cuberpunk 2077 just fueled the fire to the whole idea of making things work on both systems. But I think one of the commenters on the article make a good point that the issue there was largely one of CD Project project management being poor, rather than it being a hardware issue per se. Obviously first part Sony development is going to have a much better grip on PS4 functionality during development, rather than a third party developer whose chiefly building things with tunnel vision for PC.

But yeah, the only thing that could make things worse is if the next article we see is titled “Leaks confirm that Horizon Forbidden West now delayed due to Guerrilla working to make game run stable on base PS4” like the Cyberpunk fiasco was.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
