I'll be participating for the first time at some point over the next month as I'm now playing Quantum Break for the Pure Xbox Game Club, but I'm happy to as I want to play the PS5 version (more than the little bit I played it earlier in the year). I also have never played the DLC, so that'll be good to finally play that too.
One thing I will say is I hated the triggers in the game as I thought it just made it harder, which isn't needed in a few of the really intense battles. Otherwise I thought it looked and ran great, and I was fine with the haptic feedback. Maybe a bit overboard since it seemed to do it for every step, but still better than the triggers for me.

@ralphdibny I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on quantum break and whether you could go back after playing control? I've got gamepass and been interested in the mixed media idea
@R1spam we are playing QB over on the Pure Xbox game club so come join us if you like! If not then I'll give you a shout after I've played both games.
Ive played Alan Wake and Alan Wake American Nightmare so far. I decided to not go too far off the beaten track to get collectibles in American Nightmare just because it really slowed the first game down too much. I think I'm going to take the same approach in QB
Couldn't resist and had a quick go last night and wow Control is as good as I remember. Running in performance mode it's so smooth and fluid compared to when I played on base PS4. Also coming off the back of playing Alan Wake you can see how much improved the gameplay / shooting mechanics are for a Remedy game.
@Th3solution Agree - I like the use of the haptics and triggers. So far they seem quite subtle but will see what they are like when I get Surge as I'll be playing mostly on the TV speaker đ
@ralphdibny that sounds good mate, give me a tag there on pure xbox and even if I don't end up joining in with qb becauseI'm late to it, I'm sure I'll join in with another game.đit's definitely one of the benefits of subscriptions like gamepass in that everyone subscribed has access to that diverse a library
Ah man, I enjoyed the hell out of Control... I do plan on playing through the PS5 version myself at some point but now is a little soon for me. Enjoy guys.
@R1spam done! I don't think we've ever picked a game that's not on game pass over there so it's quite good to have a common pool of games to choose from!
Better late than neverâŚ. I finished off Resident Evil 3 Remake today. What a great game! I liked it almost as much as RE2 Remake. A lot of people complained about the length being too short, but I was fine with it. My playtime was close to 7 hours and I ended with a C ranking, so I was taking my time on this first run. Itâs a game I wouldnât mind replaying on harder difficulty, but Iâm going to move on for now. Still enjoyed it immensely and am sad to have it over. Jill and Carlos were great characters and the boss fights with Nemesis were exhilarating! The game was more action-y than RE2, and less puzzles, but I enjoyed the different settings more than I thought I would. Iâll play RE4 after a while. Going to move on to some non-horror for now.
I hope everyone is enjoying Control!

@Th3solution I know it's crazy, but I think I actually ended up liking Resident Evil 3 Remake more than 2. I highly enjoyed 2, but I can't deny that I really enjoyed the more action oriented focus.
I'll move on to Control sooner or later. Still working through Quantum Break, but this would be my 3rd playthrough of Control anyways.

@KilloWertz Yeah, I liked the constant threat of Nemesis and really enjoyed the characters personalities.
Supposedly RE4 is even more action-oriented, and then it just goes full-on third person shooter in RE5 and RE6, I hear. Have you played the others? RE4 is apparently the high point of the series so Iâm excited to play it. Not sure if Iâll wait until next Halloween or not. đ
Edit: I wouldnât mind a second go at Control either, but it was just a couple months ago when I platinumâd it and I have a ton of other games to experience.
I was going to start Control tonight but I didn't have it downloaded đ. I finished Quantum Break last night!
I've set it to download but I probably won't get to start it now until Thursday which is a bit of a shame. I went to kick off the DLC too but weirdly it said that it was already installed :S
@ralphdibny I'm the other way round, I'm downloading quantum break just now and will probably
play through control before I start it đ. I've made a decent start on control and it's dripping in style! I'm a few missions in already but don't want to post anything until folks get a chance to start. For those who've played the game before, any suggestions about targets etc? Seems like main missions take about 90ish minutes
@R1spam I think I played roughly a mission a night when I played Control! Granted that was during my Christmas break though so people with more on would probably aim for a main mission every few days, some take longer than others though!
@R1spam The random targets and Alerts that pop up can largely be ignored unless you want to grind or are just enjoying the combat. They are not essential. I did a few of those from time to time when the target popped up nearby or close to a fast travel point. Otherwise, itâs probably better to stick with the actual missions. I did all the side missions and most of them are worth it in my opinion. Of course I loved the game and platinumâd it, so if youâre not loving it then maybe you can skip side missions but I recommend doing them.
The Board Countermeasures are useful and will need to be done for some of the trophies. However, if you donât like any of the ones offered, you can accept one and then immediately discard it and the game will randomly generate another one. Some of them are really hard to complete because it will tell you to, say, kill a certain rare enemy with a certain gun form or in a certain way and itâs just a pain and will take forever to find one of those enemies. I usually accepted the board countermeasures that would be easy to come by in the natural course of playing through the missions. But you will need to do a certain number of them for a trophy, if memory serves and itâs best to be gradually doing them early on and throughout the story in a natural way so as to avoid a grind at the end. You also get decent rewards sometimes for completing them.
As far as Expeditions, when you get that far there will be a place you can go to engage in optional âExpeditionsâ. I tried some of those but they are pretty tough and not linked to any trophies and are completely optional, if I recall correctly. I spent a decent amount of time working on them, but really itâs not essential so you can ignore those too and go back to them later if you want. With the main game and all side quests and the two DLCâs, youâll have plenty to keep you busy.
Edit: Sorry, I checked and I forgot there is a trophy for doing Alerts. A bronze for doing 1 Alert and a silver for doing 5 Alerts. I forgot about that. Itâs fairly easy to knock out 5 of them without too much effort in the course of the game.
@R1spam Iâve been making some good progress. Having already played it through once I had a good idea of what to expect but things seem to be coming round faster than I thought they would. Iâve been largely ignoring the optional missions for now so perhaps thatâs got something to do with it.
They style of the game never fails to impress though. There were a few areas I went into tonight that properly mess with your mind. The map is also making my head hurt but not in a good way.
@render Yeah, you bring up a couple good points â
The audio especially is really disturbing in some parts. The chanting and nonsensical rambling is just so creepy. The whole thing does kinda mess with your mind.
And secondly, the map. Of course you know this but PSA to everyone whose playing for the first time â the map might make you more confused. You can try to use it but donât expect it to be all that clear to help you know where to go. Itâs easier to follow the in-game signs throughout The Oldest House. They will point you which way to go to get from one department to the next, just like youâre really in a big office building.
âWe cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.â
@Th3solution The map legitimately meant I got lost for several hours. Itâs just objectively dreadful and a shame given how good a lot of the game is!
I never had many problems with the map but I think I was expecting much worse after it was such a complaint of the game (and after the mess of the map in Jedi: Fallen Order too).
There are enough signs around to help guide you though.
