@Jimmer-jammer Demons Souls is next on my list after MGS2 as it goes. Glad you’re enjoying it as much as you are… can’t wait to try it for myself.

… and yeah we should have everything sorted in regards to the new house relatively soon. We’re having my family and my partners family over for Christmas (everyone’s staying the night too) so we’ve had to make sure we’ve ordered a big enough table and enough beds and seating and such. Now we just need to order the TV unit, office furniture and gym equipment. Shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

@Kidfried sounds right up my street! I've seen snippets of gameplay and it really does look superb.

@Kidfried Makes me want to really try Hades. After all those hours in Returnal, I don’t think I want to do another Rogue-ish game just yet though.

Do you think you’ll ever try to complete Returnal? If memory serves, you were stalled on Biome 4 last I heard.

@Jimmer-jammer Thank you mate.

So I’ve played through the PS3 version twice (edit. actually thrice)… and actually picked up the remake on its day of release, but you know how those backlogs get right. Also, as souls-likes are my absolute favourite genre, I limit myself to 2 per year so I never run out. This year was Ashen and Demons Souls, next year will be Elden Ring and Nioh 2 etc. I could go on until 2026 but I won’t bore you… needless to say, if for some reason we stopped getting Souls-likes I’d be okay for around half a decade 😅

@Jimmer-jammer yeah, I’m also a touch concerned that I might be playing it a bit too close to Elden Ring too… I brought it forward a month as a result actually. It still could end up affecting my experience with ER but I’ve gotta play it at some point so it might as well be now… if anything, maybe I’ll slide ER back a month or two if I think it’ll maximise my enjoyment. Gonna play it on PS4 first as there’ll probably be some online trophies and I reckon it’s more likely that the PS5 online experience will thrive longer than the PS4 one… I’ll play the PS5 version in 2023 then.

Was playing PGA 2k21 and enjoying it for the most part, but just deleted it. Career mode having to be online killed it for me. At least twice a round it would freeze trying to connect. My Internet is fine, but for some reason on this game it would buffer or disconnect. Terrible decision to make it online only. No wonder it went psplus.

@Kidfried Sounds nice. Definitely will keep it on the radar then. I have a couple games going atm but it sounds like it can settle in nicely alongside something else easily.

@Th3solution - I vouch for Hades massively as well... and the comments from @Kidfried are spot on.

I travel quite frequently for work, and usually try to take my Switch on business trips etc. Had Hades in my backlog and wasn't really 'feeling it' based on reviews, concerned it might just be Indie-hype etc.

But honestly the hype is well justified, and it is a truly excellent game.... Even though you will die frequently, particularly on early runs, there is a tremendous sense of progression with each try - and many currencies / skills / accessories carry over. The story and narrative is very clever also, with the voice acting quite impressive too.

Runs typically last around 20-30 mins max, and the build potential is a nice balance of choice vs RNG. Even if RNG is slightly against you, a decent build is usually still attainable if you make good choices regarding boons/skills offered up.

I ploughed about 60 hours into this on Switch, and will probably continue to drop in and out of it (unless Metroid Dread takes over)

Highly recommended! Probably as 'mainstream' an Indie/roguelite/like as you will find, but IMO the game is actually all the better for appealing to a mass audience.

Really cool, fun, and reasonably priced too

I've been on the fence with Hades too @Th3solution, but thanks too @CJD87 and @Kidfried glowing reccomendations, I think that will be my next game after Kena.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

@Voltan So, other than the occasional "boss" battle being a pain, I think I finally found something that is a legit flaw in Scarlet Nexus... The bond leveling, especially with your team. Tons of people were having issues with the team bond level, me included given that I have given everybody presents during every standby phase.

That is really poorly done, as you shouldn't have to just spam a bunch of gifts just to get it to rise. It should be a natural thing during each standby phase as long as you give them a present with a heart and do their bond episodes, but nope, you have to flood them with gifts at some point at least once to actually get it to progress. One actual legit thing I read was you also have to give them each their plug-ins to unlock their slots, which is fine if everything else wasn't so flawed with the bonding system.

Still highly enjoying the game (I'm around Phase 8 now I believe). Just venting about something I found to be very flawed with the game.

@KilloWertz I just finished Yuito’s phase 9 last night so I guess I’m a couple hours ahead of you.
I didn’t mind the gifts thing personally. Maybe I could’ve had the bonds go to an even higher level if I tried giving some of the gifts multiple times but I don’t feel underpowered or anything.
A couple times I would revisit some locations during the standby phase specifically to find components I could exchange for new gifts at the shop but that’s ok with me

@Voltan If you don't care about the achievements/trophies for bonding, then that makes sense. More or less just pointing out a flaw in the game that could have been easily corrected I would think instead of people basically jumping through hoops to get something done that should be simple.

@KilloWertz I haven’t decided if I care about trophies for this one yet

Finished FF7R last night. Really enjoyed the game, the combat really did grow on me and I was so invested. Great characters, voice acting and world building.

I plan on playing through the original, not sure when but the game has made me want to do it. Will be playing through the Yuffie DLC next.

The final sequence where you fight Sephiroth and the Fire/Ice/Thunder beings was just pure "I have no idea what's going on". But I know enough to know that this game is some sort of alternate universe. Which is interesting as it now means the story is different. Aerith surviving was the biggest shock for me.

@Iver That’s the first impressions I’ve seen on here of HLL. I was wondering about it. It’s not my bag, but if there is enough praise then I’m not opposed to trying it. I try to keep an open mind.

@NedStarksGhost Awesome. I was finally able to get to Chapter 10 after a couple weeks of being stalled. That Corneo mansion bit was … unexpected. 😂 The game just keeps dropping wacky moments one after another.

Glad you like it enough to play the Yuffie Intermisson and even the original PS1 game. I haven’t bought the DLC yet, but I was thinking I probably will, even though I’m not usually a DLC-guy.

I spent more time than I expected grinding for some items to progress my character bonds but now I’m starting the final (I think) chapter of Scarlet Nexus. It’s a good game

@KilloWertz I also like the SAS benefits that make my life easier
But yeah, I was kinda close anyway so I went for it. There are still some that I didn’t bother with but maybe I’ll get them on the 2nd playthrough (Kasane’s story)

Thrillho

@NedStarksGhost Glad to hear you enjoyed FF7R. I’m currently on my third run of the game having played it on normal and hard on PS4. It’s proving pretty easy this time as I’m so overpowered but it’s mainly been to relay the story and try the game on the new console.

I still have the DLC to try so hopefully I can get used to having to play “properly” without ridiculously strong materia etc

Very much looking forward to seeing what they’ve done with the Fort Condor mini game too..
